Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

You're right, I know don't anything about the paper beyond their reporting on this story.
Besides, this wasn't a story to garner pity for drug addicts and pushers...it's low-priority.
That's sad, pathetic really. I'll take that as solid evidence that they exclusively endorse Democrats in elections. They must hate men like Wheeler.
If they called the police for every case like that...!
Remember where this is. It's not like he was the only one wandering around Wilmington that night.
He was delayed in NYC for two days. No charger? Phone goes dead placed in briefcase. If he made it into the house wouldn't one of the first thing he do is place the phone on a charger? He was “addicted” to communicating with friends on it.
Therefore, I don't think he had that opportunity. If hit on head by kitchen sink, he'd bleed. Where all the boards taken out because of blood splatter?
Somebody waiting for him in the house?
Look at Saucy 815 comment on the second link you provided. It wasn’t just any law firm, dealt with his very expertise.
A haunting picture.
Look at the color of the mud. Compare it to mud in picture of his house, the house across the way, the dump sights.
FBI will have the expertise to match up where the mud came from.
This is a very good video, it’s got the “bomb” burn marks in the Marini house, and the Wheeler kitchen floor and boot marks.

Every aspect of this story has a question mark.. .
If he did set off smoke bombs or was, somehow, instrumental; he may have been 'waiting it out' to see response to what he may have intended as a harmless message. Or a 'harmless' venting. Seems a 'huge step' to threaten property; but emotions can run high; get 'fired up' and emotional flames, easily fanned if already stressed,tired and angry! It can build with every new nail, board and brick.
( Have to say; compared to Wheeler's house; looks like a fricken hotel going up 'across the street.) Have observed personally, just how 'crazy' one can become over property boundaries not being observed; or neighborhood protocols or worse, with what just seems a 'singular and selfish' choice by a seemingly, thoughtless neighbor . Have experienced it actually/grrrrr/LOL.
OTOH. . .not ruling out at all; outside forces here, creating the most judgmental of circumstances against Wheeler. We know 'something' happened to him! Does seem like they could find the boots that match this tread, somewhere, NO? Would boots be carefully disposed of and not tread marks removed? Did Wheeler simply get 'crazy' realizing just how stupid was his behavior? And while muddling around; meet a bad circumstance. OR; something else?
Meantime; any 'other' taxi drivers notice Wheeler; as did 'this' one; who happened to have his number in Wheeler's phone?
Have they called psychic? If not, maybe they should; unless, this story has a common thread; say with the frozen birds dropping from sky story/sigh. . .(USDA now claiming they used poison.)
Am wondering if they are 'really' wanting to get to bottom of this; and if they are; 'will they'. Would not be surprised that this time, next year; we know little more. But hey, 'been wrong'. . .and this time, would like to be wrong.
One more; do we know that the ‘tread’ marks on floor, were not from those removing floor boards? Cannot remember what I read; and too late right now, to go back through it all!
People made calls to John on the 29th which he never answered but we don't know what TIME they were made.
IF they were made to the phone found on the 28th in the neighbors house along with the incendiary devices, then the calls occurred while THAT cell phone was in the possession of the police.
OR...was the phone really found when the police ripped up John's home. (Remember the warrants).
My daughter has a blackberry and a work phone. Two totally different units. And they have old phones in the drawer.
A friend of John's said he was a Blackberry fanatic....I think John's BLACKBERRY was stolen with his briefcase and the phone the cops have is a second old phone or a second line.
Why did the cops leak the cell phone info but not what he was wearing when he was found.
Where did John get the hoodie??
If the cops picked up the phone when called for the rodent bombs, they didn't have a warrant...Does that make the phone inadmissable as evidence in John's murder??
It looks like the dishwasher might have been a new installation. Notice the uneven bottom. I think that's a can of pop and a rag on the counter.
I'm now thinking that a workman was fixing something...which could also account for the loud TV or stereo which the neighbor said was unusual.

Worker might also be one of neighbor's workman....hence the "misplaced" phone...Maybe John gave the worker the phone..."Call me if there's an emergency"....Maybe that's why John was staying up in Wilmington...Because there was a worker at HIS house.
Finally, I think I might have hit a button that might make some sense of John moving about...
That also explains the loud music/TV that the neighbor complained about.

Somewhere on the thread there is a comment that the FBI lab is about two months behind. They will solve this crime. Too much evidence has been left behind.
John left on the 24th. Gave worker a key and a cell phone. Jack had already shut off the water????
Worker starts either immediately or starts on the 25th or 26th...John returns on the 29th and worker is not done and water is still off.
John gets papers for another meeting, loads his briefcase and walks approx 2000 feet to the Plaza on an errand. (Maybe a Post Office?) He calls for a cab..It doesn't show. He goes into pharmacy (Change of shift time-6 PM) and asks for a ride. Pharmacist offers to call a cab. Jack walks out...he had already tried that...Jack is going to walk or hitch...Between 6 and 6:40, he gets robbed.
The weather in New Castle (and Wilmington) from the 24th to the 31st says "Rain or melted snow reported during the day".
The worker took the phone to the Marini site where he was also working.
Another thought: It may be that rodents had gotten into John's house, too. It's just that time of year.
So did Jack have a water problem or a rodent problem or both??
So did LE rip up the floor or the worker??
The Route 15 goes right past there.
Also, if he took the Route 15 after the Pharmacy, it goes right past the DoubleTree and the courts. Perhaps he got off a bus at the wrong place, not walked to the wrong place.
