Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

Since we are speculating and have no real idea what happened, how about tossing around a new possibility.
John left his car at the garage closest to last meeting he had(Dec. 13). He had other business that day, and for days to come, so he just left it for a couple of days to keep from having to mess with it.
One of the meetings he had scheduled was between Dec. 24-26. It is a planned secret meeting. He gets the neighbors to drive him to the station, but of course does not tell them where he is actually going. They leave, and he instead goes in a different direction. It is expected to be a two day meeting, so he brings a change of clothes. Meeting does not go well, measures are taken and he is then delivered back to a “logical location” where he stumbles around for a while before it is discovered that he is “not dead yet”.
Wife makes no public statement because if it is known that he never came to New York then it would be difficult to trace things.
The messages received by him during this time are described to be different from his usual tone, more brief in nature and less jovial. Further, one message has attached to it, the phrase, “onward and upward”. This has meaning, but what? Who had control of his phone if he didn’t?
Could he have circled back to his house for this meeting, having established a cover story with the neighbors? Then he is off’d (the killer thinks) his phone is deposited in the under-construction house, he is taken across town and dumped, but then he’s not dead!
The pharmacist did not want to drive him? Why? Did he fear getting involved with him? Did the pharmacist give him the money he said he had after that? Was the pharmacist a connection?
This law office that specializes in intellectual property... what was John working on? A computer game? A new weapon?
I just think it is interesting to approach this from a different perspective to see what scenarios develop.
Did he have “something” on the family across the street or information on the authorities in the community in that brief case? He didn't feel comfortable in calling the police. Why didn't he trust them?
Just out of curiosity, is the Federal court system for Delaware in Philadelphia? It may be the reason he wanted to go there. Material on the city authorities where he lived...who allowed the destruction of a historic home, trees etc without hearing...Money under the table? Bribery etc.

Jack was a rarity in this world: a man of passion, intelligence, caring and consideration for others. My 14-year-old daughter Chloe, recalled Jack as “the kind man who always gave us those great chocolates for Christmas.” And then she cried. This is something I am finding it difficult to do. Not because I do not love Jack, but I cannot bring myself to put him into the realm of remembering a great man. That is why I am writing this note. To confront the reality of a loss so great is simply beyond me at the moment.
Am certain Arlington or a similar location near the wall will be his final resting place...That may be the reason it’s taking some time. Making appropriate arrangements to honor a hero.
THe company he and his wife owned was out of Cambodia....silk IIRC. She was traveling. At their age doubt if people would suspect the company being a front for “the company”

Notice in the link gave you above neighbors had moved in just seven months ago....Hmmm, If he came in late and the key was missing, he wouldn’t have knock on their door for help. Didn’t know them enough to give them a key although others have noted he gave keys to many.

WHEELER, NOW TAGGED AS “NUTTY LOSER VIETNAM VET…”

John Wheeler III was pulled out of the back of a garbage truck two weeks ago, maybe cut into pieces, maybe burned alive, maybe tortured, maybe shot, nobody is telling us. However, the stories are now hitting, Wheeler suffered from demons, nightmares from his service in Vietnam. This is bull.
John Wheeler, a man whose Washington resume is unmatched, West Point, Yale Law, CFR (Council on Foreign Relations), SEC (Security and Exchange Commission,) expert on everything from financial crime, to cyber warfare, chemical weapons, nobody knew what this man knew, nobody had his expertise, his access. No man in Washington had more secrets in his head than John Wheeler.
What John Wheeler was not, however, was a Vietnam veteran suffering from PTSD or similar combat related problems. Wheeler’s military service was administrative. He served in highly secure areas and lived under circumstances not unlike any military base near Washington DC. His job, as with the vast majority of others that served in Vietnam in administrative and support positions, was what he was assigned to. Some people were sent into combat and some were not. I served in combat in Vietnam and strongly suspect that I was negatively impacted by this as were all those who served with me. Most, those who survived, have suffered from this service in a catastrophic manner.
Wheeler’s murder is not going to be allowed to be shoved under a rug because of Vietnam. There are enough of us around who have lived through decades of seeing veterans attacked, not just the media, the movies, the TV shows, but by congress. The number of American politicians who have made an honest effort to support soldiers, veterans, confront the real betrayal of those who really protect America is less than 5 out of well over 500.
Making John Wheeler look like another “loser vet” as an excuse for what is now clearly a massive government cover-up of his murder isn’t going to be allowed. His veteran status isn’t going to be used as an excuse, it is going to be used as a reason to catch his killers.
To do this, first we want to know why nothing has been done? Is there an FBI task force assigned to investigate? Have we proven his death a common street crime? With the lying, the secrecy, the utter and total corruption we have seen in Washington, the veterans of the United States aren’t ready to sit this one out. Too many of us have died quietly, Agent Orange, Gulf War Illness, abuse and neglect.
Lets look at Wheeler for a minute. I have worked in Washington, politics, defense, not at his level and never with his expertise, but I know a little about his life. This was a brilliant man, tireless, dedicated and honest as hell. He didn’t serve in combat but never forgot those who did. Service isn’t all about TV show “shoot-em-ups.” Service and sacrifice isn’t all Vietnam. Wheeler spent his life somewhere far worse than Vietnam, around dangers, around enemies far worse than I ever saw walking the rice paddies of Southeast Asia.
John Wheeler served in hell, he worked in Washington DC. This is what killed him, maybe a government conspiracy, well, very probably that. If you get knocked in the head for your wallet, they don’t try to hide your body, not in such a way as to make a public statement. The body of a prominent defense expert, one of the top lawyers of the Security and Exchange Commission, Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force, specialist in every covert defense technology known, isn’t tossed into a garbage truck without there being a message of some kind.
Wheeler, to me, is “one of us,” a Vietnam veteran. We are not all the same, our politics, our jobs, our health, our outlook on life. When you put us together, we are all brothers, and John Wheeler exemplified that with a life spent in the sewer of back stabbing cowards and liars that make up our military, government and financial community at the highest level. He was always “one of us.”

Apparently he was traveling freely between Wilmington and New Castle on the 29th. Note the shoe was damaged...that's why he was carrying it. AND briefcase is referred to as suitcase.

Dec. 29 (Wednesday), morning - Spotted walking in downtown Wilmington by members of public
3.30 - Spotted by passerby in downtown Wilmington.
6.00 pm - Goes into Happy Harry's New Castle pharmacy on Del. 9; asks pharmacist for ride to Wilmington train station (not home in Old New Castle, located about half mile away); pharmacist offers to call cab; declines offer and leaves.
6.40 pm - Enters Colonial parking garage adjacent to New Castle County Courthouse in Wilmington, where noticed by several employees searching for car and place to get warm; seen on surveillance video shuffling back and forth, apparently confused and disoriented; carries damaged right tasseled burgundy loafer; has no overcoat even though day snowy; wearing dark suit and dress shirt but no tie; walking with slight limp; jacket has dirt on sleeve and trousers dirty round knees; claims to have been attacked and robbed of suitcase; leaves about 25 minutes later; police uncertain where goes once leaves parking garage.

That on Christmas Eve, Robert Dill, a neighbor in New Castle, drove John from New Castle to the Amtrak Station in Wilmington. It's only 6 miles, a tem minute drive.
From there, John (Jack) went to NYC to bring his wife a Christmas present. On the 25h, he emailed a friend..."I'm stuck in NY. On the 27th, he emailed..."I'm still stuck in NY."
He made his Mitre meeting in DC on the 28th. After the meeting, he headed back to Wilmington and eventually got home.,P>Are you writing this all down?? :-)
