Wilmington, Delaware (CNN) -- Police have found homicide victim John Wheeler's cell phone, according to a taxi driver who was interviewed by investigators this week.
Athel Scott told CNN National Correspondent Susan Candiotti that police told him they found the cab driver's number in the phone of Wheeler, the former Pentagon official who was found dead in a Delaware landfill. He said investigators wanted to know how his number got there. Scott... says he told the police he didn't have any idea.
"I never got a call from the man. I don't know him... He's never been in my cab. I don't know how my number got in his cellphone," Scott says he told police...

I’ve also been thinking about the ‘assault’ part of the ME report. If he had just been hit on the head, they would have just said blunt force trauma. But, the assault makes me think he was also beaten.......they can tell if the brusing etc. was pre or post mortem.
Which puts me back into thinking this was a payback of some sort. Street people aren’t going to go to that extreme for whatever he had left which was either $120.00 or nothing based on varied conflicting reports.
Had to take at least two people to lift him into the dumpster. Why bother hiding the body? There may be something, somewhere linking back to the original crime.
Personally, I don't think he was in one of the 10 dumpsters.
Now that we know there's no blood, I think it may have been an entirely different scenario and he got pushed out of the front seat of one of the incoming trucks unto the pile in the landfill. These spotters are NOT near the trucks.
Why dump the body???? because John was at or near the perp's house!! There was no choice.
Remember, John escaped with his life the first time. But he knew something and didn't want the cops right now.
And despite the supposed bickering between the ME and cops...I think that's a lot of cr**, too.

The perps were pretty sure they were going to get away with this. They must have sh** when the body was found in the landfill.
I'd say there has to be 3 people involved. And in the world of gangs, there are probably 20 more who know. Bet they even bragged "They'll never find the body" to a whole bunch of low lifes.

Have been doing research on the Mob and beating. (keep googling) It is a common practice. Sometimes done to those who owe money, or have a gambling dept. Sometimes to teach a lesson that they are in charge/or to someone who has crossed someone in the family. Often beaten to an “inch of their life”. Sometimes beaten to death to send a message to others.
Interesting, but so far have not quite found a tie in.
The usual was execution and the body was easily found. It's called a lesson.

Agree that he was in the throes of knowing his life was in danger and he was being pursued; so he was trying to work out an escape. The wandering back and forth in the hall of the parking garage did not look so much disoriented to me as anxious that he would be spotted by his pursuers, and madly trying to figure what to do next — especially when he went to the door and looked out, then returned and disappeared into the elevator alcove.

Reading the article it seems the family feels out of the loop. “The authorities are not sharing information....”

This needs to go public. Notice the senators from DE and one from NV who stopped action to clear this mess up. Now that they’ve arrested a few, take down the DC insiders that protect the criminals. Follow the $$$ who is getting contributions to their campaign funds?

I've been trying to catch up on the info about this case and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anything new. Maybe that's why the family is putting up the reward. Sounds like the police aren't getting new tips.
How cruel it was for the family to have found out the cause of death from the media. Just unbelievable.
