Kristof Wants Government To Improve Our Souls Via Income Redistribution
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelsteinn

You might have thought that Mike Bloomberg—with his trans fat and smokes snatching—was the epitome of nanny staters. But the Big Apple mayor's got nothing on another New Yorker--Nicholas Kristof.

In his New York Times column of today, Equality, A True Soul Food, Kristof preaches the urgent need for income redistribution as a means of . . . improving our souls.

According to Kristof, "the toll of our stunning inequality is not just economic but also is a melancholy of the soul." And hey: what says soul improvement more than . . . raising taxes?!

More excerpts and analysis after the break.

Nicholas Kristof should sell his home/condo, liquidate his assets, drain his savings/stock options, pull his kids out of high priced colleges/their savings account and take the lead to spread his wealth. Show us a real humanitarian example, pictures and self-righteous columns about your "work" in Africa which is mired in dictatorships and collectivism, just makes you look like a "useful idiot".

Unless Kristof and is family lives in the misery he wishes to pimp out to the masses, a hypocrite he shall be.

If he thinks this would be good for anyone’s soul, then he has none to begin with.

The USSR must have been the most soul-uplifted bunch of holy rollers in history taking redistribution to its illogical end.

Perhaps Mr. Kristof could give away all of his money and go work as hired help on a farm like all the other welfare queens should be doing. He might then appreciate the value of labor and experience the honor of producing something.

Did I say “honor?” I thought that word was all but banned in the United States circa 2012.

Worship of the Government is not food for the SOUL.

What a brainless heretic.

We practice wealth redistribution every Sunday morning at our church.

“Nicholas Kristof should sell his home/condo, liquidate his assets, drain his savings/stock options, pull his kids out of high priced colleges/their savings account and take the lead to spread his wealth.”

Exactly. It's also very interesting that people like Kristof never ask for redistribution of established wealth, but instead are going after ‘income’. So rich liberals who have tons socked away, and who don't depend on an ‘income’, like John Kerry, are unaffected.

Except that self-pity and envy are childish emotions that should not be indulged. We were given the 10th Commandment for a reason.
Besides, we simply cannot be responsible for other people’s feelings. It is the worst form of slavery.

You don’t understand. The true goal is not to have everybody equal in results, but to have a tiny elite, with the liberals being it, lording over vast swathes of desperately poor serfs.

Don’t make the mistake of granting them “good intentions”

Question I asked of my “Christian” lefty ex-girlfriend, shortly before she broke up with me: “According to which ‘God’ is stealing from your fellow man not a sin?”

I spent seven long months working in Communist China in the 70s. Let me tell you, if you want to see “melancholy of the soul,” go live in a totalitarian regime where the government controls not only your income and its redistribution, but every single aspect of your life.

Government oppression and control is the root cause of “melancholy of the soul.” Freedom and liberty give your life meaning and provide uplifting joy and optimism.

As they say, “liberalism is a mental disorder.”

As soon as he gives away every penny he has and gets rid of all his property an takes a lifetime vow to live a life of poverty and destitution I may consider it. The left never leads by example, they want others to make sacrifices. How can I take them seriously when they are not the ones to show others by example?

The fundamental premise of the left is that they know what is best.

Therefore, it is they who should be rewarded. And it is you who should be made to conform with their vision.

Inside every leftist is a little totalitarian waiting to get out and order you around.
