WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama says FIFA made the "wrong decision" in awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar over the United States.
The U.S. Soccer Federation spent millions of dollars on its bid. Former President Bill Clinton was highly involved in the process and participated in the closing presentation.

FIFA to Obama: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!! Fool!
They “acted stupidly”
That’s exactly the phrase Obama used against the police when they arrested that Professor from where was it, Harvard, when a woman called thinking the black guy was breaking into what turned out to be his own house, and then the Prof made a big scene about it and got arrested. It ended up with the “beer summit”. Obama blamed the police for doing their job, and said they acted “stupidly”. Must be one of his pet phrases.
300 million Americans have to be scanned or groped if they want to travel by air, so as not to offend Muslims with "profiling," and Obama negates any benefit from that by his stupid comments.
Not that I really think that Americans kowtowing to the TSA wins us any favor among Muslims.
It's worth noting that the last two Winter Olympics were held in places that really aren't ideal for a lot of winter sports. I understand Turin, Italy has pretty temperate winters and is just as likely to get rain in the winter as snow. And Vancouver, despite being so far north, is actually the most mild of major Canadian cities in the winter. Even in the mountain ski resorts the snow tends to be wet and heavy, and isn't as good for skiing as the areas in the interior of British Columbia.
Not like Soccer...my daughter happened to love this game and was even on a varsity soccer college team...it still doesn’t change the fact most Americans do not even have a clue what this game is all about.
When FC Barcelona's passing game is clicking, it is something to watch.
I also get tired of the anti-soccer drivel I read on this site. No one has to like soccer, but it’s a legitimate sport with a worldwide following, including millions in the US. Many people find baseball boring, NASCAR boring, football stupid, and so forth. To each his own.
One curious feature of soccer is that it's probably the only sport I can think of that actually gets less exciting to watch as the age of the participants increases from childhood to adulthood. At its highest level, a well-played soccer game is likely to end in a 0-0 tie.
Average high temperature in Qatar in June is 106F and July, 115F. Of course, it cools to a balmy mid-80s in the middle of the night.
Qatar says they will use cooling technologies to drop the temperature IN THE WHOLE STADIUM by 35F degrees, so you know it's going to be a low-carbon-footprint event.
There is a professional soccer league in the USA. In Seattle, they draw crowds between 25,000 and 35,000 on a regular basis, and they play in Qwest Field, the Seahawks stadium. It is not a fringe sport.
Since we already have capable stadiums and transportation systems in various cities, hosting the World Cup finals would likely bring in billions of net dollars. Kind of helps with the deficit.
Illegal aliens are playing it by the tens of thousands, children of liberal anti-football parents are playing it by the tens of thousands. You’re right. It isn’t an American game.
As an isolated game, yes a 0-0 game is boring, but in the context, of a say an EPL season, it matters since you need all the points you can get. I really wish the MLS would chuck the playoff format and make it a straight table with the champion being the team with the most points at the end of the season. What makes it work for the EPL is that what really matters is not necessarily winning the title, but finishing in the top four, since that makes you eligible for the Champions League. Also some of the most interesting matches at the end of a season are games between teams near the bottom as they fight to avoid relegation.
This is excellent on so many levels.
1. I am happy Obama got faced. Everyone should at least once, reject Obama. It feels good. Makes you want to say No to him all the time.
2. Soccer is not an American game anyway. Nobody cares here, nobody gives two rips whether some euro “sport” doesn’t play here. We aren’t all boring pussies just running up and down a field for 40 minutes before an attempt to score is made. I will give them that they are good runners, they do run a lot. Running a lot in soccer is boring however. Because that is what mostly happens.
3. The euros would rip us for not celebrating and being into it the way they are. We do not get wasted and start riots in the stadiums over a soccer call. We do not have collapsing stadiums that crush die hard fans to death. We don’t have riots in the cities of tens of thousands of people, lots of them foreign, over a stupid game of soccer. We don’t essentially shut a city down for a day or two over it. So obviously we would be a disappointing place to hold it.
4. Qatar makes more sense to hold a soccer game. The muslims are closer to europe, they are in the process of taking over europe by birthrates and sharia communities. They have a more inherent tendency to be violent, even without all the drinking-fueled european idiot violence. Perhaps the europeans may even admire the muslims’ violence because it requires NO alcohol to get them going, it’s always just under the surface. Takes very little to get them to use it. So Qatar probably is a better fit. Instead of beating your wife for showing part of an ankle, go to the soccer game and pick a tema, then beat up anyone who looks like they want the other side to win.
Awesome!
