Just heard on the Charlie Brennan show that Steelman will run.
Lots of people will cross over in the primary for the express purpose of thwarting her.
Which Democrat will oppose Sen. McCaskill?
First she will need to run against the other Republicans in the primary. There is no guarantee she would win that. There could be several good candidates in the Republican primary.
Steelman is a tea party favorite. Jim Talent may also run; he lost to McCaskill last time.
I was going to post more info but Firefox is giving me problems.
Who cares?
I’d vote for Kevin the lost bunny of the apocalpse before McCaskill.
Yes, he did lose, but it was in the great purge of Republicans in 2006. Also she only beat him by the skin of her teeth (50-47%).
I am undecided who I will support at this time. I like Steelman, but fear she is a poor campaigner. I've heard her speak and it was not pretty. Hopefully she has improved.
Here is a story I just posted, which has more info:
Steelman makes it official: Running for Senate in '12 (Missouri)
Great news that likeable Claire has an opponent! Claire has had more faces than the carnival mirror walk, and a head that swivels on issues. She single handedly threw a large wave of votes to Obama, over Hillary, ingratiating herself with the One, and now it’s pay up time. She can’t back track fast enough, hopelessly moving back to the Right.
Sounds like Sharron Angle II. Well-spokenness is important.
Reminds me of the actress Nicollette Sheridan.
I would urge caution with Steelman.
In my mind as a Missourian and political observer I would note that she seems to be a political opportunist. How do I define that? She will use what ever argument fits her at the time to win. Just ask former congressman Kenny Hulshoff.
Do not be misled into believing motives.
Unlike many tea party/grass roots activist, she is more of an establishment figure than what you may believe - including working being endorsed by at lease one state union. Her husband was selected for a job for current Democrat governor Jay Nixon. Did I mention she coddled extreme left wing journalist David Catanese?
Let me be up front on why I have no problem breaking Reagan’s 11th commandment when speaking about Steelman. She had no problem doing so with Hulshoff or anyone else, regardless if they deserved it or not.
Is Steelman an upgrade over McCaskill? By far.
I would have trouble voting for her, however. Because its always about her and her self.
We need to be realistic about who we are electing even when it is a supposed "Tea Party" person.
These people all get the same pool of campaign managers, transition experts, staffers and future fund raisers as the old guard does and that pool of people are all tied to lobbyists for area interests.
I have seen this for a fact as within days of the election the "new guys" have had the old interest funnels appear with their offers of connections.
We are electing LEGISLATORS, a scummy breed in general, even those promising change need to constantly be worried about thier local support.
Here is something else to ponder. At the MO Republican Convention of 2008 Steelman caused some minor chaos by supporting and attending a Ron Paul rally. The Ron Paul delegates were attempting to get Paul the nomination for MO and she co-oped them to get more votes. Anyway, Steelman created enemies within the State Party, they won’t forget that and I wonder how much damage was done. While this is not insurmountable, it will take a strong base of Tea Party support (which I have yet to see in action in MO). It will certainly be an interesting election.
I've seen this first hand. See my previous comment about convention.
She’s been joined at the hip with obama from day one.
