So after union benefits, union workers take home the wages that are market balanced. Ironic.

There could be several reasons why 60 Minutes would choose to run this story just over week before the critical election. I think a part of it is that the MSM has lied for, covered for, ignored for, and been in the tank for Obama so often and so shamelessly, that now that things have gone so terribly during his first almost two years, the MSM must get out of the tank and begin to tell some of the truth to preserve what little credibility they have left.

Even Chris Matthews has made a few logical observations lately, and the NYT has published some stories critical of Obama. He's proven to be so disastrous that the MSM has to pull back some out of self-preservation. The MSM is losing audience because they have become little more than leftist propaganda outlets, and the people have many alternatives to them now. Even they have to read the writing on the wall at some point, or become totally irrelevant to most everyone.

Especially as 401K plans become savings accounts of last resorts. Taking that money so that they cannot touch it until government gives it to you would cause riots - or starvation.

Same here, Sam.

I run a lab that tests computerized equipment for the Government.

Last opening I had, paying in the 40-50K range, I had 126 resumes. There were three retired majors in there, and one retired lieutenant colonel. Amazing!

This was two years ago. We just posted a new (similar) job, we’ll see what we get.

My grandparents (rest their souls), used to talk to me about the Great Depression. It was clear that it was very tough on them, yet they pulled through.

It sure looks to me that we are very close to living those days in our time.

Personally, I am fine, but it turns my stomach to see what is happening all around our country.

Perhaps things will start to change for the better after this election, just perhaps.

Best of luck to you...

Your company wouldn’t happen to need a programmer would it?

Can’t believe 60 Minutes/CBS is airing this a week before the election.

60 Minutes must have done research and found out it helped dems. They only shill for liberals.

‘Soon we will all have to go back to making our own margarine in a squeeze bag!’

Actually it was already made, but as white as lard. The dairy folks had passed laws saying you couldn’t sell margarine that was artificially colored. So it was sold with a packet of coloring, which you had to mix in to make it look palatable.

At the risk of looking like a dope I am going to post this again.

There may be others out there that don’t watch TV at all. This is well worth watching.

60 Minutes video: Unemployment Benefits: The 99ers.

Thanks so much for posting that link. I don't watch TV so would have missed this very sad episode of 60 Minutes. My heart goes out to the folks profiled and all those who are currently unemployed.

The best indicator of this episode, and one that may have been edited out, would have been: and whom did you vote for in 2006 2008 and what party do you favor in 2010. Last I saw, both GOP candidates in Ca, senate and gov, were behind in their respective races.

What is the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.

As bad as it is now, wait till to the tax increases or new taxes arrive next year. That should be the final nail. My advice, load up on survival goods and guns and ammmo.

We are not even considering them because we know that as soon as the economy turns around, they will leave us to take another job

That might be something you want to rethink.

Yes the person probably will not stay in that position for long but they might move up in your company. During the last downturn the company I was with hired a top salesman despite the fact that we were a small local candy company. He liked the job so much that he stayed and the company benefited.

The biggest failing of the GOP, in my opinion, is that AS A PARTY they do absolutely NOTHING to see the furtherance of the party’s [supposed] planks.
Remember when the Republicans had control of the Legislature and the Executive? How many proposals did they put forward to illegalize abortion?
How about shrink the size/scope/expenditure of government?

At least the Democratic party, AS A PARTY, *tries* to achieve their goals.
The Republican PARTY, IMO, is playing the “bitter gun- and religion-clingers” for fools*.

*remember that NY spot? NY-21 was it?

Actually, it’s good to hear my price is out of line. I try real hard to support our local grocery....dinky town and all that.
But, prices at Walmart are definitly higher...when I get there!

>10Blessed are all who have grievances,
>For they shall be compensated through civil rights lawsuits.

What if my grievances include the restrictions of the right for me, a freeman, to be armed?
What if my grievances include that the judicial-system is, due to ‘precedence’ & ‘case-law,’ little more than a game of “Telephone” with my rights?
What if my grievances include the failure of the governments, city, county, state, and federal to abide by the strictures imposed on them by their various Constitutions?

I have a stack of prospectuses here, on my desk, that were sent to me when I investigated rolling my 401K into an IRA.

I don’t know when the end of the day will come for the main stream media.

The Dallas Morning News is a New York Times clone. Every time I open that paper, I cuss at it.

They’ve lost subscriptions, lost sales in vending machines, lost advertisers big time, almost no classifieds anymore.

They only print a few letters from conservatives but the online posts to them are almost universally critical.

But they haven’t learned a dang thing.

Out of line? It's downright price gouging.

Hopefully, you can score some reasonably priced butter and produce.
