NPR Ends Analyst’s Contract After Comments on Muslims (Juan Williams)
New York Times ^ | October 20, 2010

Posted on 10/20/2010 8:45:07 PM PDT by La Lydia

NPR has terminated its contract with Juan Williams, one of its senior news analysts, after he made comments about Muslims on the Fox News Channel. NPR said in a statement that it gave Mr. Williams notice of his termination on Wednesday night. The move came after Mr. Williams, who is also a Fox News political analyst, appeared on the “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday. On the show, the host, Bill O’Reilly, asked him to respond to the notion that the United States was facing a “Muslim dilemma.” Mr. O’Reilly said, “The cold truth is that in the world today jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet.”

Mr. Williams said he concurred with Mr. O’Reilly.

He continued: “I mean, look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

Mr. Williams also made reference to the Pakistani immigrant who pleaded guilty this month to trying to plant a car bomb in Times Square. “He said the war with Muslims, America’s war is just beginning, first drop of blood. I don’t think there’s any way to get away from these facts,” Mr. Williams said.

NPR said in its statement that the remarks “were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”

The public radio organization said it thanked him for many years of service. Mr. Williams did not immediately respond on Wednesday night to an e-mail seeking comment...

Narcistic Political Radio

Defined:

Narcissism is the personality trait of egotism, vanity, conceit, or simple selfishness. Applied to a social group, it is sometimes used to denote elitism or an indifference to the plight of others.

Using these standards, there is no logical way that NPR can support or endorse barack obama.
He has admitted much more prejudice in his numerous biographies.

I’m with you...Williams is about the only leftist on FOX that doesn’t cause me to start throwing things at the TV...most of the time.

Who will they hire to replace him?

Its a fair bet it won't be somebody honest.

I never cared much for most of Juan William's political views. But I generally respected him for his honesty.

“The GOP congress needs to end NPR funding next session.”

Put this on the list, absolutely.

New Republicans - just get it done; damn the torpedos.

Yours is a good take on Williams. I actually like listening to him because he occasionally surprises...all the rest of the lib hacks are so predictable; at least Williams occasionally speaks from his heart, and got fired for it.

I think what got him fired is that, “he agreed with Bill O’Reilly”.

Regards

I consider Juan equal to a crash dummie on most days but I never ever once thought he should be off the air.

Ah, but while those on NPR have no problem with discussing their fear of this nation's Christian Right, Williams crossed the Left's line -- clearly on display at NPR -- of daring to speak of his concern with Islamic ROT (Religion of Terror).

Hey Juan is a nutty but still likable Liberal, but I believe NPR was looking for an excuse to get rid of him for years, because in their opinion he was a Uncle Tom

NPR wanted to get rid of him because he's a Hillary Clinton supporter.

This is internal Democrat politics.

They'll replace him with one of the Capitol Hill staffers who are going to be fired after the election.

There are probably some Freepers who could name the candidates!

Liberals that are cheering the firing of Juan Williams are the same people that protested the firing of Helen Thomas over her remarks about Jews. How do you reconcile that?

Hillary Parrot ~ the man is a Clintonista, not an Obamista. Always has been. NPR was waiting for what they thought would be a good opportunity to move him out to move in one of the Obamistas losing his or her job on Capitol Hill next Wednesday.

Remember, it's not just the Congress-Critters at risk, it's their staff!

The deal is totally impersonal ~ true to their calling, the concentration camp managers at NPR hang a number on you and that's the end of that.

The GOP congress needs to end NPR funding next session.

We better remind the new Congress who put them there and force them to take overdue action to begin defunding NPR. The GOP has been too timid to take on the media on tough issues.

Rush is right!

Wow ... Even the libs are upset with the government-funded opinion station they consider "moderate" and "even-balanced".

Juan will be fine at FoxNews and it might be interesting to hear the opinions of a Liberal Not bound to do other than speak his mind.

For once I agree with Williams. Wonders never cease. He'll be better off getting away from those racists at NPR. Maybe he'll finally see the light and come out of the darkness of the left. Highly unlikely, but possible.

But now we'll see him more on Fox. Ugh....

Liberal: “Everyone who disagrees with us is a racist! We know because we saw a few signs out of thousands last March. They are all RACISTS.”
