Palin Opens Up About Possible 2012 Run, Says She's Willing to 'Give It a Shot'
Fox News ^ | September 17, 2010

Sarah Palin may be edging closer to a 2012 presidential run, telling Fox News "I would give it a shot" if the American people think she's "the one."

The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee was in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday for the Reagan Dinner, a big GOP fundraiser in the heart of water-testing country for presidential candidates.

Palin has remained coy about her ambitions, but she elaborated a bit in an interview with Fox News, attaching several conditions to the possibility of a 2012 presidential run.

"If the American people were to be ready for someone who is willing to shake it up, and willing to get back to time-tested truths, and help lead our country towards a more prosperous and safe future and if they happen to think I was the one, if it were best for my family and for our country, of course I would give it a shot," she said.

"But I'm not saying that it's me. I know I can certainly make a difference without having a title. I'm having a good time doing exactly that right now."

Palin, a Fox News contributor and best-selling author since leaving the governor's mansion last year, has become one of the Tea Party movement's biggest allies. She's also thrown her clout around in the GOP primary season with a string of endorsements.

She said in February that she'd be "willing" to take on President Obama in two years, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday he suspects she's testing the water.

“White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday he suspects she’s testing the water.”

Bobby, she’s done more than stick a toe in, she’s waded right in and is draining the pool ‘cause it’s filled with filth and muck. Once she gets some clean water and a shock treatment in there in November, then I think she’ll be ready to take a dip.

"Deeds, not words."

Look up her record of accomplishment as governor of Alaska. She did more in her partial term than most governors get done in two full terms. She IS a competent administrator AND a charismatic candidate.

Word of advice. You folks who want someone other than Sarah as the nominee need to put your heads together now and decide to back one guy, if you want to have any chance of being competitive in the primaries.

If it’s a shoot-out between Sarah and one other candidate with significant support, you might have a shot. If it’s Sarah vs. five candidates who all have a little support, then it’s already over.

“The election is two years out and in Presidential politics two years is a minimum to get the job done.”

Well, even though she’s not officially campaigning yet, she’s been in the news dang near every single day since McCain picked her as VP. I’d say she’s got a hellova lead start on anyone else.

“They WILL sandbag her. We have the proof of that.”

Sandbags might help if a river is rising, but they can’t stop a hurricane.

I think if you are disgraced and defeated by a female in Islam, then you have to “off” yourself but I’m not positive.

Well, being that Sarah Palin is probably going to whup the tar out of Obama in the 2012 election, maybe he ought to just go ahead and get that out of the way, now. You know, just to be safe and all.

“She’s doing so well now — why upset the apple cart?”

Well, the country needs a real leader, and I think Sarah knows that as well as anyone. She’s humble, so she might not think that she is “the one”, as she says, but I think her love of country won’t allow her to be complacent if nobody else will rise to the occasion.

I for one believe she truly is "the one".

So do I...

I’m with you on this. Palin bailing out as Alaska governor after two years sounds a bit like Obama running from his Senate seat to the White House.

I don’t want McCain, Romney, Huckabee or Palin. That crew all needs to stay back in the year 2008 and the bad memory that was.

Bring on the new people like Paul Ryan, Chris Christie, etc. People that don’t have baggage yet with huge percentages of the American public.

If she is running, this puts a new twist on her active stance in creating the new Congress. She may be getting all her ducks in a row, while Obama is wondering where he put his chess set

Man, heads are going to be exploding EVERYWHERE! We are living through remarkable times...

You ain't kiddin'. Sarah's announcement is going to be the best thing that's happened to the MSM in ages, because the news will be nothing but Sarah, 24/7, for weeks on end.

When she announces floodgates of support will literally burst wide open across the country. The enthusiasm her candidacy will generate is going to dwarf anything we've seen in generations.

It will also be real. Honest. Heartfelt. And with an ultimate Purpose to restore this country to its timeless basics. It will be the D-Day Landing of The American Patriot Movement on the shores of tyranny.

“She deserves a great deal of thanks for all she has done so far but it will be easier to get somebody like Jim DeMint or Paul Ryan across the finish line than it will to get her elected.”

DeMint and Ryan are great, but they just aren’t exciting to anyone except conservatives, and even then, they mainly only excite the “anybody but Palin” conservatives very much.

Palin, as you say, is polarizing. That cuts both ways however. Those who “get” her, will be more passionate about her candidacy than anyone she could possibly endorse. Those who don’t “get” her, well, they mostly wouldn’t vote for any Republican candidate anyway. There’s not much room for sitting on the fence when it comes to Sarah, and I for one am willing to stake the farm that the American people will come down on the right side of the fence in this scenario.

Obama is also polarizing, and at this point, I think more polarizing than Palin will ever be. Will the media smears against Palin be enough to make people forget their massive anger at Obama? I really doubt it. If it turns out that it is, then maybe America deserves another four years wandering in the wilderness.

No, O’Donnell has to win.
Castle was going to have a ticker tape parade to victory.
So that is the yardstick by which O’Donnell will be measured.
She won’t have to have a blow out, but she will need a win.
Otherwise, the narrative will be that Palin and the Tea Parties have setback the Republican party.

I’ll support her 1000% IF and only if she is willing to be the Barracuda she says she is.

I don't think you have to worry about that. Since the end of the 2008 campaign, she's displayed more guts and courage than any other politico in the nation. She isn't afraid to stand up to those who wrong our country, be they on the left, or the right.

We've seen her campaign before. She was fiery, even while being kept on a choke chain by the McNuts campaign. She was like Patton. She wanted to go much further with the fight than the campaign wanted to go. Once she's calling the shots, look out. She's gonna carpet bomb the left.

Sarah, you have to give it more than a shot. Do not sound as though the fire isn’t in the belly.

Remember that she can't announce before she announces. She's got to hold back just a little bit longer. It's not time for her to be the story, just yet. We've got a Congress to take back, first.

If she stepped out any stronger than she did in that statement, it would act as a premature announcement, which would throw off the correct timing.

It's my belief that Sarah decided long ago to run for the White House, and that she's been very carefully building her base and her alliances in preparation for the big day. She's a brilliant strategist, and already knows where and when she's going to pull the trigger on her run.
