Palin Opens Up About Possible 2012 Run, Says She's Willing to 'Give It a Shot'
Fox News ^ | September 17, 2010

Posted on 09/17/2010 2:56:39 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Sarah Palin may be edging closer to a 2012 presidential run, telling Fox News "I would give it a shot" if the American people think she's "the one."

The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee was in Des Moines, Iowa, Friday for the Reagan Dinner, a big GOP fundraiser in the heart of water-testing country for presidential candidates.

Palin has remained coy about her ambitions, but she elaborated a bit in an interview with Fox News, attaching several conditions to the possibility of a 2012 presidential run.

"If the American people were to be ready for someone who is willing to shake it up, and willing to get back to time-tested truths, and help lead our country towards a more prosperous and safe future and if they happen to think I was the one, if it were best for my family and for our country, of course I would give it a shot," she said.

"But I'm not saying that it's me. I know I can certainly make a difference without having a title. I'm having a good time doing exactly that right now."

Palin, a Fox News contributor and best-selling author since leaving the governor's mansion last year, has become one of the Tea Party movement's biggest allies. She's also thrown her clout around in the GOP primary season with a string of endorsements.

She said in February that she'd be "willing" to take on President Obama in two years, and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday he suspects she's testing the water.

>Who said he’s not around 20? You believe MSM polls?<

I believe the polls in general and look at all of them from ABC to Zogby and everything in between. It is very telling at any given point in time what people are thinking. Obama is in the tank for sure, but not where he should be and that is because too many people are eeking out a living and can’t be bothered to see reality.

I have constant disagreements with people who still think Obama is great on facebook, Buzz, twitter, get togethers etc. To think that he is disliked by more than 60% is pretty narrow sighted and wishful thinking. There are still a ton of people believing the hype about hope and change and still blaming Bush for everything.

>You feel insulted because I express my opinion as you did yours? LOL!! Toughen up - ‘insulted’ ‘offended’ is in thin skin ‘PC’ territory - where only ‘one’ has the right to speak.<

My opinion was pretty constructive and a legitimate concern I have about the MSM trashing her. Not a personal attack on anyone. Unlike yours.

>It has been a queasy week.<

I have been sick to my stomach since Obama won the election. My blood pressure sky rockets when I read what he is doing on a daily basis. I can’t watch the news at all anymore and I would rather toss a brick through my flat screen than listen and watch one of his speeches

“Probability of her winning would be poor.”
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

She would get my vote but I am just a man. The outcome would be determined by the majority of voters, in other words women! Would women flock to the polls to vote for Sarah? I have my doubts. I have seen no evidence yet to indicate that the majority of American women want to see a woman in the top job. They certainly didn’t come through for Elizabeth Dole or Hillary Clinton. No woman is going to get 92 percent of the woman’s vote simply by being a woman. As far as the men go they will NOT vote JUST for a pretty face, they will have to believe in her abilities and direction and many will not even consider voting for a woman regardless. Maybe the only way a woman will be elected is for this race to be between Sarah and Hillary, leaving no other choice. I consider that to be a possibility.

I have in the past asked a number of women if they would vote for a woman as president and it has been an eye opening experience. The most common reaction has been to turn away briefly and after a long pause a soft spoken, “No”.

I don’t expect to see Palin vs Obama happen, mainly because I don’t see Obama running again. The only way I see him going past four years is under martial law and he will be recognized by all as only a figurehead if that happens.

>Went cant appease the liberals and the media. and we can’t play nice.<

I agree! But the question becomes how do we combat these people who control the MSM to get them to tell the truth again. To be the guardians of the republic as they were supposed to be?

This is what is most important IMO. Because if we could get people away from Couric, Matthews, Olberman, Sawyer et al and just take a look at the reality of what Obama has been doing they would be incited to riot!

Imagine the leftists being told the truth about his policies and where it will land all of us? Most of them are just sheep that hate Bush ... a war .. whatever. But they fail to see the difference between the rhetoric and reality.

They listen to some tell me what I want to hear speeches and consider themselves informed. They may even catch one of the aforementioned commentators praising the one with a tingle up their legs and figure it is all good.

How can we level the playing field??

>What about doing what is best for this country ?<

I think that most of us here are doing just that including Palin. I think that if it is a choice for her to be president or stay on the side promoting, she will go where she thinks the country needs her influence most. I believe that she is a true patriot.

>to hell with the media. and the ignorant Palin haters in every zip code will either be like Mondale voters in 84.. or they will catch on.<

Your right, but at what point do they catch on?
After hyperinflation hits and we are like Russia when the USSR collapsed and maggot filled meat was on the shelves? When people were living 15 to a two room apartment each working two or three jobs to put a loaf of bread on the table.

My anxiety is over the MSM who for whatever reason (and there are many) are propping up this unqualified idiot with a chip the size of Mount Rushmore on his shoulder who we now have as a leader. They are the true enemies of the people for their deceitfulness and treachery in hiding facts and out right lying about true patriots like Palin.

Yeah if she is on the ticket I am behind her 100%, but we need to do more than phone people, talk and contribute $$ .. we have to find a way to beat the beast back and force them to come clean with the American people.

Palin can not just win, she needs to win so decisively with such a landslide that it backs the socialists right out of DC for decades. That can only happen when we get the truth out there. To do that, the MSM must be taken on.

So please, someone lets hear some plans to make this a no contest for Palin. Singing her praises is fine here. But we need to ensure that the truth gets out so she can make that type of decisive victory we need so desperately now. All kinds of stuff will have to be undone that Obama has done now (ie health care). She needs a win over him like 70/30!

(sorry about the rant, but at least I finally got it off my chest - flame away)

So far the winner of the GOP primary in my state, South Carolina, has ALWAYS gone on to win the Republican nomination. Unfortunately, last time around, the winner was McCain.

>She would get my vote but I am just a man. The outcome would be determined by the majority of voters, in other words women!<

She would get mine as well.
Now what you said about the women you have spoken with doesn’t surprise me at all. That resonates with what I have heard as well which is why I have such a sick feeling in my gut about this. I think women are more into watching “The View” “Oprah” “Ellen” and the like and they portray Palin as some kind of idiot. (which is almost funny considering Joey Behar is blithering) They would rather watch that than actually dig to find out the truth. That type of information is more geared to them than men and it is a bad thing for Palin.

I have said for a long time that Obama will probably not run again. That he most likely will not finish his 4 years. I think after 3 1/2 he will abdicate his throne.
His ego could NEVER withstand the loss he will take at the polls no matter who runs against him. If it is someone who is not politically savaged by the media he may take a serious beating and he doesn’t want that. If that happened it would appear as a mandate to overturn most of not all of his legislation and thus his legacy.

The worst thing that can happen to Obama personally would be for him to be ridiculed as a complete failure. It would be torture to his warped mind to think he was not loved and adored by all beneath him. He is a sick man.

You're right. And you can also make a long list of people who won in the pissant states of New Hampshire and Iowa and went on to lose the nomination. The Huckster, Pat Buchanan and George Bush I (against Reagan) come immediately to mind. And that's just off the top of my head.

Both states are attention whores and atypical of the average voter. New Hampshire is famous for economic conservatives who p*ss on social conservatives. Iowa is famous for social conservatives who love pork and economic populism a/k/a redistribution. Both are repugnant to real conservatives who should believe fervently in both economic and social conservatism, sort of like they do in South Carolina.

counting FR isn’t really counting the general population. For the most part Freepers are conservative.

As I said, "take FR for example". I didn't mean that you should take FR as a literal cross-section of America.

My point was that if you listen to what others are saying out beyond the small circle of intimates you referred to, you can get a better sense of how much support Palin has among the general public.

Actually, FR isn't a bad place to sample attitudes of the center-right. It's the largest gathering place of center-right/conservative/Republicans, and also Independents, on the internet. The views here are very representative of the mainstream.

The only view you can't sample here, is the liberal view, which only accounts for 20% of the US population, and who will not vote for Sarah Palin under any circumstances anyway.

“or actively working with the enemy (Newt)...”

Pelosi’s buddy was on Greta last night and tried to walk a tightrope between the cocktail/country club crowd and the Tea Party candidates, but then he said that Castle was a good friend of his. Hint, hint, wink, wink - he’s playing the con game (go ahead and support me and after you help me win, I’m back to the cocktail circuit).

This cocktail circuit country club business is really getting the goat (that’s nicer than pissing them off, isn’t it) of the “insider” power structure.

He needs to understand the he and anyone else who undermines our goals will become a pariah.

Take FR, for example. Freepers are spread out all across the country, and represent every demographic there is. Open any Palin thread and count the pro versus con posts, and see how she rates. It's very high.

I want to say that I am Pro Palin, and have been since the first time she stepped on the national stage. I will campaign for her vigorously, if she decides to run.

Having said that, please don't equate Freepers with the national public. Were you here during the last primaries? There was a purge of non - Thompson republicans. If you dared to support any candidate that was not site approved (Guilliani) you were kicked off. Guilliani may not have been as conservative as many would have liked, there is no denying that, but IMO he was the best on National defense, and the one that would have stood up to the IslamoFascits that are on the rise once again.

I know, in the end, the election turned on the economy, but many here also predicted, correctly, that the Terrorists would win in the end if Obama was elected.

So again, although I 100% support Palin in 2012, don't take the "pulse" of Free Republic and turn that into national support.

Of course she will run.

She'll win 40+ states too.

None of the other GOP candidates identified so far stand a chance in the primaries against her. She will take ALL of the conservative vote in the GOP primaries.

The attacks by the dims, the MSM and the ESTABLISHMENT GOP will be withering and like nothing we have ever seen before. The only question: Are the American People fed up with this sh!t yet? Is it still possible to destroy the person who carries the banner and ignore the principals which brought the banner into existence in the first place?

Time will tell as I am certain Palin has heard her calling is is even now plotting her strategy.

“It’s not time for her to be the story, just yet. We’ve got a Congress to take back, first.”

So the strategy is to fan the embers with a little kindling to re-spark her support power?
