Update, 4:22 p.m.:
Lisa Murkowski just slightly narrowed Joe Millers lead down to 1,210 votes with a new batch of absentee votes in from Southeast Alaska, the Kenai Peninsula and Fairbanks. Murkowski is going to have to start cutting into the lead by a far bigger margin soon or shes going to be out.
The latest batch included 3,162 absentee votes. The Division of Elections has counted nearly 13,000 votes today, 9,000 of which have been Republican primary votes that impact the Miller-Murkowski race. Murkowski cut Millers lead down from 1,668 votes to 1,210 votes in that time.
About 3,000 more votes are expected today from Southeast Alaska, the Kenai Peninsula and the Fairbanks area.
The Division of Elections will have an additional roughly 9,000 votes to process for counts on Friday and Sept. 8. The number isnt firm because some more absentees are likely to come in and some votes will be disqualified. Also, not all those votes will be for the Republican primary.
Worth repeating.
Murkowski is going to have to start cutting into the lead by a far bigger margin soon or shes going to be out.
She knows this.
Half the absentees have been counted already and Murkowski only picked up 400 or so votes.
People are saying that she’s close to conceding.
After this race, focus on O’Donnell in DE. That election is 2 weeks away.
Lovely idea but some of us live in states where all voting is done through a mail in vote. It’s not a matter of being lazy, we no longer have the option of going to a literal polling booth.
When it is 9 pm in the East, it is 5 pm in Alaska.
hope Joe wins!! and I hope Lisa does the right thing, concedes, congratulates, and endorses Joe.

Anchorage talk-radio host Dan Fagan on 750 KFQD just said that the votes remaining to be counted would have to break 55% for Lisa Murkowski in order for her to win: Thats not going to happen . . . . Its over.

That is a 1469 vote lead for Miller. Considering that Miller's lead shrank to about 1294 votes at one point, this sounds like very good news...
Joe Miller is from a conservative state where we expect conservatives to be strongly conservative.
Scott Brown is from a strongly liberal state where a conservative has to be middle of the road just to get elected (and even that was a squeaker). A strong conservative will not be elected from Massachusetts. Demanding one from there will only ensure the liberal Democrat will get elected.
More than 10K Republican ballots counted today and Lisa has picked-up less than 200. Someone cue the fat lady.
Wow I see that’s Joe’s up by 1469!
I just got back from town (Fairbanks), about 45 minutes ago. While I was there I stopped by Joe’s office, he was really upbeat, he mentioned the “found” votes, but didn’t seem worried. I told him it was an honor to meet him and asked if he had any signs. He gave me the last one, so if figured what the heck. I’ll ask him to sign it. HE DID!
Go-Joe-GO!
Oh yeah...
And with a name like Aroostook, you know that Maine isn’t Mass either.

From Sean Cockerham at the Alaska Division of Elections office in Anchorage —
Update, 5:09 p.m.:
It’s looking bad for Lisa Murkowski. The latest count of absentees increased Miller’s lead to 1,469 votes. Fairbanks probably helped Miller, although the votes were also from Southeast Alaska and the Kenai Peninsula.
The Murkowski campaign was really counting on a big boost from Southeast, which didn’t happen.
The latest batch was a count of 2,760 votes. It brings the total counted today to about 15,700 votes. Still awaiting some more Kenai absentee votes.
