WASHINGTON An enormous and impassioned crowd rallied at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, summoned by Glenn Beck, a conservative broadcaster who called for a religious rebirth in America at the site where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous I Have a Dream speech 47 years ago to the day.
Something that is beyond man is happening, Mr. Beck said in opening the event as the crowd thronged near the memorial grounds. America today begins to turn back to God.
It was part religious revival, part history lecture, as Mr. Beck invoked the founding fathers and the black-robed regiment of pastors of the Revolutionary War and spoke of American exceptionalism.

Officials do not make crowd estimates because they are unreliable and can be controversial, but event organizers put the number of attendees at 500,000; NBC News said it was closer to 300,000, but by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

Ignore the deranged pipsqueaks. They sat on their collective asses throwing stones while Beck did the heavy lifting this week. I’m not a huge Beck fan, but he’s done good. God bless him.
There are talkers and then there are doers who truly care about others. I’m just hoping none of these loose screws around here fall onto my keyboard and jam it up. :)
Always loved Maine—camped up on Mt. Desert Isle for several years. And your blueberries make the very best pies—spoiled me for anything else. Love your screen name!
Meant to ping you too.
Have you met diogenes?
Does anyone else wonder how so many of these threads keep getting hijacked by Mormon-bashers? What ever happened to you celebrate your religion and Ill celebrate mine? This mud fight is getting ridiculous! If a person wants to worship a treethats his own businss!! We need to pray for these people who have nothing else to do.
Probably because the article is about a Mormon pretending to be a Christian. It is highly offensive to those who are Christians to be associated with heretics, who up until recently had the decency to insist on that separation. Somwhere recently, LDS has decided to attack the Church and target the weaker of the faith for their indoctrination.
The concept of "you celebrate your religion and I'll celebrate mine" is akin to watching your neighbor's home burn down with them in it and rationalizing to yourself that its none of your business to initiate a rescue
Dittos with the approval of people condemning themselves to eternal damnation because they are worshipping a tree. But what is most offensive is that you are suggesting that we pray so that the Gospel is quenched and does not go out.
It sounds like you are advocating the Anti-Commission, that God is somehow glad and eager to make sure that the Truth of the Gospel never gets out. To me, that is pure demonic.
Im a Presbyterian.
I'm guessing PC-USA. Sounds like their M.O.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and even-toned post. I cannot argue with a single point you make. All of your points have been rolling around in my head since before George Bush was elected the second time. I knew those four years would bring a last reprieve from judgment for our nation and if true Christians didn’t wake up and get to work, I feared the days to come. Those days are here.
When viewing this calamity from the perspective of eternal salvation, who cares, really? I mean if we are doing God’s will personally, then we have nothing to fear. I don’t fear anything at all for me. My fear is for the future of my children. That is the only thing that keeps me from forgetting the whole matter. I just pray for time to help them all be clothed in Christ before those days of misery.
Really, related to examples in the Bible, for me the closest to America is Sodom and Gomorrah. God did tell Abraham He would not destroy the city if a certain number of righteous could be found. So there is an example of a time God said He was willing to change His mind. And Ninevah would have been destroyed, had they not repented, so God changed His mind there—as you pointed out.
Of course, I never forget that this earth was not created to last forever. God has promised an end, and assured us that those who have prepared will be rewarded. No one, not even Jesus knows when that day is to come. Maybe tonight, while we sleep?
There is no argument that Romans 13 makes very clear that God can take out any nation He so chooses, and the rest of the Bible is thick with examples of Him doing just that. America is really a speck when placed next to the awesome God of creation.
I guess, truth is, the human side of me is having a hard time letting go. It’s like watching a loved one die of cancer. You want to keep believing there is a treatment that will bring life to them, but in the end, all you can do is mourn and prepare.
Glenn Beck’s rally has the potential for the administration of a type of Chemo, but real healing would truly take God’s hand. Only God knows if we are worthy of that effort. Just having someone speak of God in a visual way in front of so many caused me to believe a repentant spirit might be possible—
Anyway, thank you again for taking time to respond. I do love this country, but I love God more, and it sounds as if you do, too. God bless and keep your lamp filled!
Amen.
John 3:16-18
16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
I'm just SURE that you have SOME kind of documentation to back up this claim; right?
You have a gift!
Or just a plain ol' fruit BAT!
Thank you for Post #22. I’m glad you understood and liked what Glenn Beck did. I really should not be surprised that this thread turned into a Mormon bashing session. It happens all the time.
Meanwhile, thanks to Glenn Beck who was responsible for this great rally!!! I watched the entire thing live on C-Span and was blown away. He was smart to tell people not to bring signs. He knew that the “others” were planning to crash the event pretenting to be tea party people and try to fool the media into focusing on their horrible lying signs.
Beck is a genius and I imagine this is one of the few “conservative” sites that is filled with anti Mormon comments and wasting valuable time condemning the rally.
Today’s “Fresno Bee” about the rally never even mentioned the Special Operations sponsorship. Not one word. Instead, the headline is about how mostly white people attended and they gave a lot of space to the Sharpton rally.
It doesn’t matter, though, because anyone with a brain and half a heart can see the lies and distortions. Yahoo!
I thank God for Beck and his efforts on behalf of restoring honor in our country.
Why engage these with welfare junkies!
