There appears to be a rift in the House of Paul. Republican Rep. Ron Paul has split with his son Rand over the mosque near Ground Zero, formally known as the Cordoba House.
The senior Paul, in a statement released Friday, ripped into opponents of the religious and cultural center. In the statement Paul compares lawmakers to the infamous Emperor Nero, "It looks to me like the politicians are 'fiddling while the economy burns,'" and goes on to blame the neo-conservative movement for fueling the controversy, "They never miss a chance to use hatred toward Muslims to rally support for the ill conceived preventative wars." Paul concludes:

If there's ever been another reason to view Ron (not Rnad) Paul as a dubious charcter, it's this.

Considering Rand is not yet elected, I’ll take what he says with a grain of salt, considering his father.

In a year of a GOP tidal wave, and in red state KY no less, this should be a layup.
Yet the KY GOP elected a semi-nutball whose father is a certified fruitcake.

"Ron Paul-never let an opportunity to stick you foot in your mouth go to waste." Too bad, he is my congressman and pretty good on most issues, but his hatred of neocons (I don't like them either) has gotten the best of him. He's way off base here, maybe going a little soft in the head? He's way up there in years.

He’s just a chip off the old man’s block.
It’s ONLY about MONEY to him.
He is NO patriot.

He better watch out. He may not get re-elelcted if he keeps this up—maybe not this election, but in the future.

If he truly understood the Constitution,
he’d have a firm understanding of where the principles it is based on come from.
He does not, as far as I can tell.

Yep this is one of those times he should just sit down and shut up. He did nothing at all useful here but did majorly shoot himself in the foot politically
Being contrary just for contriteness sake is the absence of, not the height of, wisdom.

“Ron Paul is the only person in Washington that TRULY understands The Constitution”
... but misunderstands much else.
This is about respect for the victims of 9/11, killed on behalf of this same religion.
Those who ‘dont get it’ should clam up and listen.

"If he truly understood the Constitution, hed have a firm understanding of where the principles it is based on come from. He does not, as far as I can tell." You are exactly correct. Even if you took God out of the equation (and you really can't) the simple, common sense questions of right and wrong is where RP often jumps the shark.
