Fox News host Glenn Beck: Some unemployed 99ers should be ashamed to call themselves American
New York Daily News ^ | 8/17/10 | Aliyah Shahid

Glenn Beck has a message for the chronically unemployed: You're a bunch of un-American losers. The Fox News host thinks some 99ers — those who have used up their 99 weeks of unemployment benefits—should be embarrassed to call themselves Americans (Snip) "Go out and get a job," said Beck. "You may not want the job. Work at McDonald's. Work two jobs. There has been plenty of times in my life I've done jobs I hated, but I had no choice. Two years is plenty of time to have lived off your neighbor's wallet."

I’ve been looking for well over a year and every single day I search all of the job listings and many of them are long expired or fake!

I don’t think many realize the toll it takes on a person when day after day, you search for a job, apply and submit your resume only to not hear back or get a rejection letter.

It wears you down mentally and emotionally.

Around here, people are lucky to get a job making $8-10 per hour.

That is true! My friends and I are age 50 and a little older and we are having a very difficult time finding something that will at least pay the utilities and house payments.

>>Certainly is IT and my average is 5 years which is normal for the industry.<<

LOL — if that fairytale helps you to sleep then have at it. If you were any good you would be employed. I have cheesein my ;fridge with more experience than you have.

Let me guess — LAN Admin? Windows OS installer? Something along those lines, I am sure. And those are vocations that are certainly on the line for outsourcing.

You let your tools get dull and Indians or Chinese ate your lunch.

If all Americans were like him the unemployment rate would be 0% - seriously, it has to be that simple.

There is no such thing as “no good at landscaping.” There is only “too good/lazy to do manual labor.”

That's a pretty pompous, egotistical, and condescending thing to say.

You obviously haven't seen how many plants in my now dirt gardens I have managed to kill...and I have put plenty of hours and manual labor into my landscaping.

There is such thing as "no good at landscaping".

Nobody is using lawn services now btw. 2 years ago I’d agree with you, and you could might even get by ok doing it. Not now.

Around here they certainly do. They also have housekeepers who clean at least a couple of days a week. And these aren't rich people just people with fairly good jobs.

Banks, law offices, court houses, drug stores, doctor's offices, etc. also pay very well to get their offices cleaned. And it's hard to find people who do a good job (or even show up to vacuum and take out the trash) even when the pay is good.

Detailing cars is another money maker around here and most of that is in CASH, so are home repairs that only take a day or two to finish (NO UNION).

Suck up to independently wealthy people ("evil rich") who have inherited granny's money. They will pay for ANYTHING.

Yeah, people that spend all night on a chat board yelling at people for being lazy, I’ve seen it all now.

There are some freaks online and I’ve been around since fairly early so I’m not surprised. It’s still sometimes a nasty surprise though, like my cat box was when I woke up today. Had to toss the whole thing out finally. I’m treating this the same way.

Looks like I am posting on DU where self-delusion is the coin of the realm.

I defy you to ask me any question about IT (I am in the ORACLE space but not EBS), especially management.

I will ask you one, sonny boy: Ethernet — protocol, topology or architecture? Please describe the aspects of each and how they apply.

And I ain’t even a hardware guy anymore.

Put up or shut up Daisy.

Nobody lives in a richer city over 250k than I do, and I have seen it myself. Sure there’s some top end types left still doing it, but the opportunity is gone to grow in this area.

I would say they are trying to continue sending out cash to keep hordes of people from walking into a ‘Safeway or Kroger’ and taking what they want. People aren’t going to sit on the curb like the last Depression hoping for better days.

If I was as lazy as you I would run as well.

I have been specific in what I do and how I ensure I bring value to the marketplace. I even gave you chances to explain how you have done the same.

Your answers: “whine whine whine whine poor poor me.”

As I said, if you were any good, you would be employed. My company is actively seeking out IT professionals (picked up $2K referral bonus [$900 after taxes!] last month). You are clearly not someone we would be seeking.

I defy you to pose questions to me or answer the ones I have put to you.

In California, the state closest to complete economic collapse, the going rate is $450 per week, New York is a $405. Lets go with the lower number for sake of argument. According to Obama's National Bureau of Labor Statistics the number of unemployed persons, at 14.6 million, and the unemployment rate, at 9.5 percent, were unchanged in July. That works out to 5.8 billion a week or 303.6 billion to extend every ones benefits an extra year. For comparison that is a little less than half the US military budget for 2009 or 17 times what we will spend on NASA in 2010. Not stimulus spending by any means but not a drop in the bucket either. Also that is just the cost of payouts. Administrative costs (and when dealing with a Federal bureaucracy I don't imagine those are small) have to get dumped on top of that.
