I asked myself the same question. But when I saw it on Haaretz -- which is the paper of the Liberal Israeli politicos -- I figured that they must have a better in on what's going on in Liberal NY than the rest of us.

There’s actually one closer. Only two blocks from the proposed site. I also heard that no parades are allowed to pass by a Mosque. I wonder if this is why the Macy’s Parade had to change their route?
I hope this is true.
I’m assuming they backed off because they didn’t want to hurt their agent in the White House.
They are running away to live and fight another day.
It will be very interesting to see what, if anything, comes of this news item.
Rush knows exactly why, the other mosque can’t be claimed as a victory mosque to raise the spirits of our enemies.
I’m assuming they backed off because of the clear and present political repercussions. These Imams play chess with religion so to speak, and sometimes you gotta take a few lumps. I don’t trust them.

I hope so!!! This muslim “community center” was going to be dedicated on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11/2011. This should not be allowed to happen.
For the record, I also wouldn’t approve of a Japanese Shinto shrine next to Pearl Harbor to be dedicated on 12/7/2011, or an American “community center” at ground zero in Hiroshima.
This isn’t going to change anything. Everybody’s on the record now.
Obama should have put the arm to these guys and got them to back off. He wouldn’t/couldn’t, so now all that’s left is Obama telling all of the 9/11 victims what racists they all are by not climbing on board the tolerance bandwagon.
I won’t believe it until I see a Starbucks there.

I hope it’s true, but I’ll believe it when I see them seek a permit for a different location.
Did anyone else notice the timing here? Full bore “We’re here to build bridges, you islam hating infidel bastards” until the moment Zero steps in it, then all of a sudden they back out. Hmmmm...
