Dems tout 'thrilling,' 'inspiration,' 'best caucus' ever By Eric Zimmermann - 06/24/10 02:48 PM ET
Democrats put on a show of unity this afternoon, claiming a special caucus on energy legislation was an emotional and inspirational success of the first proportion.
Though they seem to lack the votes for a carbon cap, party leaders emphasized the "inspirational" nature of their discussion, attempting to throw some momentum behind legislation that has so far lacked it.
"A number of senators said this was the best caucus they've ever attended," Majority Leader Harry Reid said at a press conference after the meeting. "It was really very, very powerful. It was inspirational quite frankly."
Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.), who has made climate legislation his hallmark issue, said the meeting was one of the most successful he'd ever attended.
"This was without doubt one of the most motivating, energized, and even inspirational caucuses that I've been part of since I've been here in the Senate in 26 years," he said.
Added Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.): "The Senate Democratic caucus that I just attended was absolutely thrilling. And by that I mean it was an uprising of the rank and file members of the caucus speaking with passion and purpose in favor of enacting strong comprehensive energy independence legislation this year."
Nevertheles, Democrats did not mention the cap-and-trade portion of the bill, which has failed to attract the 60 votes necessary to pass.
When asked how Democrats would make good on the "polluter pays" mantra that leaders repeated throughout the press conference, Kerry spoke only generally.
"Well I think you'll have to see what we come to the floor with, but that's the principle that's going to guide us and that was uniform within the caucus," he said.
No party hats?
Good Lord, they are beginning to sound like real losers.
Good Lord, they are beginning to sound like real losers.
You have to be kidding. Talk about whistling past the grave yard. Cap’n Trade begets Cap’n Crunch.
Kerry had fun? Then by all means, I must vote for it. /s
In other words, nothing got done.
Best caucus since 1994 perhaps?
I call my Congressional reps about 2-3 times a week on various issues. I live in Pennsylvania. Today I reminded my House of Representatives congressman that we already have gotten rid of Arlen Specter, and that he will be on the block in November if he doesn’t wake up and start listening to the voters.
Excellent.
...this is the same as a Dem calling the 1994 (and coming November elections) as "the best ever" as well...
I'd love to know what was in the water at this event...
So, they get a “thrill” out of designating new sectors of the economy for destruction? Those people are really twisted.
Group idiocy.
‘Thrilling’ sounds like faggots wrote the press release. They may as well have used ‘fabulous’.
They were thrilled because it was fabulous.
Smokin’ that stuff produces those kinds of results.
“Well I think you’ll have to see what we come to the floor with, but that’s the principle that’s going to guide us and that was uniform within the caucus,” he said.
SOoooo....Do we really get to see it this time, or will you pass it sso that we can find out what’s in it?
THe house is a lost cause. For any legislation Pelosi wants, at some point they will pull the legislation, threaten or blackmail the people they need, and bring it back for a vote with no debate and with an amendment nobody has ever seen.
The only hope is to stop it all in the Senate.
As I have said on another thread, our victory in November is a temporary one and the democrats know it. That is why they are defying all conventional wisdom and committing what appears to be suicide when n fact they are laying the foundation for a Soviet America..
Can they lie anymore than they are now? =.=
