Raleigh, N.C. The state NAACP says the Wake County Board of Education's move away from busing students to help balance socio-economic diversity in the school system is a "public emergency" and that the group won't stop fighting the board's "morally wrong" decision to move toward community-based schools.
"If it is necessary that we be locked up to resist policies that will lock down our children in re-segregated, high-poverty and unconstitutional schools, so be it," state chapter President Rev. William Barber said at a news conference Wednesday.
Barber and three others were arrested Tuesday evening and charged with second-degree trespassing after they interrupted the school board's meeting, locked arms and sang songs.

It also caused the hastened collapse of America's large cities. It was one of the most disastrous public policies of the 20th century -- which only stands to reason since the NAACP evidently still supports it.
I wish I could take credit for it. A caller to a local Raleigh radio talk-show (that's on right now) tossed that one out a few months ago. Every time I see this gravity-challenged man on TV I can't help but remember that caller tagging him with that name.
The NAACP position is that black children are incapable of learning anything unless they have white children sitting next to them.
Well whoever came up with buffet slayer, it is classic.
Consider it plagarized.
We love all the children of this community...Just not the white ones whose parents have a aversion to your cultural filth.
A high concentration of parental indifference to education, and a culture which denigrates the serious student rather than celebrating. This is a cultural problem on which 40 years of busing has had little impact.
I didn’t realize the expectation that children attend the school closest to their home was a form of segregation.
These nitwits need to stop behaving like animals and focus on building families with 2 parents.
Yeah, far better to bus in white kids from the subiurbs and lock THEM down in your “segregated, high-poverty, unconstitutional schools.”. After all, their moms and dads don’t work or pay taxes. Why should they benefit from the labors of all those homeboys?
You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink
You can send an urban kid to school but you can’t make him think
Student: "You can lead a whore to culture but you can't make her think."
Better lay off the pork chops, Rev.
Oh, please ... do you honestly believe a Wake County public school teacher knows what “horticulture” means, or that the curriculum assigns such vocabulary?
Hey!
My husband just interviewed yesterday for a transfer to his company’s plant in Asheville, NC! It went incredibly well, so we could be moving that way in the near future :)
Asheville is a great town. Bunch of hippie whacko liberals but a great place.
Great! Asheville is in a charming location, about two hours from where I live in the east-side Charlotte suburbs. It’s in the Diocese of Charlotte, which is very solid.
If you get an offer, you can come over to the NC Forum (just change your locale to NC) and ask about where to live. We have a number of active FReepers up that way.
Yeah, I’ve heard about the liberal part, but I’ve been to North Carolina, and it’s gorgeous! My mom practically grew up in Charlotte many years ago, and she remembers it fondly.
He actually interviewed for two positions, one for a facilities engineer (the one he applied for intially), and one for a project engineer ( new opening they were thinking he’d be perfect for). He spent over an hour on the phone, so he thinks it went pretty well :)
And my kids already have a funny accent, so there won’t be so much culture shock if we move! LOL Bonus is, it’s about 1/2 the distance to family that we are now.
FReepers describe their visits to Asheville as if they’ve been to the zoo ;-). It’s beautiful around Asheville, and there are outstanding Boy Scout camps (I hear - I never go anywhere ...).
One reason we live here is that our parents in Florida can drive or fly here in a day, without difficulty. It was very hard when we lived in Oklahoma!
Oh please yourself...the question here is should I expect tax-chick to recognize a famous Dorothy Parker quote...the answer is, sadly, no.
Sigh. I was making a joke about the education level of teachers, but it seems to have flown past. Dorothy Parker is overrated, anyway, imo.
