Well I am sure if the seal does not work well enough -and to be honest, “well enough” is virtually impossible to define here as even a few drops leaking out at a time would be deemed a miserable failure by the oil detractors-I suspect that they would shift to that option once they realize removing the flange is easier than they thought. Of course, as we both now know, it is hard to even tell how good the cut is now that they tried to even it. It may not look good but we are only relying on visual date taken from a very murky picture to tell. We should of course keep in mind that, unless a big disaster happens like the seal or BoP riser blows out completely, it may actually take several weeks or more before we find out how well it works. That is because again, any kind of leaking will lead to this being deemed a total failure, just like with the insertion tubes. So most sources wont be reliable in determining how well this works.

And while Tony Hayward is indeed a complete tool, the same of course cannot be said of BP engineers and other workers. They are looking to make truly landmark accomplishments in undersea mechanics, working to improve methods that have not worked before in these situation, i.e. during Ixtoc when many of the same methods they were trying also failed to stop it.

Regardless of their course of action I applaud their tenacity in attacking this problem. I’m glued to my PC just wondering what will happen next!

“...even a few drops leaking out at a time would be deemed a miserable failure...”
-
According to BP, they only hope to capture 80% of the leaking oil.
They do not want a tight seal at this point,
due to concerns regarding the structural integrity of the well itself.
All of this is a temporary stop-gap measure
ntil the relief wells are drilled.

Moving the cap toward the well, the cap is visible on the Ocean 2 cam now, and the well is visible on the ROV following the Cap.

And I am becoming convinced they would have been doing a lot better if they were not constantly being controlled by our ever expanding gov’t who has no experience in this situation directing them all the time, and a scrutinizing public expecting to snap their fingers and get the results they want. I wonder if the latter issue is why BP was moving so fast from one plan to another, abandoning top kill so quickly then immediately stopping with the saw when it jammed and then frantically trying to smooth it now. It does seem they have to not just get it done, but get it done *right now* to appease the public. I actually feel at this point that if something really bad does happen once the seal is put on, part of the blame will fall on people who demand instant results and try to force these workers to give it to them.

These could become the next “Reality Show” type success for broadcasters. I can see Rachael Madcow calling for one well head a season to be hit by a submarine and the repair of the mess televised nationally on the Cap and Trade Network.

To her it would have the advantage of creating a green disaster to promote more government regulation and she could finally have some ratings.

Well that means there is a 100 % chance ti will be deemed a failure once it happens. That means you cannot find out what is going on from any news outlet about how well they are doing. This is setting new records for the amount of misinformation being brought out to the public from all sides.

I’m wondering who’s the genius that let all those hoses hang down all over the place. Cripes, about 25 cents worth of wire ties coulda fixed that!!

And we need prayers from the whole God loving nation those relief wells work. If they don’t work this will be Such an unbelievable field day for our domineering gov’t and socialist green activists.

I’m afraid this whole deal is way beyond redemption for the MSM. Every time a seagull washes up with an oil sheen it’s gonna be headline news 24/7 for months.
