A question for birthers: why Mombassa?
Vanity | Me

Posted on 05/12/2010 8:47:16 AM PDT by curiosity

The origin of modern myths and legends is a side interest of mine, the birther myths among them.

Now I understand why Obama being born in Kenya made it into your belief system, despite it being physically impluasible (requiring around 5 days and five flights, most on propeller planes) and financially impossible (it would have cost about a year of her parents' combined salaries) for Stanley Ann & Obama Sr. to travel there for her to give birth. After all, Obama's Father was from Kenya, so if you are going to make up a myth about Obama being born abroad, what better place than Kenya?

Implausibilty, and even impossiblilty doesn't deter the making of myths if there is a strong emotional reason to believe them, as in this case.

What I don't understand is, of all possible places in Kenya, why make Mombassa the birthplace in your myth? If you look at the map of Kenya, it's on the other end of the country from Obama Sr.'s village, 762 miles away, which would make it a minimum 2 day train ride. Probably longer, since Kenyan trains were very fast in 1961.

I suppose you could argue that there were no hospitals in Obama's village, so they had to travel to a major city. But Nairobi was closer, and more modern.

So why Mombassa? Not only is it completely implausible; I don't see the emotional appeal. Why Mombasssa rather than his father's village? Or why Mombassa rather than Nairobi?

Help me out here, birthers. Why do you reserve this special place for Mombassa in your belief system?

It also gives me some insights into the way crackpots think, which is something I'm interested in.

Obviously, since that is what you are.

Nairobi was on their list of flights and I didn’t look further to see if there was jet service to Nairobi.

The point of the post was they had 707’s before 1960.

So I will go look again, to see if they had jet to Nairobi and I will thank you for going blind. The type sucks on that site.

Could you point me to the link from DOH regarding passport and COLB.

I really don’t care to go back through all these posts.

ST is still around and posting.

I am starting to think that some folks here simply imagine how they want things to be and act as if it is so.

There is no imagination here.

Good news. Pan Am didn’t begin flights to Nairobi until 1965.

...beautiful!

My family came over from europe to Australia in an old troop carrier named the Fair Sea. The modern ocean liners just don’t ‘do it’ for me. Much prefer a cargo ship that carries a small number of passengers.

The Black Star Line ships were registered to the Zim Line, an Israeli Line, Israel apparently helped Ghana to set up the shipping line, no thanks ultimately from Nkrumah, who, not content to ruin the economy of Ghana, also turned against Israel.

No good deed goes unpunished. Go to my Home Page for a summary of events.

Your post #130.

The state of Hawaii says he was born in Hawaii. That is good enough for me as well as any court and any Federal agency. Why does it not satisfy you?

Technically you are quite right because the COLB appears to be sufficient for a court of law. First of all the back of the certificate is stamped with the statement and signature of Dr Alvin T. Onaka PhD. It has been stated the Doctor signed so many certificates he had hand problems. Thus the rubber stamp is the verification used. A rubber stamp would not stand up too well in any court, if challenged. Anyone could pick up a rubber stamp and wield it.

Unfortunately the State of Hawaii appears to have been in a few instances only too kind to issue a COLB. This on the statement in good faith by a person who claimed their offspring was born there. There is the case of Dr Sun Yat-Sen (1866-1925). He had a birth certificate on his statement he was born in Hawaii. He was not born there. I would presume if his enemies were out to kill him, he could avail himself of the US embassy in China. Clever stuff.

The long form, if it exists, awaits posterity, genealogy buffs and last but not least - American public.

Read it and weep!

Not only was "Nairobi Embakasi" capable of servicing jets But....

several Major Airlines had regular jet service to there.

Air India (707), Alitalia (DC-8),East African Airways(Comet 4), BOAC (707 and Comet 4) and South African Airways (707)

The one thing you didn't count on is that there are people that document airliners like trains even noting the registration numbers, aircraft serial numbers and routes throughout an aircraft's career.

It was a sucker bet, had you been paying attention to your own thread you might have noticed that I had already proved you wrong.

East African Airways Jets flew from Nairobi to London with BOAC crews

Here's the link to the article in which the Hawaii DOH spokewoman asserts that the COLB meets all Federal requirements for a birth certificate:

To: bvw; Chief Inspector
Yet Stanley was in Seattle for college classes and Vancouver/Mercer Island to visit only weeks after the Holy Hawaiian birth of the Obama Legend.

To me the only possibility of a birth outside of the United States would be on Canadian soil. I know that chief inspector has done some work there on this subject. A hard task in actual fact, in British Columbia. Only some chance reference might give a clue. I have spent all too many hours on this subject, but much of it has proved educational.

Again as I tried to point out, some historical facts are so incredible, that one can never rule out the Mombassa factor. The President owes the public an absolute and clear statement on the matter.

Uh...those planes in your post aren't jets.

You are silly. Jets did fly into Nariobi, but the point is that Boeing 377 Stratocruiser was a workhorse in the fifties that flew worldwide. It had a range of about 4,200 miles. It doesn't matter if the Obamas flew in on props, turboprops, or jets to get in and out of Kenya.

Even today commercial flight using prop place is still common place.
