A question for birthers: why Mombassa?
Vanity | Me

Posted on 05/12/2010 8:47:16 AM PDT by curiosity

The origin of modern myths and legends is a side interest of mine, the birther myths among them.

Now I understand why Obama being born in Kenya made it into your belief system, despite it being physically impluasible (requiring around 5 days and five flights, most on propeller planes) and financially impossible (it would have cost about a year of her parents' combined salaries) for Stanley Ann & Obama Sr. to travel there for her to give birth. After all, Obama's Father was from Kenya, so if you are going to make up a myth about Obama being born abroad, what better place than Kenya?

Implausibilty, and even impossiblilty doesn't deter the making of myths if there is a strong emotional reason to believe them, as in this case.

What I don't understand is, of all possible places in Kenya, why make Mombassa the birthplace in your myth? If you look at the map of Kenya, it's on the other end of the country from Obama Sr.'s village, 762 miles away, which would make it a minimum 2 day train ride. Probably longer, since Kenyan trains were very fast in 1961.

I suppose you could argue that there were no hospitals in Obama's village, so they had to travel to a major city. But Nairobi was closer, and more modern.

So why Mombassa? Not only is it completely implausible; I don't see the emotional appeal. Why Mombasssa rather than his father's village? Or why Mombassa rather than Nairobi?

Help me out here, birthers. Why do you reserve this special place for Mombassa in your belief system?

Cora Weiss is the wife of New York Lawyer, Peter Weiss, founder of the Institute for Policy Studies and daughter of Samuel Rubin, a funder of many left-wing organizations. Weiss was a director of the Samuel Rubin Foundation from its inception. She was also instrumental in the funding decision to create the Institute for Policy Studies. She gained notoriety as a leader of the Vietnam War era anti-American coalitions who traveled to Paris and Hanoi for repeated meetings with communist leaders.

The Black Star Line was established by Nkrumah after Ghana independence in 1957. There were 14 cargo ships, several carried passengers. Across the Atlantic from the US, through the Suez Canal gets you to Mombasa...

Didn't call at Hawaii, though.

Pan Am acquired at least five 707 in 1958 and there may have been more.(I got tired of reading the small print on the Pan Am historical site)

I am going to have give you a pass on this one, as I have not been able to prove it or disprove it. Others have stated the same but I can' t argue this point without facts. Do you have a link that supports your point?

There's a link to the statement from the Hawaii DOH further up on this thread.

Fine. But it didn't call in either Hawaii or Africa. I'd be very surprised if there was a ship that called at both places.

That's because a "land-crab" like you have such a shallow head (brain) that whatever you are told don't have the brain capacity to absorb it!

I gave you a list of hundreds of shipping lines and probably thousands of vessels that does exactly that!!

Go and get a real life instead of being a masochist thirsting for orgasm!!!

“ST is still around. Just had a message about the weather in OK, as he lives across town from my Mom.”

I never would have guessed he was from Oklahoma. He didn’t speak with an accent here???

BTW, how is the weather there?

We know nothing. That book is...a litany of manipulated facts, dates, names and places.

Wasn’t it Bill Clinton who said ‘that book is a fairytale’?

Right. And of course, Nairobi was such a hot destination, that of course, they would have put one of their few, precious new jets on it! /sarcasm

How did Obama Sr. make his way to Hawaii since it seems such a difficult task in that day and age?

Just curious why it would be difficult for Stanley Ann, but not for Obama Sr. to travel.

Face the facts: if you wanted to fly to Nairobi in 1961, you were flying by prop. plane. Period.

Care to bet on that?

I'll bet you $100 you are wrong

It's a waste of time, but it provides me with comic relief. It also gives me some insights into the way crackpots think, which is something I'm interested in.

No, he posts very well and grammatically correct. Unlike me.

I am in sunny CA in the south bay of SFO and we are enjoying 74 degrees and zip for humidity. Thank God.

I can’t deal with humidity when it is warm.

I suggest you take a hike, Pal.

I've responded to a couple of questions for you on this thread (#77 and #223) and you've just ignored them and gone on to others which I guess you feel are easier to deal with.

So I went on to look at what "curiosity" has has to say on other threads. I looked at two pages worth and didn't see any post on any topic other than us "birthers." (Well, there was one on Green Energy back on April 28.) You say you're an economist or something and I saw nothing about the Federal Reserve or gold or the Greece bailout.

I say you're a fraud.
