Palin angers faithful with choice in California race

Sarah Palin has angered fans by endorsing former Hewlett Packard chief Carly Fiorina instead of a more conservative challenger in her bid to become the Republican candidate aiming to unseat California Senator Barbara Boxer.

Palin, a darling of the right-wing, announced on her Facebook page on Thursday that she was backing Fiorina as she attempts to win the Republican ticket for the election in California later this year.

The 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate said she was supporting Fiorina as a "Commonsense Conservative" on the basis of her "fiscal conservatism rooted in real life experience."

"We can trust Carly to do the right thing for America?s economy and to make the principled decisions she has throughout her professional career," Palin wrote in her endorsement.

However Palin's support has enraged supporters of California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, who view Fiorina as a RINO -- Republican In Name Only -- an epithet used by right-wingers to disparage pro-business candidates who do not always embrace socially conservative stances.

"Sorry, governor Palin, but Chuck DeVore is California's only conservative candidate for senator," one poster wrote.

"I'm very disappointed in you, Sarah. You should know better!!," another posted added.

Yeah, Palin’s endorsements of Michelle Bachmann, Allen West, Doug Hoffman, Combat Veterans For Congress, Adam Kinzinger, Vaughn Ward, Tom Emmer, Sean Duffy, Tim Burns and other conservatives mean nothing.

Her endorsements of McCain and Fiorina mean everything.

You hypocrites make me puke.

Never mind. I don’t why I keep thinking she’s running for governor. Criminy. I think I need to take a nap.

We can’t keep holding people up to an unattainable standard of ideological or practical perfection and then tearing them down when they fail to meet it.

Amen. The sad thing is that almost no one here will listen to your words of wisdom.

Pardon me but I never claimed Palin’s pragmatism and Bush's liberal stance on amnesty were similar actions but they have both provoked criticism here and the response from many of the same defenders of each has been the same...show me where I equated Palin and Bush....I equated the reactions here when each has been critiqued

and as someone banned for over a year during the amnesty squabbles here I will stand by that...criticizing Bush back then was serious business

thank you very much, you missed the point completely and if you had read down a few other posts by me you might have gleaned where I said precisely that Palin was not just another politician.

btw...I and my wife were there a few months ago at the now flooded Opryland for the banquet just to see her, I think I am the last person who needs lecturing on Sarah Palin . I've supported her from jumpstreet but if she does something I don't like I will say it

The same people screaming at her for backing Fiorina would be screaming that she was too afraid to make a tough decision in a crucial Senate primary and thus too afraid to make tough decisions in the Oval Office.

I don't see how you can come to that conclusion. She has only endorsed a handful of races.

♫ I'm a RINO, you're a RINO, we're all RINO RINOs...♪ Really, the term 'RINO' has become so meaningless because people who assume that they are the baseline of a true Republican just toss around 'RINO' as an insult to anyone who disagrees with them. It's getting silly.

Only thing I'd add is that it isn't getting silly, it has long since past silly and become self-destructive.

FOFLOL Oh, what a bunch of pouty, predictable, part-time, faint-hearted lovers.

First you hoist a human being up on a pedestal. Then as soon as one tiny hair falls from the golden head what do you do? Why, you back away in fear and loathing. Shocked and disgusted that your once perfectly pristine object of adoration has independant thoughts. (ahem, isn't that one of the reasons you liked her?) Oh, no! How dare she do such a thing to you! She has betrayed you and is no longer worthy of your dreams. She must be ridiculed and rejected.

For God's sake people, this is politics not spin the bottle. The country is at stake, use your head and your heart will follow.

"Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican." - Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th President of the United States of America

The election is a long way off, Governor Palin may decide that a fickle electorate is unworthy of her. She may decide that her family deserves better than pseudo-supporters capable of turning on a dime.

We have no idea who the nominee will be. I'll support our candidate. I admire Governor Palin very much and if she becomes our candidate she will have my total support. No matter what happens she is an important national figure and it serves no purpose to try to destroy her or weaken her effectiveness just because she occasionally expresses an opinion that some people do not agree with. For the time being, we all still have the privilege of speaking our minds and so does Governor Palin.

If a person can’t pass first grade but is promoted to second grade anyway, how does one expect that person to pass second grade?

Because she is a Bush globalists who was rewarded for off shoring a significant chunk of California’s high tech economy with a huge bonus.

That’s how the globalists work. I’m starting to think that’s how Sarah Palin is getting wealthy too, off globalist money.

A vote for Fiornia is a vote for off shoring, out sourcing, h1-b and illegal immigrant workers.

You’ll vote for her because someone else said she is pro life? Have you any quotes from her that substaniate any of these claims. I think they’re false based on her history of attending global socialist forums and the Bush free traitor doctrine. Have at it.

And like Reagan she is going to do some things that make ideological purists angry. Reagan picked the lib Schweiker (who turned more conservative later under Reagan’s influence) and he even campaigned for Chuck Percy when Phyllis Schlafly was ready to try to take him out in a primary.

The day after Reagan announced his insurgent bid against Gerald Ford in Nov., 1975, liberal IL Senator Chuck Percy said this:

"A Reagan nomination, and the crushing defeat likely to follow, could signal the end of our party as an effective force in American life."
Two years later, Reagan went to Illinois and campaigned hard for Percy, personally vouching for him to conservatives when Percy was in a tough re-election fight against a Dem foreign policy hawk.

Even worse, in early 1976 then San Diego Mayor Pete Wilson went to New Hampshire to campaign for Gerald Ford and called Reagan "the worst Governor in the history of the state". Six years later, Reagan went to the mat for Pete Wilson in his CA Senate race. Reagan understood that Moonbeam Brown could not be allowed anywhere near the Senate. He saw the big picture.

Sarah is channeling him more and more. She understands that Boxer has to go. I trust her as I trusted the Gipper when he upset me (which was more than once). I've never trusted any other politicians in my life.

Sarah McPalin is just like all the rest of the RINO’s in the GOP, Grand Ole Progressives party.

True, but some races are so prominent that anyone with leadership ambitions has to weigh in with an endorsement. This is one of them.

“I’ve supported her from jumpstreet but if she does something I don’t like I will say it”

So have I. When you say some of her followers are engaged in a cult of personality, that is a shot both at her and at her supporters. Especially in the case of these two endorsements, which have logical not emotional underpinnings, with which you happen to disagree. It is hardly a cult of personality to disagree with your logic, flawed as it is.

BTW, Criticize her all you want. Praise her all you want. The one does not cancel out the other. If you cast a slur like “cult of personality” our way, I am going to call you on it. You can’t back it up. Did you read it on the Frum forum or hear it on CNN?

I support her. Period. paragraph. Just like I did with Reagan when the Richard Vigueries tried to blow him up over precisely this kind of nonsense. In so doing they gave aid and comfort to the GOP Establishment and to the Dems, who had the same objective, but for different reasons. Is that what you want to do?

Have Romney, Pawlenty or Thune weighed in on this race? Just asking because I don't know if they have. I know Huck has endorsed DeVore. Some conservative senators (Inhofe, Coburn) have endorsed Fiorina. Not sure about DeMint.

"This pretty much seals her fate as a presidential candidate. I won't vote for her now-that's for sure."

I wasn't aware that she was running. When did she announce that? So because you won't vote for her that "seals her fate". What arrogance!

Al,
That was well spoken. While many to most of the people attacking her are trolls and Romney bots, some are conservatives like Viguerie, who don’t realize (or don’t care) that they are giving aid and comfort to the enemy. They prefer to go over the cliff with a Devore than to go to the White House with a Palin.
