Born Again
Why the "birther" myth refuses to die.

By Christopher Beam

Barack Obama.

President Barack ObamaThe "birther" myth is the political equivalent of a horror-movie villain: Not only does it refuse to die, but every time someone tries to kill it, it only comes back stronger.

The latest incarnation: a bill approved 31-22 by the Arizona House of Representatives on Monday that would require 2012 presidential candidates to offer proof of citizenship in order to qualify for the ballot. The proposal has little chance of becoming law. For that to happen, the state Senate would have to pass it and the governor would have to sign it. But it's still the closest birtherism has come to being codified.

Democrats have dutifully condemned the bill. One Phoenix legislator said it's turning Arizona into "the laughing stock of the nation." White House spokesman Bill Burton dismissed the measure and others like it on CNN as "fringe right-wing radio conspiracy theories." Steve Benen of the Washington Monthly wrote, "The fact that fringe lunacy is being taken seriously at this level suggests a strain of contemporary Republican thought that's gone stark raving mad." Even some Republicans are rushing to distance themselves from the bill, particularly senatorial candidate J. D. Hayworth, whom John McCain has tried to tie to the fringiest elements of the Tea Party movement....

You said, “I have no idea how I managed to turn half of my post red. Not my intent.”

I don’t think it was the intent of half of the country to turn the entire country red either.

Sh!t happens I guess...

What idiot believes this stuff ???

Or the myth that scientists (those noble creatures) would have the audacity to manipulate earth temperature data and blacklist from the peer-reviewed journals anybody who correctly questioned their methodology.

What kind of moron would believe our beloved system could ever allow that kind of corruption, just to bilk the common people out of a lot of money and redistribute the world wealth?

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Whenever we accept the doctrine that a human institution is infallible we are setting ourselves up to allow the ultimate corruption. That’s why this nation’s founders knew that the separation of powers, the checks and balances, and the supreme rule of the Constitution were vital elements to our survival.

Obama is walking roughshod over it all, while most of the politicians either applaud or watch with their finger up their nose. The people are waking up, but once the system of accountability is gone it’s too late for us to hold anybody accountable. We are dangerously close to that point.

Dear Butter, its gotten so bad that the first lady, bless her heart, has stated Obama’s home country is Kenya. Where in the world does she get this crap from?

Someone needs to sit this poor woman down and explain to her that America is his home country. Not Kenya. It's just a myth.

Like they sat down Obama’s step-grandma and corrected her statement that Obama was born in Kenya.

These silly women. Gullible to the point of believing the Kenyan-born myth...

It’s a good thing our society knows we can’t trust the testimony of a woman...

Whatever Obama pulls out has to match a very narrow set of clues that the HDOH has already given regarding what’s on the BC and what supporting documents he has, as well as when the documents came into existence.

You're operating under the (false) assumption that he needs to meet the standards of the average American.

He has taken over the car companies, the banks, and is in the process of taking over the insurance companies and Wall Street. Does that sound like the average American? Would the average American chose the name Obama? He did.

He could provide the type of documentation you are asking for, and he probably has that at the ready too, but I predict that what he will present will be a forgery, and purposely not a very good one. It will be just enough so that his supporters will claim victory, and the 'birthers' will cry foul.

And just like with his odd name, and mispronounced words, he will enjoy the entire scene he has created.

As soon as he became a serious Presidential possibility, the FBI, under the orders of a Republican President, would have checked out the original birth documents to ensure a legal candidacy. If there was evidence that he was not a natural born citizen, the Republican White House would have been on Obama like a pitbull on a pork chop. ..... Polybius

And yet Roger Calero, who OPENLY AND PROVABLY wasn't a natural-born U.S. citizen ("Notable: Nicaraguan Native" -- information provided by the candidate), managed to get on the ballot (Socialist Workers' Party) in some states. His candidacy wasn't legal and yet it was "allowed" in these states. How does this mesh with your theory about BO? ..... thecodont

"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding." ....... United States Constitution, Article VI, Clause 2.

Federal law trumps State law under the Supremacy Clause. A State can "allow" a Black Lab to be on the ballot ......

His Honor, The Mayor of Sunol, California

Bosco the Dog Mayor of Sunol, California: ... In 1981, in an election hatched by locals as a joke, Bosco Ramos ran against two human candidates for the mayoral slot, and beat both. He became known as America's first dog mayor.

..... but that has as much legal meaning under Federal law as two kids pretending to get married in a play wedding.

" Ahhwww! Aren't they cute! Let's take a picture of their 'wedding'."

My theory stated:

"As soon as he became a serious Presidential possibility ...."

Until we get law enforcement to do their jobs, Obama (and anybody who is politically connected) can do whatever they darn well please. Nobody can stop them.

So you’re probably right. And he’ll do that not just on the eligibility issue, but on taking over the auto industry, banking industry, college loan industry, healthcare industry, defense industry, the internet, media...

Oh, wait. He’s already done that on all of those...

We need to make some more laws. So he can disobey those laws with impunity also.

This whole issue is about the rule of law. If conservatives are willing to kiss that good-bye for political expedience, then this nation is history.

You may well be right about that; but what about all college and passport records? Why hide them so carefully? .... JimRed

That all fits in with my theory that Obama is trying to hide the fact that his carefully manipulated public face is a fraud.

The passports may have different names, maybe even the surname of Dunham and not Obama, and his college records may show a less than stellar performance.

As president of the Harvard Law Review and a law professor in Chicago, Senator Barack Obama refined his legal thinking, but left a scant paper trail. His name doesn't appear on any legal scholarship.

The point at which Obama was determined to be the president was when one of Obama’s friends (whether it was Soros or the Saudis who financed Obama’s campaign) made an electronic run on the bank and threatened to destroy the world’s economy unless Obama was allowed to become president.

After that, GWB, McCain, and everybody just rolled over and let Obama march into town unhindered. The Manchurian candidate was in and nobody could do anything about it without jeopardizing - as GWB said it - the entire capitalist system of the free world.

So at the point when Obama was a serious contender.... the free world had already been taken hostage, and neither GWB, McCain, nor anybody in a position to do so were going to shoot at the hostage-taker and kill the country in the process.

I have no proof of the claim I’m making but my gut tells me that’s what happened, based on what I’ve been able to observe. We will never get answers from Washington DC.

Obama’s still calling the shots over Wall Street even when he has zero political capital - because the person who initially took the nation hostage still has a gun. When Obama says that a new crisis will happen if they don’t pass this reform bill, he’s merely stating a fact loud and clear so that Congress knows that the people who caused the first crash will to do it again unless the country willingly gives up capitalism. This is a full-fledged, organized coup.

It could be Soros. My gut-level feeling, though, is that it is the Islamists. And I say that because Obama has been bending America over so the Islamists can screw us and Israel. Shortly after the financial crash the fed began having seminars on Sharia banking. Banking is the way that Islamists have said they will take over the WEstern world without a fight.

It also corresponds to what I read in Scripture about the alliance between false religion and false government, and how financial control will be used to force the entire world to worship the one who sets himself up against Christ. Right now communism and Islam are united against Christ and the freedom that He brought us. Economic blackmail will easily ensnare most people, whose bellies cry for food more than their souls cry for freedom and truth.

I could be wrong. I hope I’m wrong. We’ll see.

“Embarrasing details in his original birth certificate that would tarnish his carefully manicured “Dreams from My Father” public image.

1. Obama was an illegitimate child born out of wedlock. His father, Barack Obama, Sr., was already married in Kenya to Kezia Aoko and the U.S. Government knew that from his visa application. Polygamy is not legal in the U.S. and Obama’s mother is probably listed as “Single” in the original birth certificate.

2. His given name on the original birth certificate was probably “Barry” and not “Barack” and his given surname on the original birth certificate may have been “Dunham” and not Obama.”

3. His sex listed on the original birth certificate is female.

(Proof: Look at any video of him throwing out a first pitch at an MLB game!)

What would have been the point of GWB doing any kind of background check on Obama even if he could have done so? Was he going to come out and say, “Hey, we did this illegal secret search on Obama and found out that he’s been hanging out with terrorists like Bill Ayers and Rashid Kalidi so nobody should elect him”?

By what stretch of the imagination could an investigation concerning the eligibility requirements specifically mandated by the U.S. Constitution be "illegal"?

Having the chief law enforcement officer under the Constitution investigate the legal requirements specifically mandated by the Constitution is as "legal" as anything can possible get.

In regards to "hanging out with terrorists like Bill Ayers and Rashid Kalidi", that is a legally moot point and has absolutely nothing to do with Obama's constitutional eligibility.

There is absolutely nothing in the U.S. Constitution that does not allow U.S. voters to elect the President of the Charles Manson Fan Club to the Oval Office if that is what the American voters want.

The "point" is that, if Barack Obama had been found to be ineligible to be President under the U.S. Constitution, the Director of the FBI would have announced that at a press conference in regards to "questions raised in regards to eligibility under the Constitution". After the results of the investigation were legally confirmed in Court with all the evidence right out there for the entire Planet to see, that would have been the end of that.

Barack Obama would have become just another "What if" footnote in History.

I responded to your statement ”He may be a citizen, he may not be a citizen..” If you meant to say “natural born citizen” that changes the meaning and is a different issue. I’ve been following this for a long time, trying to find what is true and what is not. Many of my posts are trying to keep the facts straight; I don’t think repeating inaccuracies helps anything.

The US State Department states that adoption or using a foreign passport has no effect on US citizenship. If that is incorrect, please cite sources and I’ll gladly acknowledge my error.

Sven Magnussen has advanced an interesting theory, but provides no proof. He wrote

Since Barry was living in Indonesia and planned to live there permanently, he applied to the US Embassy for a Certificate of Loss of Nationality (CLN). Contrary to popular belief, if any American moves out of the country and sets up a household with a military officer of a foreign dictatorship, the US SoS doesn’t make it difficult to renounce your US Citizenship. Proof of Barry’s Indonesian citizenship is in his 2nd grade school record.

This does not accord with what the US State Department has posted.

Parents cannot renounce U.S. citizenship on behalf of their minor children. Before an oath of renunciation will be administered under Section 349(a)(5) of the INA, a person under the age of eighteen must convince a U.S. diplomatic or consular officer that he/she fully understands the nature and consequences of the oath of renunciation, is not subject to duress or undue influence, and is voluntarily seeking to renounce his/her U.S. citizenship.

If I’m reading Sven’s post correctly, he thinks that 0bama renounced citizenship before starting 2nd grade. Hard to believe a consular officer would be convinced that a 7 year old would “fully understand the nature and consequences” of renunciation. I think Sven is misreading the US policy and conflating stepparent with child.

Immigration and Nationality Act which provides for loss of U.S. nationality if an American voluntarily and with the intention of relinquishing U.S. citizenship enters or serves in foreign armed forces engaged in hostilities against the United States or serves in the armed forces of any foreign country as a commissioned or non-commissioned officer.
If Lolo Soetero were an American citizen, he would have lost citizenship. The State Department is very clear that children don’t lose citizenship based on the actions of their parents. The proof Sven Magnussen supplies is the Indonesian school application, which isn’t very persuasive. Lying on a school application is a lot easier than a formal renunciation at the age of 7.

Since this is against US State Department policy, I’d need a lot stronger proof. If you want to make assumptions based on a reasonable desire for evidence, so be it. I always thought conservatives were about refusing to believe in an illusion just because it would make someone feel good. There’s enough bad to say about 0bama that’s fully supported by the facts. Why give the other side ammunition by misstating clear U.S. State Department rules?

Yeah, it's the Republicans that have gone off their rocker. [facepalm]. I live in Phoenix and it really pisses me off when the news on even conservative stations finishes coverage of this bill by saying that Obama was in fact born in the US and has provided his Hawaiian birth certificate.

Now I personally don't know one way or the other, but neither do the news-writers, so why do they feel compelled to act as if they know what happened in an ongoing controversy? They never do that on any other partisan controversial issue.

Dear Butterdezillion,

I remember when Michelle Obama said “For the First Time Im proud of My country...”

Apparently she had no confusion that the USA was her home country. But the poor women then insisted that Kenya is her Husbands home country.

Did she bump her head, or was she on some kind of drugs when she said this? Has she ever been ruled clinically insane? I'm worried about her, and especially the kids. Do they leave her alone with the kids, Swastika and Malaria? Is that why the grandmother takes care of them?

*******

Missing birth doctor and birth hospital names: With each passing day, I am beginning to believe more and more that Obama's Hawaii long form birth certificate lacks a doctor signature and a hospital name, and that is the reason President Obama and his inner circle are desperately fighting to keep the public from examining Obama's Hawaii long form birth certificate.
