The cat found beaten and nailed to a utility pole in rural Henry County, Illinois has died, according to the Dana Miller Veterinary clinic, which was caring for the animal.
A spokesperson said the cat, nicknamed "Dutch" passed away last night.
Dutch was found nailed by one paw to the utility pole near Dutch Bottom road outside the town of Geneseo on Monday.

Busticated?
Perhaps you should start reading your Bible.....
Lev. 24:17-18, Num. 31:25-28, Rev. 16:3
Just a few examples. If God says animals have souls, I'll take HIS word for it....certainly not yours.
And you don't think beating, torturing then nailing a cat to a pole is evil?
I completely agree the level of evil is growing....at an alarming rate as well. With that said, don't you think it would be a good idea to hate ALL forms of evil, and do something about ALL of it?
This status certainly wasn’t bestowed upon plants, and the bible creation account uses the Hebrew term for soul, “nephesh,” over and over about what modern biology refers to as the higher animals. (Insects don’t seem to qualify.) Some aver that this refers to breathing; however, “nephesh” is used also to refer to underwater aquatic creatures.
I like the fact that FR has room for lots of subjects and attracts people who care about the many challenges and questions life presents us with. I believe our limits are self-imposed and one way of freeing ourselves from them is to know people who aren't as limited.
Where was the cause for criticism here or the benefit of it? I don't see it.
I meant your comments were satirically funny. Not picking on them at all.
I can’t imagine how thinking about the monstrosity involved here could lead a sensible person to hold abortion of humans by humans to be any the less evil than it is. Humans, not grizzly bears, nail cats to telephone poles (and if grizzly bears did, we wouldn’t consider them to have moral responsibility like we consider people to have).
I know you weren’t. I guess I was speaking rhetorically about our ‘concerned’ FRiend and posted it to you because you get it. It’s not hard to be appalled by both forms of atrocity. Both are heart breaking and neither one is acceptable.
HIJACKED Thread!
We moderns joke about the Medieval concern about the number of Angels on the head of a pin, but it was part of a larger concern of whether evil in the world was finite or infinite.
It is infinite.
Yet there was a vet who cared for Dutch before he died and tried to save his life.
I really did LOL lololol
The devil, as a deathless being, can generate all the evil that God permits him to for an infinite time.
Without a soul, there is no life. Death means the soul leaves the physical body. Any child can understand. Each animal is unique just as people are.
I agree. If a human can see or read about vicious cruelty to animals and not feel compassion and sorrow, what kind of human is he?
Very well said. Me, too.
Cats are more human than most human beings are and they are the kindest, most loving and loyalest creatures ever to set foot on Earth. - Rodney Dangerfield
Sorry, can't buy that at all. I've known hundreds of kind, loyal and loving dogs. One cat for sure, and MAYBE one other, lived up to your description.
The "for sure" cat belonged to a friend who trained him from a kitten. He was a 20 pound unaltered Tom who kicked ass around the neighborhhod and had the scars to prove it. He also: came when you called him; got up on your lap when you asked; got down from your lap when you asked; never scratched or bit a human; would literally fall off your lap rather than hook you with a claw. The "maybe" cat was one dumped by two queers when they moved out of a rental house - I inherited her. I washed her in the backyard with flea shampoo and a hose. While she yowled to high heaven, no attempt at scratches or bites. And she LEARNED. One whack upside the head and she never bothered my parakeet again.
Unfortunately most cats are worthless. Not deserving of cruelty, just worthless.
Each animal is unique just as people are. - little jeremiah
I heartily agree. Even cats are unique - for cats.
And all the living things in the world deserve the treatment Smokin' Joe suggested. Thanks Smokin' Joe for those perfect words.
Well said, Smokin’ Joe.
And “dominion over” means “guardian, caretaker”. Parents have dominion over their children.
One in need of compassion. :-)
Find this guy before he moves onto humans.
I'm very much a cat person (due to the traits we humans ascribe to them of independence, self-cleaning, quiet for the most part, small size and such) but can still appreciate your viewpoint due to the caveat of ``not deserving of cruelty''. Certainly not everyone will have the same attitudes about the different animals that we choose as pets.
My stance toward dogs is neutral. I've never really cared for them but nailing one to the pole would have definitely outraged me just as much as the incident with Dutch.
I'm glad this didn't devolve into a dog vs. cat thread. Those can become nearly as caustic as the civil war threads! :-)
This thread is not about abortion you tard. You can be both mad at cruelty to animals and abortions, they are not mutually exclusive things.
Priority is a concept, a label created by the human mind. A cat been nailed to a post does not understand this thing which we have labeled priority.
Compassion starts right here, this very moment with any creature.
