As I understand it, stores are only allowed a certain number of sales per year on Mountain House Cans. These prices are about as good as one will ever find.....north of 40% off.

I got 14 cases free. They threw them out at work because the were 40 years old. Still nothing wrong with the stuff. The fools at work thought they were like MRE’s which are quite expensive and don't keep as long.
Good stuff.

If they are kept at colder temps, they last longer. I would try to keep the ones you have as cold as possible, as they are already so old.

I would love to see the sales of emergency supplies since obama took office (Mountain Hose cans, generators etc).
Probably the only sector of the economy performing well.
Buy everything now before the VAT kicks in!

Can someone give me a calculation of how much you would need to store per person? I guess say how much each person would eat in a year?
I have been mulling this around by storing 20+ cans of veggies in my office but not paying a lot of attention to actually getting a stockpile ready. But now I think I NEED to do this. I have had a bad feeling for awhile now...hubby doesn't get it or believe as I do but when the SHTF, he will be glad I did it. We have discussed if we had to, we would move in with his parents who own their own home. We still have a mortgage and I can't see us getting that paid down in the next few years enough to be able to live in it if the bottom arrives soon.
I think I would like to do a 5 year stockpile but I would also like to know what others think....5 years a good plan? What about heat and cooking materials? Thanks for the heads up! I needed this kick in the butt.

The thing about prepping is that once you start, it is no longer a hobby but almost a lifestyle.
Because once you buy water and food, you will see you probably need more.
Then you need to add medical supplies.
Then power supplies.
Then tools.
Then protective equipment (, gloves, respirators etc).
And then more of each.

The web site listed sells 32 ten oz cans of entrees for a one year/one person supply. You can get bags of beans/wheat/rice and such cheaply for filler food. The prices listed are a very good deal.

If I asked you 10 years ago that in a decade we would have Marxists running the country and industries would be nationalized...would you have believed it?
Investments into the proper supplies that have a shelf life of 20-30 years at these prices is a reasonable thing to do...especially if you extrapolate out 20-30 years.
Think about it, you don't have to buy a lot but you should have supplies because sooner or later this train is going to wreck and it isn't the eventual outcome of that train-wreck it is the initial 4-6 weeks that you have to survive.
If everything turns out rosy then you can have a freeze dried dinner buffet and have a good laugh over it.
Given the track record of both parties in this country we will be lucky if everything doesn't come up daises.

With guns and ammunition, you can get the rest.
And they last basically forever.

If you think so.....alot of people think the sam way and so you will simply be fighting it out with them.
Good luck with that plan. (from someone who has plenty of guns and ammo)

I have never heard of Mountain House products. Can you tell me what is in them in the way of food chemicals and seasoning?

Can you do this by shopping locally? I mean do I need to buy in bulk as opposed to a flat of cans? I know this is a stupid question because as I writing it I know the answer to it. My concerns are planning for this and not getting support from my family I will have to do it on my own....I can't count on my in-laws to have done this and my son is in college....he is not going to do it so I will do it for my entire family pretty much. My in laws think if they have food in the freezer they are ok...not thinking that unless you have power, that food is no good!
