Republican National Committee chief of staff Ken McKay has resigned in the wake of a controversy over an expenditure at a risque California nightclub, RNC communications director Doug Heye said Monday.
McKay's resignation comes one week after the Daily Caller Web site reported that the RNC's January expenditure report included nearly $2,000 spent at Voyeur in West Hollywood, a topless nightclub.
RNC officials worked to distance Chairman Michael Steele from the controversy -- insisting that not only was he not in attendance but that he had no knowledge of the reimbursement -- and promised changes in the way that people were reimbursed by the committee.
McKay's resignation appears to be the leading edge of those moves, and an attempt by Steele and the broader RNC to show donors worried about the stability of the committee that changes ares being made. McKay will be replaced by Mike Leavitt, a longtime party operative who had been serving as deputy chief of staff at the committee. Politico first reported the news of McKay's departure.

I think the reason the Republicans went to that particular nightclub was to see its star dancer, Nancy (the plastic surgeons cash cow) Pelosi and her new act entitled “How I Screwed the America People and Never Cracked My Face”.
Just image Pelosi doing a pole dance, or a lapdance. Excuse me - I’m going to hurl, hopefully on the troll Barbara Boxer.
Red Zone: first down, Steele to go.
I am pretty sure that Sheperd Smith referred to it today as place that featured a lesbian act.
I’d like to not lose what I ate today.
Well, it’s what they call in Hollywood, “edgy.” :-))
I agree.
I frequently make a photocopy of my check and donation stub to a Conservative candidate and send it back to the RNC in their post paid envelope with a note; Here’s a copy of the check YOU AIN’T Getting until you stop throwing Constitutional Conservatives under your damn liberal / progressive / “moderate” bus!
Michael Steele, will you please go?
You can go on stilts.
You can go by fish.
You can go in a Crunk-Car if you wish.
Dumping Steele would be a victory but it would be a short term victory. The RNC must be restructured. The root problem is each state gets 3 members on the RNC. Its a joke Vermont and Rhode Island are as well represented on the RNC as Texas and Georgia. Until this problem is fixed the RNC will never represent the grass roots.
I got a fund raising letter in the mail today disguised as an account renewal. The outside was stamped PAST DUE and I couldn’t help but think that it certainly is past due... past due that these clowns are gone.
They aren’t getting another penny from me. I have used magic marker to tell them so on previous requests and said the same when called on the phone looking for money. (the last kid even got snotty with me).
How would you suggest we structure representation— by population or by number of registered Republicans?
Is this for real? I mean, who thought it would be a good idea to go to someplace like this? Reckon they thought nobody would notice?
We are so screwed. With leadership like this we will get 4 more years of Obamalamadingdong.
I don’t know. Just started looking into how the RNC is structured as the complaints (justified in my opinion) are worse than ever. Many, I suspect, don’t know why the RNC is so out of touch (I didn’t). Complaining might force Steele out but from what I see he is a symptom of how RNC members are proportioned. Endlessly complaining about the RNC hurts the conservative cause . Be better to fix what I think is the heart of the problem (3 RNC members from each state).
Perhaps a thread on this subject would help? Kick around some ideas on how the RNC can reflect the views of the majority of Republicans and not be hijacked by RINOS from New England?
Simple! By the number of Republicans in the House by State as a percentage of the total! If a State is freakin Blue with No Pubs, then they get zero representation! Steele was a failed Guper candidate in Maryland, the Pelosi State! he is a Trojan Horse! and a Lame, Blind One at that in the best case!
“Simple! By the number of Republicans in the House by State as a percentage of the total! If a State is freakin Blue with No Pubs, then they get zero representation!”
Hmm. I don’t think that will necessarily prevent RINO control, though— a given State House/Senate might have a 50-50 RNC-DNC split, but that doesn’t really tell us anything about the views of the constituents, let alone those of the potential delegates. Besides, in some cases it’s the states with an extreme Dem majority that need financial and organizational help from the RNC, since they don’t have enough support from in-state organizations. The last thing we want is to shut out an entire state completely, which would be blood in the water for Dem propaganda (”The Republicans don’t care about you” etc) and thoroughly reduce the chances of ever changing the political makeup of that state.
What about a compromise of sorts: let’s say two seats guaranteed to each state, as in the US Senate, but the remaining seats portioned out by registered voters or number of currently-serving GOP representatives?
I loved that book when I was a kid.
“You can go on a Zike-Bike, if you like!”
BS wasn’t the answer to the problems in the old GOP, but times have obviously changed.
Get rid of Steele, and get the damned RINO’s out of the leadership of the GOP. Show us a party worthy of Conservative support.
Do the right thing Ken. And soon. Election season is getting to full swing.
