I got a fund raising letter in the mail today disguised as an account renewal. The outside was stamped PAST DUE and I couldn’t help but think that it certainly is past due... past due that these clowns are gone.
They aren’t getting another penny from me. I have used magic marker to tell them so on previous requests and said the same when called on the phone looking for money. (the last kid even got snotty with me).
Possibly illegal, and CERTAINLY unethical for them to send a FUNDRAISING LETTER disguised as an “account statement” — ESPECIALLY marked “PAST DUE”. That alone would get them a phone call from me ripping the Fundraising Director a new one...
You know, the more I think about it the more it bothers me that they sent you a “demand letter” like that... I was a Fundraising Director for a State Party years back. There is no way I would even THINK of sending out something like that!!! That borders on fraud I would think, but I’m having trouble thinking of where the statutes would be... I know a lot of people who don’t really look at what they’re paying, see a past due notice, and cut a check without thinking twice (mostly older people horrified they may have forgotten to pay something they promised to pay).
I’d hate to be a part of bringing down the RNC (in some ways), but if they’re being that dishonest and unethical well perhaps we just need to clear house and “start over”. It’s clear they have no clue not only HOW to raise money in these times, but now they are resorting to lies to even get the little money they do get in — it’s obvious they know NOTHING, or CARE nothing about WHY the donations are dwindling and have no idea how to get those rolling back in...
