Our first tax increase under Obamacare
3/26/10 | self

My wife informs me that the Company she works for has already announced what will be a significant change to one of the programs they offer employees, and it means that many people's taxes have already gone up, proving what a liar Premier Hussein really is.

Several years ago, the company started offering a type of medical savings account to employees. The employee signs up during the annual enrollment period at year end, and chooses how much that account will be worth, let's say, $2000. As soon as the new year starts, you can begin using that account to pay authorized medical expenses up to the $2000 limit, and a set amount is deducted from your weekly pay to satisfy the account by year end. All expenses have to be medical and you must provide receipts, but you can spend that $2000 in the first 2 months of the year, then pay it back incrementally for the rest of the year.

It's a pretty good deal and is of tremendous help with meeting your deductibles and co-pays on health expenses. I've had some significant health challenges for a while now and every year we pay significant money out of our pocket for medical expenses.

In addition, the money is pre-tax; that is, it is exempt from Federal and State taxes. They do that to encourage people to use it, and enable them to stay current on their medical bills.

Last year we took $3500 and used it all. The top limit for 2010 is $5000, and the wife signed up for that amount this year. That will be five grand that is exempt from taxes and we will use every bit of it this year....and it is the last year we will get that much of a benefit.

She was just notified by the Company, that with the passage of Obamacare, the maximum allowable amount for those accounts starting with the next enrollment period is now $2500, period.

Your story is a discouraging tale; I would encourage anyone who is open to holistic doctoring, to give it a try. I've gotten rid of all but one of my prescriptions, and virtually ALL of my over-the-counters.

I read it last night. I will look for it. Bottom line car insurance to have the ability to drive on public roads and only liability required. It protects others from you. It is required by States which have “police” powers unlike the Feds.

Fed Health insurance mandate required because you are alive. It protects no one from you. It is required by Feds who do not have that enumerated ability. The big differnce is that Congress mandated it. The States might have more ability.

There are three Christian Ministry’s that, are health sharing ministry’s. These kinds of ministry’s are exempt, a way for Christians to go “Amish”, if you will.

A poster from another thread did say that the Smaritan Ministries was a good organization.

You right! Interesting isn’t it that we have state laws that mandate you have at least liability insurance yet we must carry insurance in case someone chooses not to follow the law? Last year my car was rearended. Driver wanted to give me the name of a friend who would fix the damage and just call it good. I called police. They had no insurance, no proof of ownership, no valid driver’s license, no current inspection sticker. They were given multiple citations and allowed to drive away to cause damage to someone else. Seems to me like their car should have been towed away and they should be taken to jail. Only in my dreams!

There is a point I think most people are missing in this auto/health insurance comparison. In every state I know of, you can drive a car without registration, drivers license, or insurance as long as you stay on private property. The state imposes those requirements only on people who navigate the public highways. Driving on public roads is the reason the state is empowered to regulate your driving, not merely the fact that you are driving a motor vehicle.

True but you can get a DUI on private property if the LEO’s see you ... I live up a private property easement road and a neighbor dumped his ATV while drunk. When I called 911 a cop showed up too and cited him ....

Well! To top off an already sucky week, Mrs. BC’s employer has announced that they will be instituting mandatory unpaid furloughs at once.

Everyone is required to take a week off, unpaid, between now and the end of June, and then will be required to take 2 weeks off, unpaid, between July 1st and the end of the year.

The first week will be their “waiting week” and the other two weeks will qualify for unemployment, so that will soften the blow somewhat, but that is how the remainder of the year will be going.

The only bright spot in this, is since my wife works payroll, they have quietly let it be known that during those weeks, employees need to turn in a timesheet coded “FU”, for “Furlough, Unpaid”...

Revelation 13:12 And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

Obamacare is in the lying image and likeness of Obama (hence the nickname), so Congress expects everyone to bend over...

Auto Insurance Mandate is a False Argument - Humans are not autos

That argument is as lame as healthcare being a 'right'. You can own and drive a vehicle on your property with no insurance or registration required. Lots of people do this- farm and plow trucks are examples. Also, where are the hordes of IRS agents that enforce purchasing auto insurance?

I really hope that whoever bumps into me next time I'm walking has health insurance. I'd hate to incur the bill if I get a scrape.
