EMAIL FRIEND | PRINT ARTICLE | 45 COMMENTS | SHARE March 24, 2010 Amish, Muslims to be excused from Obamacare mandate? WordWayze The Senate health care bill just signed contains some exemptions to the "pay-or-play" mandate requiring purchase of Obamacare-approved health insurance or payment of a penalty fine. As Fox News has pointed out, for instance, the Amish are excused from the mandate:
So while most Americans would be required to sign up with insurance companies or government insurance plans, the church would serve as something of an informal insurance plan for the Amish.
Law experts say that kind of exemption withstands scrutiny.
"Here the statute is going to say that people who are conscientiously opposed to paying for health insurance don't have to do it where the conscientious objection arises from religion," said Mark Tushnet a Harvard law professor. "And that's perfectly constitutional."
Apparently, this exemption will apply similarly to believers in Islam, which considers health insurance - and, for that matter, any form of risk insurance - to be haraam (forbidden).

“””””At first blush I said I might consider becoming Amish. Then it occurred to me that Im not quite ready to give up electricity. Guess Ill have to take my chances.”””””””
Plenty of Amish on the fringe that don’t follow the original lifestyle.
Otherwise I might just call myself a muslim.
Then everyone’s gonna “get religion” and opt out for conscientous objector reasons.
We all may have beards and be driving horse drawn buggies with Obamaonomics.
There's got to be a lawsuit in there somewhere.
Allowing Muslims to colonize the west is a risk bigger than we should be required to bear. Moderate Muslims excepted, of course. I know it is only the 80% that make the other 20% look bad.
Now one has to wonder if the Muslim member of the House voted for it? Would voting for health insurance mandates violate his religion?
Off with their heads! No, not the Amish.
Islam is incompatible with freedom.

Yes, good point. The Dems would love to see $10/gal gas.
Well how about Catholics and Protestants being excused from it too?
Discrimination!!!!!
Your comment is interesting. Our car was clobbered in the parking lot at a grocery store by believe it or not an almost blind Muslim in a BMW a number of years ago. We were driving along, and the guy turned for a parking spot, but being almost blind did not see us. Why he was driving is beyond me. His drivers license was expired, and he had NO INSURANCE.
Long story short we were all of a sudden contacted by his non insurance company that told us they would take care of it all with our insurance company. They might as well have told us to forget we ever heard from them, but apparently all was taken care of. Our car was repaired, and we were never appraised of anything else about the situation.
Note: The guy, the Muslim was one of the most outrageous liars I’ve ever encountered in my life. I was glad it all was handled by others or I might have shoved a fist up that ah’s mouth.
Hey! They don't have to go through full body scanners either!
Guess I have to plead some ignorance. Can I just say I’m (whatever) and get a pass? Should be interesting!
If you have any one group exempt, then all should be exempt ...
We have never purchased health insurane because of conscience and will be opting out.
What happens is that you sue the culprit, not the mosque. The culprit will squeal to the mosque quite promptly.
As I have said before, to the gov’t, I am now known as Brother YoderBushwon ;)
No insuirance company is gonna insure mosques because the terrorists keep blowing em up.
At least he wasn’t on his way to the airport, if you know what I mean. LOL.
