Jewish Anger at Obama
The Daily Beast ^ | 03/18/10 | LLoyd Grove

Posted on 03/18/2010 9:12:12 AM PDT by OldDeckHand

A number of powerful American Jewish leaders are upset with the president over escalating tensions between the U.S. and Israel—and may take it out on the Democrats this fall.

When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton addresses some 7,500 delegates to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s Washington policy conference on Monday morning, the moment will be fraught. It’s just possible that Clinton, accustomed to being love-bombed by the powerful pro-Israel lobby’s conventioneers whenever she spoke as New York’s junior senator, will be greeted with chilly silence or, worse, scattered boos—the AIPAC membership’s angry response to the frayed and apparently deteriorating relationship between Israel and the United States.

“Man, I wouldn’t want to be Hillary Clinton going there at this point in time,” says Manhattan billionaire James S. Tisch, chief executive of Loews Corp.—the hotel, insurance and oil exploration conglomerate—and a longtime activist in Jewish causes and philanthropies. “I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets a ‘cold’—a diplomatic sickness.”

The 57-year-old Tisch, a big-money political donor who gives to both Democrats and Republicans and supported John McCain in the 2008 presidential election, is typical of wealthy Jewish supporters of Israel, especially in New York, who are bitterly opposed to President Obama’s Middle East policies and harshly critical of the officials who are carrying them out. Tisch was one of a number of Jewish leaders interviewed by the Daily Beast who were angry at Obama—so much so that they think the issue could affect Jewish donations to Democratic candidates this fall.

Good observations!

I think Nixon did well with the Jewish vote against McGovern in 1972. McGovern is a cupcake compared to Obama.

You got that right. All the Christian forums I frequent (true Christians, not liberals attempting to co-opt the name for political ends) are vehemently supportive of Israel and cheer when Israel takes a strong stand for their own survival and sovereignty. We know what the Bible says about God blessing those who bless Israel and cursing those who curse her, and we take those words at their plain meaning.

Yeah, well then again maybe not - after all, most of them are socialists first. The “Jew” thing falls waaay down the line, after all the eastern mystic, karma, and yin ‘n yang stuff they so readily swallow.

For me, Israel is proof of God’s direct interest and involvement in human affairs. To put it mildly, obama is on the wrong side with Israel and it should be very interesting to watch how things go from here.

America’s Jewish population will continue to drink the Left-of-Center Kool Aid forever. There may be talk, but it will come to nothing.

"I'm not buying it. The majority are secular liberal American Jews and they will sell out Israel before they would ever cut ties with the Democrats. "

Yup. If US/Israeli relations was an important issue to most voting American Jews, they would seen that his Anti Israel views were out there for anyone to see.

'Good Lord, what is up with all those “I hate Israel” comments on that site?"

It's a leftist site, with an occasional moderate contributor, although Lloyd Grove isn't a moderate, he's a a lib, so the fact that he wrote this piece probably angers the hard-core leftists.

Plus, liberals only tolerate Jews when they're marching in lock-step with the Dems. If they think the Jewish vote is going to hurt them come election time, their antisemitic stripes begin to show - hence the comments at the Daily Beast.

No Israel-loving Jew should have EVER voted for him. They must now search their souls. I can’t figure them out for the life of me.

“i’m sorry, but they’re the ones who made the monster.”

I dislike JINOs probably more than you, but to blame Jewish voters for Obama is absurd. If every Jewish voter voted for McCain, Obama would still have won.

We’re .02% of the world’s population, and 2% of the population of the USA; important symbolically perhaps, but numerically, not so much.

“The Jewish vote is second only to the black vote in loyalty to the Dem party. They got what they voted for.”

Jewish Israelis are not at fault for the misdirected, but miniscule numerically, votes of Jewish Americans.

Of course. Israelis can’t vote in our elections.

Much of the Jewish population in the US feels less affinity toward Israel and their religion than they do to the false gods of liberalism.

"I wasn't entirely convinced this latest dust-up with Israel was going to really hurt Obama. But, this conventionally liberal author, from a clearly way left-of-center website seems to think otherwise. "

Lots of leftist Jews are turning on Obama and on the Democrats as well. Take a look at this: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/2474001/posts?page=1#comment

Trust me: the author is a leftist. What she wrote here could have been written by a conservative and, up until recently, probably would have been. Now things are changing.

"You endorsed him... Now take your meds and stfu..."

Do you think that attitude will get Jews to vote Republican? Try and be more constructive. I like: Look, we warned you. This isn't the only thing we're right about...
