Conservative opponents of the Obama administration are urging supporters to resist the upcoming US census, saying it asks too many questions and reflects increasing government intrusion into private matters.
The census, held every 10 years since 1790, is becoming a focal point for the growing anti-government movement in the US.
The government will endeavour to count every person living in the US, regardless of legal, immigration or citizenship status. The count, which helps determine political representation and the distribution of hundreds of billions of dollars in government funds, is mandated by the constitution.
Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, a virulently conservative, anti-Obama Republican from Minnesota, has urged supporters to give only the number of people living in their household, saying nothing more is required by the constitution. Participation in the census is required by law and to refuse, or to falsify information, is punishable by fines that can range from $100 up to $500 (about £60 to £300), although the law is rarely enforced.

In 2000 those who got the long form had to answer 53 questions.
You aren’t boycotting the census if you’re answering the only question they have a right to ask. I just got a notice that I’ll be getting the census form in about a week. I’ll answer what they need to know, nothing about my income or anything like that.
and what has happened to the long forms?
I guess people that are getting them are mistaken about all those pages of inane questions?
I got notice today, too.
Exactly....
Why should they care if you own your house or rent?

I don’t remember filling that one out?
The government has always taken names and ages and the government has always over stepped the authorization in the Constitution by using statutes. And those statues were and still are in conflict with the U.S. Constitution.
But they just keep adding - the the long form comes along - pages after pages of intrusive questions. The census form in 1980 - the long form was unbelievable - a thick booklet.
I once had some Hispanic woman census taker chase me around a condo complex. She cornered me one day and asked my name and I gave her a fake name and said goodbye - left her standing there.
They will get the number of people in my house. That is all. Everything else is none of their business.
LOL Thats a good one.
Maybe I can be AA/Mexican and I can have 16 chidren. I live in a $750,000 home and earn $13,000 per year.
Name, Rank, Serial Number - that’s all they get, and the last two don’t count since I have neither :-)
Yeah, I had the long form census last time. Didn’t fill it out, didn’t answer the door for the census taker. Pfffft!
Evidently not all people got the long form. I sure did.
It would be nice if every actual American (and that’s leaving out Uno Hoo, Uno Hoo, and also Uno Hoo) could report 966 people living at his/er address.
And get away with it, that is.
Asking your race so they can gerrymander your congressional district.
