U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Considering Stepping Down (Update at 119-news to him)

John Roberts, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, is seriously considering stepping down from the nation’s highest court for personal reasons, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

Roberts, known for his conservative judicial philosophy, has served on the Supreme Court since 2005, having been nominated by President George W. Bush after the death of former Chief William Rehnquist.

RadarOnline.com has been told that Roberts, 55, could announce his decision at any time.

The decision paves the way for President Barack Obama to make his second appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court following his first, Sonia Sotomayor.

-- in the extremely unlikely event that Roberts did turn out to be gay, why would it necessitate stepping down? --

It wouldn't. But mindful that the "stepping down" rumor was at a homosexual-oriented website, and that Roberts recently ruled on a homosexual marriage case, and taking the old rumor, I simply speculated that the time was "ripe" for starting an unfounded rumor with the rationale for stepping down being somehow related to being a homo.

-- i live in the DC area and i am a lawyer active in the legal community here, have NEVER heard rumors of Roberts being gay. --

First I heard of it was in the immediate aftermath of this weeks DC homosexual marriage ruling. I don't get out much ;-)

It’s no more over for Constitutionalists than it was for the left when it was rebuffed time after time. Nothing is forever.

That kind of defeatist thinking would have resulted in our losing the American Revolution.

If it happens, I don’t see it as the end. I see it as the beginning of taking our country back.

Geez, why don’t you learn how to post? Good gawd.

“Fox reporting it now” is taken as Fox is reporting Roberts is stepping down. What Fox was actually reporting is that there’s a rumor out there and it’s not true.

Liberal Wishful thinking! Another communist on SCOTUS and the country is fried.

Simple, make up a stellar school record from Columbia or Harvard proving that Van Jones is worth a nomination and quick confirmation to SCOTUS! We need a green communist supreme!

Maybe I should start a vanity “proving” that 0kaka isn’t toilet trained! Hmmmm, that’s not out of the realm of possibility!

"No flames from this direction. You are absolutely correct. One person between freedom and slavery? That is not the Americans I know

Of course it's not an all or nothing, but IMO it is very situational dependent.

If the court was currently, say...6 to 3 or 7 to 2 "conservative" to "liberal", then one person would clearly not be a big factor. Since the current court is generally thought to be 5 to 4, that one person now becomes very important to the point where outcomes are now liable to swing the other direction. 2nd Amendment rights, right to life/abortion cases, property rights (etc) would then be subject to the ideology of the left from the judiciary perspective.

A leftist judiciary, coupled with a leftist Congress and a leftist Executive branch is clearly alarming. Not to mention, a leftist media and leftist education system. At least, as of now, one branch isn't beholden to the socialist/progressive ideology, a branch which isn't subject to elections every 2 to 6 years.

My take on this is that it was some stupid liberal stunt to get rumors going in hopes that if there was anyone who had something that they could twist and make ugly that they would come out of the woodwork with it. It wouldn’t suprise me if one of Obamalamadingdong’s thugs started the rumor. If this health care fiasco passes, there is talk of the constitutionality of it being challenged...what timing.

You got that (unfortunately) right!

"At first glance, I’d assume this has something to do with the (epileptic?) seizure Roberts suffered a few years ago. If true, this is monumentally bad news for the nation. Roberts’ health should have been thoroughly vetted by the Bush people, and Roberts himself should have considered his health outlook carefully before accepting the nomination."

Prior to his nomination, he had had 1 seizure (in 1993). There doesn't appear to have been a diagnosis of epilepsy (or similar) based on that single event that occurred over a decade prior.

Sounds like this was a false rumor. OMG, what a disaster that would be. Obambi would be able to appoint the next Chief Justice. That scares the hell out of me.

If I were Roberts, I’d be three months dead before I’d relinquish my position under this guy.
