Primary Election Day in Texas - Governor Perry, Senator Hutchison and Deborah Medina on Ballot
Drudge Report ^ | March 2, 2010 | steelers6

Posted on 03/02/2010 10:31:46 AM PST by Steelers6

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Voters will finally get their chance Tuesday to weigh in on Texas' long, rough gubernatorial primary.

Both Republican Gov. Rick Perry and rival Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison planned a last round of public appearances in Dallas, with Hutchison stopping at a polling place and Perry, in his official role as governor, participating in a military-related Texas Independence Day celebration.

The two are vying for the GOP gubernatorial nomination along with party activist Debra Medina. Medina is a favorite of many tea party voters and could pull in enough support to force a runoff.

If no one wins a majority of Tuesday's vote, the top two finishers will face off April 13.

Tell everyone you know in Texas go vote. Don't know if I would vote for Perry or Medina if I lived there.

Any takers on turnout and possible runoff?

Already voted Perry. Obvious why any of us wouldn’t vote for KBH. Medina is a paultard truther amateur who is ignorant of how Texas operates, used to be open borders (rhetoric has changed), and has some very anti-localism policies like taking away local taxation funding for schools and give it to Austin.

Why Perry? Frankly, for Texas he is a RINO, but he is more Conservative than most other governors. Pro-life, pro-second amendment, strong on 10th Amendment resolutions, he has done more for border security than the other border governors. He does have some faults (TTC, HPV), however, in both cases, he has shown he is willing to bend to the people. Some call it pandering but I would rather a politician pander when the people make their voices heard about a subject than to stand stubbornly like some dictator.

Texas is in the best shape of all states in the recession. We still have the lowest per capita tax rate (yes, including property taxes) and are running a surplus. Why screw that up?

Voted for Perry already.

Not the best we have ever had, but better than the other choices.

I voted today, took in a hand written list from the North Texas Tea Party. I voted for Perry, Medina lost me when she said on a radio interview she would not say she would stand behind the Republican candidate if it was not her. Well sorry, 3ed party runs got us Bill Clinton and other Democrats. Fools in the Conservative and Libertarian movement often do not understand the way of the world. Its the power of the party not the individual that runs the government process. When you go 3ed party the Democrats win elections and run the government. All government is local, run Tea Party candidates in the Primary’s for all the lower level jobs and start the training camp for real conservatives. You can not take over the conservative movement with a 3ed party you do it with grass roots at the currently party level, Democrat and Republican.

Wait till next budget time and tell me about the surplus, tax rates, etc. Unless Obama comes up with another $12 billion in stimulus like what was used to balance the budget last time. I’m hearing maybe a $17 billion short fall that is going to have to come from some where.

No big ones that I’m aware of. Texas had early voting last week and a lot of polls stop or pull back while the voting is going on. The last one I know if is Rasmussen from back on the 24th.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections2/election_2010/election_2010_governor_elections/texas/election_2010_texas_republican_primary_for_governor

This one has Perry leading 48% to KBH @ 27% and Medina at 16%.

This shows momentum for Perry. Early February, they had him at 44% to KBH @ 29%

Well said !!

IMO,Perry is the only logical choice for Texas at this time.

KBH has been in Washington for 17 years and it shows. Time for her to go back to private life and get a hobby.

I already voted for Perry, too—but it was a bit of a “hold your nose” vote.

Time for her to go back to private life and get a hobby.

That will be culture shock for her- not having a staff of unpaid interns to yell at and carry her purse.

Tell everyone you know in Texas go vote.

I have.

Here's a question for our good Conservative colleagues stuck in liberal states:

Listening to the nearly wall-to-wall political ads on the radio yesterday (WBAP, KSKY and KLIF in the D/FW market), I was stuck by how proudly (and frequently) the term ``Conservative'' was used -- regardless of the office (judges, representatives and governor). Phrases such as ``...a tough Conservative...'', ``...traditional Conservative values...'', ``...strong on Conservative principles...'' were heard in nearly all of them.

1). In blue states, do Republicans also use such terms?

2). And in places like California and Massachusetts, do the Dums sprinkle phrases such as ``...upholding liberal stands...'' in political advertising? Or has the term ``liberal'' rightfully become a badge of dishonor that even the Dums try to avoid?

“but it was a bit of a ‘hold your nose’ vote”

Ditto. Life is about making the best of circumstances, and we often vote for the best candidate on the ballot, not the preferred ideal candidate who did not run (Jerry Patterson, anyone?).

On a side note, what’s the over/under on the number of posts until we get the long anti-Medina spam, mostly in bold. I say by post number 30.

RCP has the avg of the latest polls about

45% -- Perry
29% -- Hutchison
19% -- Medina
with the spread under 20% in favor of Perry.

Turnout may be the most important factor in determining if a runoff will be required. I believe a low turnout favors Perry but a large turnout with a lot of Medina votes may force a runoff. Historially the Gov. primary is under 700,000 votes. In 2006 it was 655,000. Early Voting in the largest 15 counties has produced over 300,000 votes so far. That could well indicate a large turnout. We'll see in a few hours.

Voted Perry today. A good man.

The lone woman election helper at the democratic table was overheard to say “It’s going to be a very lonely day today”.

I’m not sure there is a democrat in my very small town in Texas. Could be....but I’m not sure.

Voting this afternoon. Perry. Easy call. KBH is a free-spender, and Medina is a whackjob.
