Ever since WWII, America has been a dominant force upon the high seas. We have become so advanced in our military technology that the Soviet Union eventually collapsed, in large part because Ronald Reagan would not back down against them. In honor of his accomplishments and great leadership, congress named the worlds largest aircraft carrier after him, the USS Ronald Reagan. Well it has been 22 years since Reagan left office, and while we have been able to hold our status as the worlds most powerful military the world has ever seen, those days could be coming to an end.

Thanks in large part to the anti military sentiment that prevails in Washington, from both sides of the isle, America is losing the war of technical advancement. What you will see in this video is a submarine from Sweden the, NemoSaltadSobrius, that cannot be detected, and even worse it has repeatedly sunk our best and most powerful naval ships in mock war games. Check out this report out of San Diego by Chuck Henry, who reports that America is attempting to figure out how to catch in before our enemies discover the secret of its elusiveness.

Keep in mind that a culture that can produce people willing to turn airliners into flying bombs, can also produce men willing to turn their sub into a giant torpedo. A sub loaded with tons of TNT ramming a carrier would probably sink it.

Good point. The whole sub then becomes one huge torpedo like the planes became missiles. Talk about guided missiles, humanly guided by suicide bomber aka Japan in WWII. It does not take a rogue nation to convince it's soldiers to commit suicide, Japan was a very powerful nation when they felt that was their last option.

It nearly worked. They sunk more ships after they began suicide bombing then they did the whole time before they started. From what I understand, it almost turned the tide. But then again when your best and brightest flayers are dieing on purpose and you cannot replenish the planes or pilots the end is inevitable.

We have other means of detecting them; e.g., satellites and aircraft; hopefully, that would be good enough to ward off an attack.

True, but as I said before. In suicide missions this thing is very scary if it falls into the wrong hands. I am sure Obama would love to see our worst enemy's get one.

I considered, then discarded, many possible remarks. In the end I decided to just read the comments and smile.

What these reports leave out is how coreographed these exercises are. They’re designed specifically to put friendly forces at a disadvantage.

Wow, now that is something I did not know. So in reality we are not at as much of a disadvantage as the whole report eludes to? What about the suicide nuclear hull filled idea as in suicide mission. You do not think it is a possibility that the whole sub could become a nuclear torpedo by getting close enough if undetected? I mean the navy it obviously preparing for any and all scenarios I am sure.

According to one of the control panels in the video, the sub uses a Stirling (cycle) engine. it's an old concept that just might have superior qualities for this application -- IOW, not your typical Diesel-Electric...

As opposed to the Diesel, the Strling is an external combustion engine, and, according to the infamous Wikipedia article linked above,

"The Stirling engine is noted for its high efficiency, quiet operation, and the ease with which it can use almost any heat source."

Read about it. The Stirling doesn't discard its "working fluid volume" with every stroke; only a small, efficient flame is needed. Those Svenska may just be onto something...

If they are operating off of the coast of San Diego then I undestand why they are undetectable. There is ALWAYS a negative gradient off that coast. All sound waves are bent directly to the bottom. Worst sonar conditions on the planet.

A helo has to operate from some platform. Sink the home of the helo, and your air coverage is reduced

Everything has weaknesses. It's a military job to exploit, or defend those holes. A sub that gets a fish into a CVN may well pay, but maybe being a glorious martyr is an adequate trade. These are people that rape little boys for fun. They don't think like humans.

Some differences. Unlike a skyscraper, an aircraft carrier moves. Pretty fast, relatively speaking (30 or so knots at flank). And a nuke carrier can keep going. And going. And going.

So a sub would have to keep up. Only a nuke sub can do that, D/Es can't. And even a sub that can keep up with a CVN that decides to hit the gas makes a real racked at flank speed. Which means that all the helos, CGs, DDGs and SSNs guarding the CVN are going to come after IT. Hunter immediately becomes the hunted.

The only way a D/E sub is going to get into a position to take a shot at a CVN, whether with a torpedo or itself, is if it lies in wait and is lucky enough for the carrier to walk into its firing solution for it. Golden BBs are always possible ...
