Jeri Thompson: Fox's Wallace owes Palin an apology
Politico ^ | 2/5/10 | Ben Smith

Posted on 02/07/2010 1:21:15 PM PST by pissant

Jeri Thompson blasted Fox News host Chris Wallace on the Fred Thompson show today, calling his joke that he hoped Sarah Palin would sit on his lap during an interview with him "inappropriate" and "insipid," and demanding "action from Fox.

Thompson, the wife of the former senator and presidential candidate, told POLITICO's Jonathan Martin that the remark, to Fox Business's Don Imus, amounted to misogyny, and that she was tired of seeing it from "these dirty old men" on Fox, a network that she said ought to be respectful of conservative women.

"Sarah Palin is now part of the Fox family," Thompson said on the show. "She deserves you all watching her back -- and I do not mean it literally."

Wallace, she said, "owes her an apology."

"Not only is she a national figure – she deserves the respect that any other man would get in that situation," Thompson said, saying that her inbox was full of complaints from conservative women over the segment, and that the Palin group Team Sarah, as well as the anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List, were dismayed by the segment.

"I hope that Fox does something about this, and they actually take this on, because it is not funny," Thompson said.

Good post.
It was a, “Gee, isn’t that cute”, moment.

"The problem is that this is becoming a civil war within the conservative movement.

Sadly, we're importing the type of behavior that is more typical of liberals. This is going to destroy us."

Good. I like it when people declare who they are.

Libs have the White House, the Senate, the House, the military and the courts.

Palin’s got a natural constituency with independents, whom we also need for her to win—and the media’s succeeded in casting her as a bimbo. She has to undo that image with them.

Did you actually see the segment or are you relying strictly on what you read?

I am relying on what I read as well as the audio clip at the link. Chris said, "It seemed funny at the time", which indicates to me that even he may be having second thoughts about the wisdom of taking that old fossil Imus's bait. Chris made an (IMO) understandable mistake and should offer an apology one time and be done with it.

Not fair...It was Imus that put him in an uncomfortable position, and granted his cornered answer was an ‘Oh PahLeeese!” moment, but hardly mosre than that. You could see his mind churning to come up with a way to answer the question without being either confrontational or insulting. Instead it came out as a lame attempt to say Palin is an attractive woman.

Jeri Thompson needs to get over herself. Chide him/them yes. Make a sex assault case out of it? How old are you Jerri? 13?

What I saw was on Fox and Friends this morning I think so I apologize if there was another incident regarding Imus and Chris that I wasn't aware of. The two guys were trying to egg on Chris into making a similar statement and Chris was trying to remain professional but ultimately said sure, I'd like to have Sarah sit on my lap. You could tell he was uncomfortable but he was after all in the company of the less professional guys on that show that like to joke around........

I missed the whole statement, but if Chris Wallace did indeed say that on the air, then I do think he owes Sarah an apology. That type of comment only undercuts her as a serious candidate.

Wallace should apologize. Way over the line.

Geez, she's married for heaven's sake!

I Stopped watching O’Reilly when his show became a wall-to-wall forum for women with long blond hair.

(And I’m a woman)

Jeri, Jeri, I love ya, but you are way overracting to this.
Cris Wallace is a very proper gentleman. No offense was meant at all.
I wasn't offended in any way.
Time to chill.

I am going to go out on a limb and suggest that most independents do not think that Gov. Palin is a bimbo. They see her as a good, decent person and an effective leader.

The media can cast her as being a bimbo all it wants but I think that most people who have conservative leanings already think more highly of Gov. Palin than they let on.

"Imus isn't just a misogynist, he's a misanthrope.

He pretty much hates humanity. "

Some people might think a little differently--.

The Imus Ranch is a working cattle ranch of nearly 4,000 acres (16 km²) located in Ribera, New Mexico, 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Santa Fe.[1] It was founded in 1999 by long-time radio personality Don Imus and his wife Deirdre as a charitable organization that seeks to ensure the continuity of the lives of children who are afflicted with cancer or serious blood diseases.[1] The charity’s goal is to provide children ages 10–17 with an experience of living life on a functioning cattle ranch free of charge, to build up the child's self-confidence and sense of accomplishment, in the company of similar children facing serious illness.[

I’m all for people rallying around Sarah and defending her EVERY time someone wants to ridicule her, demean her, or subject her to depersonalization.

If we’re really serious about wanting her to become the leader of the free world, we can’t tolerate jokes like this when it come time for her to deal with public figures like Putin or Chavez or whomever.

I am glad people reacted to this on sarah’s behalf.

yes, she’s beautiful, but she isnt a contestant in a beauty pageant anymore.

Hey at least Chris Wallace isn’t boinking his female staffers like some lech over at CBS admitted to doing a while back.

Unfortunately for Sarah Palin, being a sexy beautiful woman is a double edged sword, it can be one of your many assets and it can also cause some occasional grief and headaches when you are involved in political discourse and the issues of the day.

Of course that might explain why Todd Palin always has that sh*t eatin’ grin on his face all the time too. ;)
