An unexpected feature of this year's gubernatorial race is the revival of certain political notions identified with early American history. Republican candidate Debra Medina in particular has made nullification a major aspect of her campaign, both in her two debates with U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and Gov. Rick Perry and on her Web site, which includes, under the label "Restore Sovereignty," the message that the U.S. Constitution "divides power between the federal and state governments and ultimately reserves final authority for the people themselves. Texas must stop the over reaching federal government and nullify federal mandates in agriculture, energy, education, healthcare, industry, and any other areas D.C. is not granted authority by the Constitution."
She does not specify the mechanism by which nullification would take place, but, obviously, she appears to believe that the legal authority to nullify is unquestionable, making it only a question of political will.

I’m sure there are plans for that already. The “people in the streets” problem is perhaps the easiest for a government to solve.
Much harder is the one where they get voted out, or their party becomes slowly infiltrated by people who hold to the ideals of their enemies.
Also hard is when their political enemies have military power, popular support, and the ability to plan for a conflict and communicate effectively during said conflict. The “popular support” is probably the biggest issue, since the government can see to it that the TV is dark and supermarket empty.
Sorry but he wasn’t the only modern Republican president to raise taxes. It is sacrilegious to even whisper it but Ronald Reagan increased taxes on multiple occasions, especially corporate taxes. But he isn’t remembered for it because of a sound bite like GHWB.

Dude, I live just up the road from that ranch. W brought that just months before the election. And yes, he did move back to Texas after his presidency, BUT notice he moved to Dallas, and not the ranch.
The ranch was for show.
W lost his 1st foray into politics in 19th congressional district in West Texas, and swore “No way will I ever be “out-Texaned or out-Christianed” or “out-good-old-boyed again”
Buying that ranch before the 2000 contest was his way of addressing that issue.
I live smack in the middle of Texas, and have, all my life.My thoughts are the Austin paper is one of the most liberal crap newspapers in the nation. And if us Texans decide to secede, Pelosi’s bunch can pass several hundred more laws against it and we will ignore those, too. And we have enough military and oil refineries here that we have plenty of leverage. This ain’t 1860,and I’d like to see what branch of the keystone cops Eric Holder would send here to enforce Zero’s dictatorship.
Yup, I have two nephews at Ft Hood. Do you really want to know what they’d do if Zero told them to shoot at us? I didn’t think so......
