EARTH-DIRECTED ERUPTION?.....

NASA's STEREO-B spacecraft is tracking four active regions strung across the eastern hemisphere of the sun. Click on the image below to set the scene in motion--and keep an eye on number 4.
The movie shows an eruption of unstable magnetic loops. The blast occured around 0130 UT on February 5th and it appears to have hurled some material in the general direction of Earth. Images from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) are not yet available to evaluate that possibility. Stay tuned for updates in a few hours.

lol. this gives me the opportunity to point out just how ridiculous those ads are with the disclaimer that says, “see a doctor for an erection that lasts longer than four hours.”

No, I’m into astronomy as a hobby, very very limited hobby, and from what I understand, the end of 2009 marked the start of a new solar cycle. The sun went months without a single sunspot in 2009, and now we’ve had 5-6 strong sunspots in the past couple months. The spaceweather website is a good site to visit frequently about any space related headlines, I believe that is where this article is pulled from.

Lots of hype out there on both sides of the aisle. It looks like there is currently more activity on the back side of the sun and that will come over to our side in a few days. So perhaps sun spots will go up shortly. Still below moderate though. The range is roughly like this - (0-25 sunspots very weak)(25-50 sunspots weak)(50-75 sunspots moderate)(75-100 sunspots strong)(100-125 sunspots very strong)(> 125 sunspots peaking strongly). The highest so far for Solar Cycle 24 has been about 43 and it was on December 19th.

The spaceweather website is a good site to visit frequently about any space related headlines, I believe that is where this article is pulled from. They appear however to hype activity a little too much. Probably trying to generate more web page hits. When the sun really gets mean, they wont need to hype it.

So par for the course as far as sunspots go? Elsewhere I’ve been hearing that a weaker than normal sunspot cycle may have had a hand in the ten year hiatus we’ve enjoyed from global warming.

2008-2009 there were months in between a single weak sunspot, blank sun , now there are usually 1-2 sunspots on the earth facing side in the past two months, the beginning of a new solar cycle. A few weeks back I believe there were 3 sunspots on the earth facing side. I don’t know if that’s normal for sunspot activity or not.

Save this
link. Will let you know basically what has been going on with sunspot numbers. For some strange reason however, they never have a daily sunspot number between 1 and 10. The number 11 is the lowest they go besides 0. Think it has something to do with the method they use to count sunspot areas.

Ok smart guys, it's called priapism, and yes it is a medical emergency. If it does not subside, they amputate. Look it up.

Let me aquaint you with Tim Patterson’s work on “global warming” who I believe proved global warming/cooling was mainly due to solar activity.
I summarized an extract findings of his work originally reported lucidly in Canada’s Financial Post in June 07.
Alas, the Financial Post was later taken over by the National Post and who buried the original article and did a re-write which ammounts to a screed against global warming. For it buries the scientific effort he used to arrive at his conclusions . I’m standing by the original reporting
and it is my website; http://www.thesusmat.com/

Oh, I pretty much agree with the sun being the major factor in determining climate. What we have in today's world are many different points of view that approach this subject. We have the AGW true believers who would like to see solar activity stay weak, because they really are worried about a warming planet. Then we have the AGW liars who want to see solar activity become strong so they can disprove the solar earth climate connection. They have been lying about the warming all along (hide the decline) and know it wont show warming when the solar cycle gets active again. Then you have solar scientists types who prefer a weak solar cycle because they are worried about solar flares. Then you have skeptics (the true scientist) who want activity to increase because they believe the world is cooling due to the recent prolonged solar minimum. You can see all these angles play out in the media. That is why the truth is so difficult to discern.
BTW - Your link seems to be having a problem. Will check it out later today.
