Presidential nominee in 2008 faces GOP primary fight.
BY JOSEPH WEBER
Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, said in an interview Monday that his planned primary challenge to Sen. John McCain will portray the four-term incumbent as a not-so-conservative Republican who has "enabled" President Obama and his failed economic and security policies.
"I'm giving Arizona Republicans a clear choice between a consistent, common-sense conservative . . . or someone who describes himself as a maverick but is a moderate," the outspoken Mr. Hayworth told The Washington Times' "America's Morning News" radio show.
Mr. Hayworth, 51, quit his job Friday as a conservative radio host -- a show he has broadcast since losing his congressional seat in 2007 -- and said he is preparing to formally announce his run later this week.
While Mr. McCain has led the opposition to the president's health-care reform, Mr. Hayworth said, the party's 2008 presidential nominee has "enabled" Mr. Obama by supporting the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, first passed under President George W. Bush. And Mr. McCain's opposition to using "enhanced interrogation techniques" on suspected terrorist detainees paved the way for Mr. Obama to order the FBI to expand legal rights and protections to suspected terrorists, Mr. Hayworth said.
"We have to live up to the conduct of the signatories of the Geneva Convention, while our Islamic fascist enemy beheads our soldiers, the ultimate torture," Mr. Hayworth said.

In Arizona, President Bush said: "First of all, in this debate . . . nobody should be given an automatic citizenship. That's called amnesty. But this is a strange definition of amnesty, considering that illegal aliens arent breaking the law by trying to become citizensthey are breaking the law by crossing the border illegally. If you let them stay here, if you pardon them for their crime of entering the country illegally, that's an amnesty.
The president is trying to redefine amnesty because he kno"ws that admitting his plan is an amnesty would doom it. But in fact, Bush wants to add eventual citizenship for illegal immigrants in addition to letting them stay here. This makes his plan more than an amnestycall it an amnesty plus."
Go to it, JD. I’ll be sending in my donation whenever you get ready. One less RINO in the senate sounds great. But without McCain, would Grahamnesty eventually lose that obvious lip-pucker?
I remember when J.D. did the sports for WYFF News here in the upstate of S.C in the early/mid-80s. Great guy and a great conservative.
If someone starts a JD Hayword ping list, please add me to it.
JD Hayworth was an earmark queen.
I would vote McCain over a guy who just wants to line the pockets of his biggest contributers.
Yes McCain has treated conservatives like crap but JD has spent out money like it was his to play with.
McCain's anti-Bush/anti-Rumsfeld venom kicked into overdrive in the run-up to the 2006 midterms. Iraq basically cost us the House and the Senate, and McCain's treachery was a huge part of that. I'll never forget his stupid mug on every Sunday morning show that would have him slamming the administration and legitimizing the leftist attacks.
Of course, that's something only intractable "purists" would care about.
Go JD!
So, make your case with FACTS, links, etc., not your opinion.
You sure as heck didn’t see Hayworth pulling this crappola:
How soon we forget...
McCain wants to spend $300 billion to buy up bad mortgages; Martin Feldstein behind it
By Michelle Malkin October 7, 2008
I cant underscore enough what a rotten idea John McCains ACORN-like government mortgage buy-up is. I said it during my liveblog. And Ill say it again: HE WANTS TO EXPAND THE BAILOUT. He wants to do what ACORN wants to do. Were Screwed 08.
This was his supposed game-changer. This was the very first thing out of his mouth during the debate tonight his big pitch right off the bat. The McCain campaign immediately sent out this fact sheet on the proposal, which will cost at least $300 billion. The proposal involves directing the Treasury Secretary to purchase mortgages directly from homeowners and mortgage servicers. Thats on top of the trillion-dollar crap sandwich
Read that last paragraph again. He would enact this new spending plan using the authorities provided in the stabilization bill the same ones I reported on in my special column for the NYPost today championed by Obamas friends at ACORN.
Its a great idea for everyone who bought overpriced homes with Adjustable Rate Mortgages. Those who rented or bought within their means or locked into fixed-rate loans that they can afford are out of luck, naturally.[snips]

Is there a Hayworth ping thread?
We already know
I keep seeing this stated...what I would like to see is some sources for the statement, and also a comparison of McCain's spending against Hayworth's.
There aren't very many in congress who can rightfully claim the title of "Earmark Virgin" as far as I can tell.
Who would you support (who has any chance at all) besides McCain if you lived in Arizona as I do?
BUMP
That has to be one of the biggest understatements of all time.
“McCain’s anti-Bush/anti-Rumsfeld venom kicked into overdrive in the run-up to the 2006 midterms”
That reminds me of something else about McCain that is just deplorable. Running for president for EIGHT years when he was supposed to be serving in the senate!
In the last 9 years, all McCain did in the senate was go after steroids in baseball, push amnesty, yell at republicans and RUN FOR OFFICE!
He spent most of the time in New Hampshire and Iowa..campaigning. He gets a big fat F for attendance.
