Presidential nominee in 2008 faces GOP primary fight.
BY JOSEPH WEBER
Former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, Arizona Republican, said in an interview Monday that his planned primary challenge to Sen. John McCain will portray the four-term incumbent as a not-so-conservative Republican who has "enabled" President Obama and his failed economic and security policies.
"I'm giving Arizona Republicans a clear choice between a consistent, common-sense conservative . . . or someone who describes himself as a maverick but is a moderate," the outspoken Mr. Hayworth told The Washington Times' "America's Morning News" radio show.
Mr. Hayworth, 51, quit his job Friday as a conservative radio host -- a show he has broadcast since losing his congressional seat in 2007 -- and said he is preparing to formally announce his run later this week.
While Mr. McCain has led the opposition to the president's health-care reform, Mr. Hayworth said, the party's 2008 presidential nominee has "enabled" Mr. Obama by supporting the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, first passed under President George W. Bush. And Mr. McCain's opposition to using "enhanced interrogation techniques" on suspected terrorist detainees paved the way for Mr. Obama to order the FBI to expand legal rights and protections to suspected terrorists, Mr. Hayworth said.
"We have to live up to the conduct of the signatories of the Geneva Convention, while our Islamic fascist enemy beheads our soldiers, the ultimate torture," Mr. Hayworth said.

You mean like when McCain voted to spend our money on TARP?
He has been immersed in politics so long he is incapable of comprehending that there is anything more important, like principles.
Now we just need J.D. to get his formal announcement done with and get a campaign website up so we send him donations. Give until it hurts, because the defeat of John McCain by a conservative rival would be THE best thing to happen to the Republican party in decades.
Don’t think so...

Good point. McCain (along with Specter) stabbed President Bush in the back at every turn. McCain is the most potent weapon that the Democrats have.
Your source for that would be.....?
Okay, what is the downside of J.D. Hayworth? No-one is perfect I want to know about J.D. Hayworth’s weaknesses as well as his strengths.
Here’s a couple of posts to look into. I’ve made no clear conclusions about JD, but he does seem to have a few past conflicts of interest on his TEAM PAC side where his wife made something like $102K of the $538K the PAC took in over 5 years, and some issues related to blocking taxation of Indian tribes connected to Abramoff (see the second link):

I sent a e-mail to Sarah Pack to please not campaign for McCain against JD HAYWORTH!!!
“The defeat of John McCain by a conservative rival would be THE best thing to happen to the Republican party in decades.”
You are so right. Let’s hope it comes to fruition. I know I will send money to J.D.’s campaign to help make this happen.
I remember when JD was a weatherman in Phoenix in the early 90s.
December 13, 2005: JD Hayworth -
“Perhaps most distressing is the message from Republican leaders, like RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, that we need to pass a guest-worker plan because ‘it’s good politics.’ It is never good politics to do the wrong thing for your country, and a guest-worker program is wrong for America. It is based on the same defeatist notion — we can’t stop it so we might as well legalize it — used by proponents of legalizing drugs and prostitution. Legalization hasn’t worked for those vices, and it won’t work for illegal immigration either.”
I hope they’ve come to their senses by now. The fallout from the vote keeps coming down all around us.
An 0bama enabler. Perfect description
McCain was toeing the conservative line until Brown won. Now, he’s pulling the centrist BS again. Please destroy him in the primary. Let him start a “moderate” talk show somewhere.
The problem is not Hayworth but the people of AZ!
“JD Hayworth was an earmark queen. Yes McCain has treated conservatives like crap but JD has spent out money like it was his to play with.”
Says Ellie Light.
J.D. has my vote. I suspect that the N.Y. and California rat transplants will put McQueeg back in though.
