Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin placed a phone call to Sen.-elect Scott Brown Tuesday night to congratulate the Republican on his upset victory in Massachusetts's special Senate election.
"Governor Palin spoke with a very happy Senator-elect Brown this evening and congratulated him on his most historic victory for not only Massachusetts but the nation," Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton told POLITICO.
In an appearance on Fox News after The Associated Press called the election for Brown, Palin hailed the Republican's win as "a step for taking our country back."
"This is a referendum on all those things that President Obama has been standing for," the 2008 vice presidential candidate told Fox's Greta Van Susteren. "It was many different factors all coming together – and thank God for that, I think a lot of the people will say, because this is a step for taking our country back."
Asked by Van Susteren to explain why she did not formally endorse Brown before the election, Palin praised Brown's campaign for relying on "shoe-leather" campaigning instead of national surrogates.
"I would have" endorsed him, she said, "if he had requested it."
In a posting on her Facebook page, Palin added: "Americans cheered for Scott Brown’s underdog campaign because they viewed his candidacy as a vote against the Democrats' health care bill. You know that there's something wrong with this legislation when opposition to it inspired a Republican victory in a state that currently has no Republicans in Congress and last sent a Republican to the Senate nearly 40 years ago."
Despite McCain and Romney raising money for him, Brown kept those two away. Scott Brown wanted to portray himself as an independent voice for the people who will rage against Boston machine. If national Republicans flew to Boston, then it would have distorted his message.
In fact, Michael Steele is claiming the RNC worked behind the scenes, under the media radar to help Brown win.
Next week, expect junk mail from the RNC claiming credit for Brown’s win and then asking for donations.

Yeah the phone interview was great but the connection was terrible. She needs to start using Skype or send in a video message. The connection was really bad at the beginning but then got better as the conversation went on
All I watched of O'Blowhard's interview was a youtube link posted here. I DVR'd the Beck interview, but have not watched it. Is it not a good interview?
Greta had obviously followed the race really closely, and made many great points about why Croakly lost. Greta came out and said Obama and the Washington elites who made the back-door deals lost it for her, and that this race was a repudiation of them. Was that so hard to say? I just thought Sarah was merely agreeing but adding nothing. Yes, it was a crappy connection. I just hope in the future that Sarah has more to say. Hell, Obama is good at saying fuzzy things about hope and change without being specific. I thought Brown made some great points in his speech by alluding to specific problems in the reign of King Hussein (Obamacare, nat'l security, civil rights for terrorists, back-door deals, etc).
I'm just saying that if Sarah is going to add something to Fox News, it needs to be more than vague generalities. I'm not writing her off yet, but I hardly see the phone call tonight as anything to cheer about.
I really hate “moderate”.
These people are not really moderate.
They are actually INDEPENDENTS: Meaning they don’t trust POLITICIANS and PARTIES.
They are the more sensible people. They’ve been counting the mistakes and sins of both Republicans and Democrats.
Their main weakness: “Hope and Change” platform.
Proof: Brown promised A REAL CHANGE. 75% of MA Indies went for him.

Btw, we need to give Brown and Palin credit for not having her come in. Palin is going to find Mass. tough sledding...Brown ran a great campaign and deserves to be Senator.
Romney, likely had some pointers for him in a Mass. statewide race. He’ll collect a few chips with this race.
Sara will do better in the conservtive states and the working class swing states like Indiana and Ohio.

She gave Scott credit for his “shoe-leather” campaign and not calling in big national figures but wanting it to be about local issues and him winning it on his own.
She also paired it with the VA and NJ victories and drew the big picture of the “wicked pivot away from Obama’s policies.”
Leaders see the big picture immediately. Others stay in the weeds and nit pick.
She also said that the Dems “better get over that quick” in answer to Greta’s question about national Dem’s slamming Coakley as a bad candidate. She said that just wastes valuable time that’s better spent going back to the drawing board on healthcare.
Guess we listened to different interviews...

She didn't feel the need to look back at the 'moments' in Brown's campaign, she looked at the big picture in front of us.

Nice try to attempt to make this great night...something it isn’t.
Nit picking. Everyone and their dog has already pointed out these “great moments’, seems a bit trivial to say it so late, and after he won. Besides the message was ‘good candidates’ that run grassroots campaigns can win. That is far more important a message for her as both an analyst and a politician.

No, not really. We are all thrilled with Brown’s victory, and hopefully the end of obamacare.
But going forward, Brown just makes Pawlenty and Romney look pretty pathetic, they are not grassroots, not style, just establishment. Maybe even enthusiasm for Thune will die down (if there was any).
