Those are comforting words, mw.
I have to go out of town shortly, but will be by my TV and a VERY slow internet connection for the election results tonight.
Let's see if The Shot Heard Round The World is born again in the same place tonight! God Bless the Patriots of Massachusetts!

“Capacity or server issues, most likely.”
Earlier Jim Robinson posted:
“One of our servers crashed again. John just got home and to bed a few hours ago from fixing yesterdays crash, now this. Hes worked around it for the time being, but looks like were probably going to have to replace some hardware. Meanwhile, well probably be limping along today. Praying it stays up.
Thank you very much for your support!”

they were there thank God to teach all the old Dixiecrats lessons they needed to learn about conservatism. I may be fuzzy here, but couldn't you at least make the argument that it's the old southern Dems (like Jesse Helms!) coming into the GOP that contributed a lot to forming modern conservatism?
Things do change: parties shift on issues (pre-Roe v. Wade, Dems were the anti-abortion party -- Ted Kennedy, Daschle, Al Gore, all on record!). And voting blocs shift: From the end of the Civil War until FDR, blacks were a solid Republican vote.
I think we're overdue for a major political realignment; I don't know how it will shake out, but I'm hoping for normal people vs. socialist/elitists, whatever the respective parties turn out to be named.

“To get a sense of whether Brown is winning the working-class vote, look no further than early returns from the heavily Democratic Irish Catholic South Shore, where Obama suffered significant drop-offs from John Kerrys vote in 2004. Brown needs to carry the towns of Braintree and Weymouth, two Democratic strongholds that Obama barely held in 2008.”
