WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats are poised to pass a landmark health care bill that could define President Barack Obama's legacy and usher in near-universal medical coverage for the first time in U.S. history.
Ahead lie complex talks with the House to reach final legislation in the new year.
"We stand on the doorstep of history," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat. "We recognize that, but much more importantly, we stand so close to making so many individual lives better."
The vote Thursday on the bill extending health care coverage to some 31 million uninsured Americans brings Obama closer to achieving his top domestic priority. The White House and Congress have now come farther toward the goal of a comprehensive overhaul of the U.S. health care system than any of their predecessors.
But the final step may be the hardest: reconciling the Senate bill with a significantly different version already approved in November by the House of Representatives.

I blame all the people who stayed home or voted third party last November. If anyone thinks this would be as bad under McCain they are delusional. This and does anyone believe here would be terror trials in NYC? Or if he hadn’t won having made it closer wouldn’t have made people think Obama had a mandate.

There is a Senate election on January 19th. Harry Reid's 60 seat majority can be ended by electing Scott Brown in the special election next month in Massachusetts.
If elected, Scott Brown will oppose Obamacare, and take away a filibuster-proof Senate, which will kill the bill.
Ted Kennedy's seat is up for grabs, and the two leading candidates are Democrat Martha Coakley, and Republican Scott Brown. If the name Coakley sounds familiar, perhaps it's because of Ann Coulter's December 9th column entitled "MARTHA COAKLEY: TOO IMMORAL FOR TEDDY KENNEDY'S SEAT". If not, than I ask that you read Annie's aforementioned column.
I know that there are skeptics out there when it comes to Massachusetts Republicans, so all I ask is that you research him. If you feel, as I do, that electing him can stop this assault on our nation, then please support him in any way you can.
The Senate's actions this morning push us closer towards socialism and real tyranny.

If you were thinking right, you knew all along that he would. Lieberman is a Democrat. A Godless Democrat. As with all Democrats, their god[ small g] is power and control of, through that power, better people than themselves. Just as a leopard cannot change his spots, it is impossible for a true Democrat to change.
One silver lining: the rats own this “historic” bill and it will be their demise.
Ironically while the dems think this is going to make them stay in power forever I think they have done more to help the republicans than the republicans ever did. I expect major gains in 2010 and taking the white house, senate and house back in 2012.
Especially the White House once Blago’s trial starts and stuff comes out about Obama. But that won’t compare to what will happen when Patrick Fitzgerald turns his sites on Mayor Daley.

Illinois is coming back as well. Wouldn’t be surprised to see republicans win the governership as well as the senate seat in 2012.
If they don’t make major gains I think they should let Blago out of his charges because every democrat vote is an endorsement of Blago stype politics.
On Obama when Dick Durbin is your most honest close political ally you are a crook.
