[Senate Vote Update: Passed 60 Aye 39 No] Senate Poised to Pass Health Care Reform (Live 7AM)

WASHINGTON -- Senate Democrats are poised to pass a landmark health care bill that could define President Barack Obama's legacy and usher in near-universal medical coverage for the first time in U.S. history.

Ahead lie complex talks with the House to reach final legislation in the new year.

"We stand on the doorstep of history," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat. "We recognize that, but much more importantly, we stand so close to making so many individual lives better."

The vote Thursday on the bill extending health care coverage to some 31 million uninsured Americans brings Obama closer to achieving his top domestic priority. The White House and Congress have now come farther toward the goal of a comprehensive overhaul of the U.S. health care system than any of their predecessors.

But the final step may be the hardest: reconciling the Senate bill with a significantly different version already approved in November by the House of Representatives.

I’m not flying my flag again until we take back our country.

Mine came down 6/12/08 after the SCOTUS decision on habeas corpus for 'enemy combatants.' It now flies ONLY on Memorial Day, 9/11 and 11/11.

From the CNN article (http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/12/24/health.care/) “Medicaid would be significantly expanded under both proposals. The House bill would extend coverage to individuals earning up to 150 percent of the poverty level, or roughly $33,000 for a family of four. The Senate plan ensures coverage to those earning up to 133 percent of the poverty level, or just over $29,000 for a family of four.

Major differences between the more liberal House bill and the more conservative Senate bill will now be the focus of the conference committee that will try to merge them.

One of the biggest divides is over how to pay for the plans. The House package is financed through a combination of a tax surcharge on wealthy Americans and new Medicare spending reductions.

Specifically, individuals with annual incomes over $500,000 — as well as families earning more than $1 million — would face a 5.4 percent income tax surcharge.

The Senate bill also cuts Medicare by roughly $500 billion. But instead of an income tax surcharge on the wealthy, it would impose a 40 percent tax on insurance companies that provide what are called “Cadillac” health plans valued at more than $8,500 for individuals and $23,000 for families.”

There is a slim chance the conference bill will fail to pass the House. I assume the Senate will pass the compromise, since they only need 51 votes. However, the House bill passed by only 2 votes. If some liberals can’t live with no single payer or government option, they could stop it. I wouldn’t bet on it.

There’s also a possibility that the ant-abortion measures in the Senate bill are insufficient for the anti-abortion Democrats, who will then vote against the compromise.

Finally, there’s a chance that some House members, being read the riot act from their constituents, will flip to save their jobs in 2010.

We’ll see!

Has Perry made any statements yet on this fiasco being shoved down our throats?

Hubby is originally from Texas and we still have family there and own a house. If Texas joins Oklahoma in forcing their 10th amendment rights and/or suceeds from the union, we’re moving back.

I’m just not sure how it would work. Hubby’s a Natural Born Texan and I’m not - would I be an illegal alien? Need a green card/visa? (I’m kidding on this)

I do hope Perry joins Oklahoma and the few other states who will fight this Government until the end. With Crist as my Governor, there’s not much of a chance he will do anything or allow the Legislature to make any moves to protect Floridians.

There’s going to be an exodus to Oklahoma and Texas. We’re working out the details of relocating ourselves now.

And a very MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and yours, thank you.

Here’s a Christmas story that we should all read. Be thankful that there were men like George Washington that sacrificed all so that we could live our lives as free men. We cannot allow their struggle and suffering be forgotten.

Liberty or Death......

“Mc Connell was absolutely pissed!”

I don’t believe he is capable of being pissed.

After all, he did let the Senate skate out this morning and screw the country instead of being a real loyal opposition and forcing the vote late into the night on Christmas eve.

On I-95 North in Richmond VA there is a new banner this morning on an overpass in downtown. It reads “SEN. WEBB [hammer and sickle].

(Sorry, I don’t know how to do HTML, but it is the communist symbol—the hammer and sickle—after Webb’s name.)

Look for a story soon on those “mean spirited” republicans and “tea baggers.”

Neither am I. If the flag now represents Marxism, no thanks. I would rather fly the Gadsden or Confederate flag.

why the F**K are they waiting until 2014 to implement it?
____________
Because it’s really not about health care. It’s about taxes, redistribution, fat chunks of OUR money for them to steal. Also they don’t want it to go into effect until 2013-2014 because of the 2012 elections. That tells you how bad the bill is and how much people are going to flip out when and IF it does go into effect. If anyone pays a dime of taxes or any other money assessed by this bill, they deserve to be a boot licker for the rest of their lives. NOW is the time to take a stand.

“Reid says they are standing on the doorstep of history:
I say he is right- this could very well be a trigger that sets this country into another Civil War.”

It should.

But it won’t.

The Socialists have inebriated our citizens with a propagandized education, mind-numbing voyeuristic bread/circus entertainment, and higher learning cathedrals that rival the best that the Politburo could have dreamed of.

It’s pretty much over outside of :

1) a suicidal last ditch stand where Apache’s helos win the day.
2) just living our lives as best we can in a Socialist Tyranny, and letting our faith and God win the day in the end.

Wish I could be cheerier, but I can’t see a way out of this. Even if we win back the House and Senate (dubious at best)...these weasles in the GOP will never reverse this attack on the American people and its Republic.

Fly your flag. It is now the symbol of the Resistance
___________
No, it is not. It is the symbol of agreement with them and submissiveness. It's over, it was a nice ride for over 200 years. Now we join Cuba, Venezuela, etc.
