WASHINGTON (AP) - The number of newly laid off workers filing claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week as the recovery of the nation's battered labor market proceeds in fits and starts.

The Labor Department said Thursday that the number of new jobless claims rose to 480,000 last week, up 7,000 from the previous week. That was a worse performance than the decline to 465,000 that economists had expected.

Oh, oh, oh.... You obviously do not understand.

Any DECLINES in the jobless rate belong to the Obomber.

Any increases; Bush’s fault (even in Spring of 2011!)

Unpossible. The Obama administration has declared the recession to be over, so it’s over.

The govenrment said that the number of people receiving regular benefits rose by 5,000 to 5.19 million for the week ending Dec. 5. That figure does not include millions of people who have used up the regular 26 weeks of benefits typically provided by the state and are now receiving extended benefits for up to 73 additional weeks, paid for by the federal government.

Two years of unemployment benefits....hmmmm. Do you have to DO anything while you're receiving them? Like prove you're looking for a job.

If I may, you must prove that you are looking for a position. So, yes, you have to be trying to better your lot in life’s lottery.

Merry Christmas.

Companies are not hiring and letting people go in preparation for business costs ‘UNEXPECTEDLY’ increasing due to cap-n-trade regulations, health care mandates and the expiring Bush Tax cuts.

Business Survival is more important.

I speak from experience.

It’s mostly based on speculation but I think first quarter 2010 is going to be the worst in many decades.

The economy will strangle as people simply stop spending money they no longer have.

May sound nice, but some people have ran out of their benefits....and of course you don’t get health insurance etc. through it.

Business have to let them go just in case this Congress makes it illegal to fire anyone, which is probably somewhere on the agenda, they just haven’t got around to it yet.
