Free Republic is a fringe right-wing Christian fundamentalist site... or so they say... and they might even be right.
We don't go for any of that godless left-wing big government socialist malarkey. And we do put our faith and trust in God, not government. We are pro-God, pro-Life, pro-Family, pro-Country and pro-Liberty.
We do not believe that government or science knows what's best for us or our children. We will make our own decisions thank you very much.
Every once in a while some group of posters get together and try to bend Free Republic to their will. Now, we tend to be pretty free-wheeling around here and will take a lot of guff and a lot of obnoxious insults from a lot of people, but eventually a breaking point is reached.
For example, when a group of RINO lovers recently banded together to try to force FR to accept an abortionist/gay rights RINO as our presidential candidate, they soon found themselves on the outs.
And a few years ago a group of evolutionists tried to force FR over to their way of thinking and they soon found themselves on the outs.
FR is a pro-God, pro-Creator, pro-Life, pro-Liberty site.
And now we have yet another group of Darwinists trying to have their Darwinist way with us. Well, as I've said before what doesn't kill us will only make us stronger.
Darwin Central has again declared war on FR. They have ping lists and email lists and will try to pull away as many FReepers as they possibly can. So be it. Those who would rather go with Darwin, please go. I sure as hell won't try to stop you.
FR will remain a pro-God, pro-Life, pro-Liberty, pro-Creator conservative site.
We wholeheartedly believe that our unalienable rights are a gift from God our Creator not from man or government. And no man, no government will ever deprive us of same.
Keep your powder dry.
The falsehood is that Biblical literalists and Protestant fundamentalists believe that science and faith are intrinsically opposed to each other and can never, ever be reconciled.
It would be well said if it were true. But for a lie, it's not well said.
Thanks, good site with scripture scholars. I like better doing the study work myself though, just like I prefer doing-not-watching with sports too.
--but thanks more for giving me another excuse for going over the first few verses again. I can see the 6,000 years, but to explain it to a layman I'd have to quote Einstein and Hawkings to make it understandable.
......It would be well said if it were true.....
except for the host on FRee Republic for whom it seems definitely to be true
I am questioning the use of science to ‘disprove’ the Bible.
IF you allow for scince to say that evolution is the ‘way God Created man’, then I say you should sleep easy with the idea that scince disproves the Risen Saviour. One can not have it both ways.
UnBingo, I say that Faith trumps scince, where science conflicts.
Show me a Bible literalist who demands that the entire Bible be read word for word literally with no regard or recognition of poetry, songs, parable, etc.

The same for those who *fear* science and think that science and faith can never, ever be reconciled.

Now, more reflective spirits have long been aware that there is no either-or here. We cannot say: creation or evolution, inasmuch as these two things respond to two different realities. The story of the dust of the earth and the breath of God, which we just heard, does not in fact explain how human persons come to be but rather what they are. It explains their inmost origin and casts light on the project that they are. And, vice versa, the theory of evolution seeks to understand and describe biological developments. But in so doing it cannot explain where the "project" of human persons comes from, nor their inner origin, nor their particular nature. To that extent we are faced here with two complementary -- rather than mutually exclusive -- realities.
- Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI)
With all due respect to the Cardinal.....evolution is not Creation. The definitions do not equate, merge, blend assimilate nor are they compatible. He says much to say that he doesn’t know. But, IF one has the audacity to say “The Book says.....” well, that can’t be right, because science says......”. You may Apologize all you wish. I do not, will not; I will stand with what it says.
And Natural, you have yet to answer when your Lemur-like ancestors evolved their immortal souls.
Would you also proclaim an openly gay Cardinal as being evidence that all that stuff about homosexuality is just ‘allegory’? Apologetics...more like appeasers to the world.
At the moment in the process God selected one and called him ADAM and endowed him with a soul, reason, and conscience.
No apologies needed or offered.
The host on Free Republic believes that God is the Creator of all life. The same Creator that gave us Life gave us Liberty and no man, no government will ever take Him or it from us. I don’t question why or how He did it. I just accept the fact that He did. God is central to our lives, to our freedom, to our past and future, to our very existence. God, prayer, creation, religion, etc, will always be welcome on the pages of FR. Those who can’t live with that are free to go elsewhere. It’s their right.
And the Holy Spirit of God hovered over the Lemurs, until they bred and changed, finally, in the earliest recorded ‘Chicken-or-the-egg’, Adam emerged, kinda cramped, from the Lemurs womb, and God saw that it was Good. Hey Adam, here’s a soul for ya. Female and child Lemurs hardest hit.
That is an impossible premise, and a poorly veiled insult of the Catholic clergy. Cardinals are in Communion with the Saints and have taken a vow of chastity and celibacy. To quote you; "One can not have it both ways."
Thanks. Yes - I let him get off easy w/that one.
But if you only knew the word I wanted to use. ;)
You think too much of yourself and too little of the Holy Spirit.
No it is not impossible, there are some sects that openly endorse them, to be ‘inclusive’.
Maybe that part (homosexuality is a sin) is just allegory too. You know, since we evolved, and animals are considered ‘normal’ to have same-sex (especially among males), since we are just the same as them, why is that so bad? Science tells me chimps (our ancestors?) do that, as well as kill competeing males babies. Maybe that is OK too?
Hey, there seems to be alot of freedom here to do ‘natural’ things now that it seems we evolved from lower animals.
Yes, I have to say I am a little surprised by seeing open mocking of the Holy Spirit. Surprised, and unhappy.
I mock your position that man is not Created, or even worse, that we are merely the descendants of lower, soul-less animals.
And you mock Creation, as well as the account in Genesis.
