A study found that the bones of women who drink beer regularly are stronger, making them less likely to suffer from osteoporosis.
It is thought that the high level of silicon in beer slows down the thinning that leads to fractures and boosts the formation of new bone, the journal Nutrition reports.
Beer is also rich in phytoestrogens, plant versions of oestrogen, which keep bones healthy.
Bones are made up of a mesh of fibres, minerals, blood vessels and marrow, and healthy ones are denser with smaller spaces between the different parts.
The researchers asked almost 1,700 healthy women with an average age of 48 about their drinking habits. They then underwent ultrasound scans of their hands, which showed the bones belonging to beer drinkers to be denser.

Balderdash|If this was true I know several people who would be large piles of flesh laying on the floor.
I guess my bones are safe!!!!!
Beer - It does a body good.
Without reading the article I still contend their study is a tad flawed.
I wish I liked beer!
DANG!!!!!
Other than an occasional glass of wine (that is changing now that I learned how to make it) beer is about the alcoholic beverage I consume.
I will probably consume copious amounts of it this afternoon while dealing with the getting the kid ready for tomorrow’s first day of middle school.
Beer ping
Guinness is good for you.
Black and Tans all around!
Let us all thank God for His wisdom.
Some days, I have wondered why He created osteoporosis.
Then I read something like this, in which He has provided the cure for His malady, and my faith is restored.
Ben Franklin was right ... beer is indeed proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
If it’s a question of taste, might I recommend a beginner beer? Michelob Ultra is not very beery. Neither is Rolling Rock. (That’s what I prescribe for starter drinkers who want something mild and palatable to play quarters with.)
Some days, I have wondered why He created osteoporosis.
So that I can watch Sally Field's commercials for Boniva.
Leftist nut she may be, but she's hot for an old broad.
You and me both, my man! Cheers! Days off rule.
Truth be told, Sally is looking VERY good these days. I’m 40, so I figure Sally has to be mid to late 50s. Go her!
Born in 1946.. that makes her.. uh.. 63?
And like a hammer....
Me, too. I'm strengthening my bones!
I didn't have the day off, but it's 8:30 at night. It's civilized and all.
{Clink!}
Hooray for synchronicity!
Cheers!
Dang...I wish you had a webcam. (I've gots one.) We could clink beers through the screen.
Oh, wait....I just washed my hair and I look like a drowned rat.
And the medicine goes down so easily.
I guess I'll have to have beer daily so my bones will stay nice and strong.
In the interim, the Shiner brewery is my brauerei of choice. Their "Family Reunion" six pack contains six different brews, and I'm able to taste the German influence in them.
My preference for German beer was developed during my four year tour in Germany.
