President Obama and the US Secretary of State fuelled a fierce American backlash against Britain, claiming Abdelbaset Al Megrahi should have been forced to serve out his jail sentence in Scotland – but a senior Whitehall aide said their reaction was ‘disingenuous’.
British officials claim Mr Obama and Mrs Clinton were kept informed at all stages of discussions concerning Megrahi’s return.
The officials say the Americans spoke out because they were taken aback by the row over Megrahi’s release, not because they did not know it was about to happen.
‘The US was kept fully in touch about everything that was going on with regard to Britain’s discussions with Libya in recent years and about Megrahi,’ said the Whitehall aide.
‘We would never do anything about Lockerbie without discussing it with the US. It is disingenuous of them to act as though Megrahi’s return was out of the blue.

Me either. Oboma has done everything in his power to support and free his Muslim brothers. It's almost as if he's trying to finish the job his Muslim brothers failed to do on 9/11. Everything he's done supports the enemies of the U.S. rather than the other way around.

There might be an element of revenge in this. London was pretty ticked off when Bambi’s boys dumped all those gitmo detainees in the Bahamas without telling HMG.
They might yet come up with a stronger case, IF the US administration continues to wring its hands and point fingers.
We already knew this from MacAskill himself. This has always been the big story that the MSM never focussed on. Obama was in on the deal. He made a weak protest the day of the release. The fix was in and Obama was part of it. The US could have gone public as soon as the plans were known and blown it out of the water. Instead Obama remained silent.
Just as importantly, they wouldn’t have wanted to do something like this if Bush/Rice were in post.
Because he was a Libyan government agent who was carrying out the government's orders. In order to get people to go on these dangerous missions in the future, you must make every effort to get those who get caught back. It is done all of the time. We have done it numerous times exchaning their spies for out spies. In this case, Libya had some economic benefits to offer in exchange for their agent.
