Colorado: Parents win against Obama Propaganda. Here is how they FORCED a student Opt-out 4 9/8/09

Posted on 09/03/2009 7:51:53 AM PDT by steve0

The purpose of this thread is to secure a commitment from each local Principal to provide an opt-out so that no one is forced to endure Obama's subtle, presumptuous speech. Below, I will provide a sample of reasonable letters we want the Principal to sign. If refused, we know where they stand and will take the appropriate action against them. Here is an article of how they roll in Colorado. http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/09/douglas_county_school_allows_p.php It would be useful if the only comments on this thread are how to do this, report your results and contact information for the press to report and follow-up on.

Sure they did. The only difference is that they didn’t have the internet back then.

Do you really believe that Reagan wouldn’t have used the internet like it is today if he had it back then.

“On November 14, 1988, Reagan addressed and took questions from students from four area middle schools in the Old Executive Office Building. According to press secretary Marvin Fitzwater, the speech was broadcast live and rebroadcast by C-Span, and Instructional Television Network fed the program “t o schools nationwide on three different days.”

Here is the e-mail response from my school district in southeast Texas:

/Parents,
President Obama will address students across the nation on Sept 8th at 11:00am. TISD staff plans to record the speech, if technology allows. We will determine its appropriateness for use during a social studies lesson at each age group. If deemed appropriate parents will be notified as to its use in the social studies classroom./

Sounds reasonable.

We are blessed with a small, rural community school where many parents are very involved.

My son finished the year at Miami of Ohio. He enrolled at Lehigh U. the following year. Got his degree from Lehigh.
Sadly, he watched Lehigh become increasingly PC during his tenure there.

I’m a Penn State grad. I’ve watched the school go down the PC road beginning in the 70s. Last year, the Marxist profs tried to muzzle military vet students who confronted them in their classes. Being vets, they were older students who were not so easily propagandized. Somebody got hold of a memo that was circulating amonth the leftist faculty and the school administration discussing ways to marginalize the vet students. It actually found its way into PA and NJ newspapers—as well as Free Republic.

I was a journalism major at PSU. Upon graduation, 1965, I went on active duty. I got out as a captain in 1970 and went to work writing for business mags in NYC. Returned to PSU for homecoming in 1975 or 76. Visited the journalism school and bumped into the dean. He was a British follow. He asked what I had been doing since graduation. I told him I had served in the Army. He told me to fuck myself and walked away.

I haven’t donated any money to the school for years.

Thanks for this important historical perspective! I’m going to print this out and take it with me to the school board meeting next Tuesday. My daughter’s district is already “on notice,” shall we say, that parents are paying attention and are NOT happy about propagandizing. This will help spike the guns of anyone who attempts to defend the “paid political advertising.”

There are few schools that are making this mandatory -in AZ and Fla.

Someone posted about the Hatch Amendment. I am not familiar with it but it appears it could be a basis for a letter for those having a problem with opt outs.

I don’t really care about that, actually. Those children had parental permission. This was an attempt at an end run around both the school boards and the parents.

Also, neither of them had the unmitigated arrogance to think that they were so important that they warranted extra study time devoted to themselves.

He’s president, not god, not king. I’m not going to have my children reading the sycophantic drivel about Obama that the “Department of Education” thinks is so wonderful.

“And you would have felt the same way if Bush or REagan wanted to speak to your kids?”

Yes — if they had been communists and believed that utilizing children as tools to further their un-American goals was a good idea.

How do you know that all of those students who were watching that on televsion in their schools had their parents permission.
You are making an awful lot of assumptions because it was a President that was a Republican.

You didn’t even know that Reagan sent his address out to MANY schools just like Obama is trying to do. He did the same thing as Obama..just without the internet.

You don’t know if any instructional activitiy was sent out. Have you located what was sent out at the time?

You are just guessing.

That is your right as their parent. You should have the choice not to have your kids subjected to that...but then don’t complain when Democrats get all up in arms when a Republican President speaks Republican Propoganda to students.

You have your political views.
They have theirs.

I wish I had been there to tell that POS prf he was free to curse you BECAUSE of people like you.

What % would you say are people who would truly like our country to turn marxist? I am frankly surprised so many seem to support obama’s ideas

“my daughter’s study sheet for science class had, at my count, three grammatical errors that changed the meaning of the questions she was being asked”

When I’m watching cop shows on TV, and the bad guy screams, “I didn’t do nothin’!”, I wonder why the cops don’t take arrest him on the spot. Being a double negative, it’s basically a confession.

“I use to say that I went to school during the dark ages of the 50’s and 60’s but I now believe I went to school during the best time of all.”

Ditto that. Graduated in ‘66 from a rural NY school. The Regents exams twice each year were brutal, but we learned.

“We will determine its appropriateness for use during a social studies lesson at each age group.”

Not good enough. PARENTS already know they don’t want their kids to be subjected to the brainwashing. The school district doesn’t need to “determine” anything.

True. My political views coincide with the Constitution and Founding Fathers’ views. Their political views are stridently un-American. Big difference.

For starters, I assume that none of the 47% of the people who voted against The Messiah want to be commies.

That leaves the alleged 53% of people who voted for Onada. In this group I would expect a hard core commie group of about 15%. The rest of the demrat voters are either indifferent or have no real clue what communism means. The only thing they really believe in is their right to other people’s money. Anybody who promises them that will get their vote.

I think this is right,”The rest of the demrat voters are either indifferent”
and they may be the scary ones since they are easily swayed.
But I also think the 15% hard core dem/ commies would have succeeded if we, the people , didn’t stand up
and keep on standing.

I am proud there are so many of us.

I called my kids’ (I have 3 of ‘em) elementary school principal today. She said the kids in 4th grade and under are not being shown the speech at all, and the 5th graders who have government as part of thier curriculum will be taking permission notes home to be signed by thier parents if they wish to watch the speech. If they elect not to watch, they’ll be given other work to do. She was really cool about the whole thing, (she’s a moderate and there are only a few teachers there who are liberals) which helps to confirm that my kids’ school is NOT being overrun by marxists. I think it also helps that we live in a politically conservative area. Thanks for posting the article!

Great Tune, but I think Roger would do a 360 on this tune when it has to do with the “LongLegMacDaddy”. Roger Waters played at Ego’s convention and litered the streets with his Pig.
