The purpose of this thread is to secure a commitment from each local Principal to provide an opt-out so that no one is forced to endure Obama's subtle, presumptuous speech. Below, I will provide a sample of reasonable letters we want the Principal to sign. If refused, we know where they stand and will take the appropriate action against them. Here is an article of how they roll in Colorado. http://blogs.westword.com/latestword/2009/09/douglas_county_school_allows_p.php It would be useful if the only comments on this thread are how to do this, report your results and contact information for the press to report and follow-up on.

My sister has been traveling with our 85-year-old mother and her sister. When this topic is discussed on the car radio, they continue to make connections with what was going on with Hitler. It’s quite terrifying.
That is an interesting conundrum...
I honestly think you are on to something, and how far reaching this is actually going to be...
All because the President decided to put the children in between us and “them” now...
This has to be an unexpected boost for the president in these cases...
Divide and conquer...
Saul would be proud of his padawan learner...
My kids will be asking the teacher....
1. Why didn’t obama tell us how much that we and our children are going to owe in taxes to balance his bloated budget?
2. Why didn’t Obama tell us how Social Security will be insolvent and either we will have to pay more or give it up for our future retirement?
3. Why didn’t Obama tell us that Freedom isn’t Free and that by taking options off the table in interrogating captured terrorists we may not know when or where the next 911 type attack will be until many more Americans are dead?
4. Why didn’t Obama tell us what he meant when he said the cambridge Police acted STUPIDLY. If he believes that should we all be wary about the police?
5. Why didn’t Obama tell us what his goals in Afghanistan are?
6. Why didn’t Obama ever use the words Freedom and Liberty are these concepts that are foreign to him?
President Obama will address schoolchildren on Tuesday, September 8. That day will be a regularly scheduled instruction day in the Arlington ISD. The district will make the speech available in the future as an instructional resource as deemed appropriate to the district's curriculum. Students and parents will also be able to access the speech through a link on the district's Web site.
I called the Superintendent this morning to voice my opinion.
We are black and my son’s teachers are white liberals. What will they say about us?

High school history teacher here, and of course a conservative to boot. No Obama video in my classroom and if any of my co-workers were to show this I would probably give them such a hard time they would give up trying to put on this dog and pony show.
Teachers may engage students in short readings.Teachers may post in large print around the classroom notable quotes excerpted from President Obamas speeches on education.
Teachers might ask students to think alone, compare ideas with a partner, or share their thoughts with the class. Teachers could ask students to think about the following:
What are our interpretations of these excerpts?
Based on these excerpts, what can we infer that the president believes is important in order to be educationally successful?
Create a concept web. Teachers may ask students to think of the following:
Why does President Obama want to speak with us today?
How will he inspire us?
How will he challenge us?
What might he say?
Do you remember any other historic moments when the president spoke to the nation?
What was the impact?
After brainstorming answers to these questions, students could create a cause& effect graphic organizer.
Good idea we all need to email Rush to ask him to do counter-programming. How about he reads the constitution over the airwaves?
Heck Rush could read anything over the airwaves and I’d rather listen to that.
His email is elrushbo@eibnet.com
And you would have felt the same way if Bush or REagan wanted to speak to your kids?
Only reason I bring it up is it would give the principal an excuse to ignore your letter.
It's a fine, hard-hitting letter and should make the principal shake in his boots.
The only sound you will hear is their little overworked synapses exploding. The result of presenting a groupthink liberal with a (to them) irreconcilable contradiction.
Thanks for the link SueRae.
It will be hard for the administration to totally ignore the letter since it was read on the local news channel radio station this afternoon.
Funny thing though, my daughter's study sheet for science class had, at my count, three grammatical errors that changed the meaning of the questions she was being asked. Something that Principal should be proud of...
They ought to run it by somebody if they're not sure, especially word problems.
I read and write for a living, so the little spell-check button in my head gets an awful lot of use and it's stuck permanently in the "ON" position.
Good on ya for getting that letter read on the radio. That will make the principal shake so hard his teeth will fall out.
LOL !
