'Birther' coverage hits fever pitch

While Dobbs says he believes that Obama was born in the United States, he's also pushed for more proof — just to assuage the doubters, he says. He has discussed the birther question frequently on his radio show, which CNN does not control. He has covered the question much less often on his CNN show, reporting on it five times since mid-July.

During the same time period, the birther issue has come up on 29 individual MSNBC shows between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. alone.

John Reiss, executive producer for "Hardball" and executive producer for MSNBC political programming, acknowledged the potential problem in giving too much coverage to conspiracy theories. But he said it was appropriate for Chris Matthews to spend so much time trying to shoot down the rumors.

Reiss said the birther issue has become "part of the American conversation." He pointed to the viral video of a birther woman shouting at Rep. Mike Castle (R-Del.) during a Delaware town hall and at a recent Daily Kos/ Research2000 poll in which 58 percent of Republicans expressed doubts over whether Obama was born in the United States.

November 2010 Senator and Representative elections:

1. If a lot of Democratic Senator and Representative candidates quietly tell President Obama that they don't think it would be a good idea that he campaign for them, then you will know that the birther movement has done some fever pitch damage to Obama politically.

2. Also, if a lot of Democatic Senator and Representative candidates lose in November 2010, then, again, we will see how effective the fever pitch birther movement has been in 2010.

To say the very least, the following documents must be subpoenaed:

1-) Obama’s original long form birth certificate;

2-) the COLB advertised for Obama which appears to be a forgery;

3-) Obama’s Occidental College transcripts and school records (where he may have enrolled as an Indonesian foreign student by the name of Barry Soetoro);

4-) the passport Obama used to enter Pakistan in 1981 (I’m sure that it wasn’t with an American passport).

It is time for you to show some courage and demand that Obama allow you to release his Occidental and Columbia college records.

1. You must tell Obama that enough is enough.

2. You must tell Obama that students, college officials, and alumni are tired of Obama hiding behind privacy laws in order to keep the public from seeing his college records.

3. Tell Obama that you are tired of being asked over and over why you won't release Obama's college records, and you are tired of being ridiculed by the public because you won't release Obama's college records.

4. Tell Obama that this Obama college record issue cannot go on indefinitely.

5. And if Obama won't work with Occidental and Columbia officials to find a face-saving and easy way to release his records to the public, then tell Obama that you will order your lawyers to search for a legal loophole that will let Occidental and Columbia to release Obama's college records.

6. Tell Obama that your mission is to educate students. It is NOT to protect Obama and his records forever from the public's eyes.

7. Finally, tell Obama that he is the President of the United States for goodness sake, and he should stand up and be a man and not hide behind privacy laws governing the actions of Occidental and Columbia. Enough is Enough.
