WASHINGTON — Democrats have pushed sweeping health care legislation through a key congressional committee, clearing the way for a September showdown on President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.
The 31-28 vote Friday came after majority Democrats on the Energy and Commerce Committee agreed to a last-minute series of changes including limiting how much health insurance companies can raise premiums.
The changes were made to placate liberal Democrats — who rebelled after a deal was struck earlier in the week with conservative Democrats.
Energy and Commerce was the last of three House committees to act on the health bill. The vote came on the last day of the House's session before its annual summer recess, sending Democrats home with some momentum on health care.

WASHINGTON (AP) — After a bruising struggle, Democrats pushed sweeping health care legislation to the brink of passage in a key congressional committee on Friday, clearing the way for a September showdown in the House on President Barack Obama's top domestic priority.
As part of a last-minute series of changes, the Energy and Commerce Committee agreed to limit increases in the cost of insurance sold under the bill, and also to give the federal government authority to negotiate directly with drug companies for lower prices under Medicare.
The new provisions were part of an intensive effort Democrats have made in recent days to satisfy the conflicting demands of liberals and conservatives on the panel. "We have agreed we need to pull together," said Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., the committee chairman.
The measure is designed to extend health insurance to millions who now lack it, at the same time it strives to slow the growth in medical costs nationwid.

They create the Health Care Bill as their grand plan for humanity, then after much deliberation and protest the bill is whittled down to a fraction of the original bill, it will then be passed as a bipartisan bill.
Fast forward slightly in time. That will be when the incrementalization will begin.
Bit by bit there will be, by manufactured so called "necessity" incremental changes made to the bill until, over the years the final product will be........TADA!!!!!!
We will have the original intended draft of the bill in all of it's glory .....or even something much much worse.
Sadly, The so called Blue Dogs and moderate Republicans will probably be suckered into this time honored Democrat strategy.
Therefore this thing has to be stopped and buried right now!!!!

Rarely do Republicans roll back social programs so as not to anger those that are dependent upon them. But you may be right, in that this is so unpopular. But it would be an all out fight with the media and Democrats.

I had forgotten about Waxman when I said that. I was wrong.
No they are on the way to confiscate 100% of the “aged-out” eliminated’s legacies. This way they can fund their own plans and get the prosthetic spinal surgery they have always avoided.

I just listened to Rick Santorum on Fox news. He was asked if he thought that the congress critters would be getting a lot of flak from their constituents. Santorum said something we all should keep in mind...
He said a lot of the congress guys were NOT scheduling any meetings with constituents, town halls, anything like that, for this very fear. He checked Arlen Specter’s schedule and saw NO public meetings scheduled for the duration of the recess.
Now this might be the norm but Santorum thought that the congress guys would go out of their way to avoid public confrontations and when you think about it, it’s exactly the kind of cowardly thing they’d do.
So all this talk about “hearing from constituents” might turn out a dud.
What HAS to be done are two things...first, the pubbies, dear lord get them out of the tanning booths cause they got to be all the hell over the place lambasting this thing. Give them a pep talk that a misplaced head hair never killed anyone.
Second, the constiuents might need to go TO the congress critter. Arrange “mass meetings” at the critter’s offices. My rep has THREE offices here in Delaware, I’m sure it’s like that across the fruited plains.
Point being it won’t do to sit out here in la-la land and wait for the mythical public meetings to bring the truth to these guys.
After all, who would willingly and knowingly walk into a ring of fire?
I’m not much of a praying man but I am earnestly praying this government take over of health care fails. I don’t have to tell anyone here this...but if the government gets control of health care, then it’s over. They will control our very existence.
I can just see a mandatory questionnaire as ordered by the health czar to be given to every patient during every routine examination.
Question 1: Do you own any firearms? If yes, see question 2.
Question 2: If you answered yes to question 1, have you had a mental health exam in the past year?
If you answered no to question 2, please inform your doctor immediately. A mental health exam will be scheduled for you.
